Just curious on what you guys think if the Pats could get Vernon Gholston in the 1st round and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the second round? Do you think Croms will be gone before then? If so, would you use are early 3rd to move up?

Your thoughts?

If I was going to move up for a CB it would be Cason, not Rodgers-Cromartie.

I can see that scenario happening. Gholston first then move up for a cb in round 2. But, I think Rodgers-Cromartie will be gone by the time we would be able to move up. I even have our trading partner in mind. Baltimore. Baltimore doesn't have a 3rd rounder. And, if they take M.Ryan in the first. They would probably be better with 2 picks instead of one. Points come out almost exact. Their pick will be 38th. Our two will be 63 and 68. As long as we beat the Giants:) I have these 7 db's going in round 1 right now; M.Jenkins,A.Talib,K.Phillips,L.McKelvin,R.Smith,A.Cason and Cromartie.

There are still some good cb prospects on the board though.
P. Lee - Auburn
B.Flowers - Va Tech
C.Godfrey - Iowa
T.Porter - Indiana Supposedly not a good tackler. Probably not our type.
T.Thomas - USC

I would even take another cb in Round 3. Could push for our nickel back. I'm guessing someone will offer R.Gay more than he is worth. We have M.Richardson coming back and maybe C.Scott. Maybe a guy like one of these;
T.Williams - USF
C.Jackson - LSU
J.King - PSU
D.Tribble - BC

Yeah, no need to move up with such a deep group of CBs. Most are seniors which is a plus. Experience is something BB apparently likes. If BB wants a CB, or even DB, he can get a good one without losing value in the process.

7 is too many I think. 1 or 2 will drop out of the first....but it wont be DRC, he is continuing to rise and I think he is the 3-4th CB taken(around 24).

We might be better off using our 2nd and early 3rd on the two best CBs available, rather trading our early third to snag a possibly better CB early in the second round. Of course, it depends on how things play out.

count Flowers out..kid has some questions to answer about recent drug thing. Tribble no thanks. King is very raw but could be a beast

Very deep draft at CB we can sit Pat...the guy or guys we Draft will likely be competing for Nickel Back playing time in 2008 anyway.

Good idea to move up. Get quality over quantity. Would try same thing

with our third round pick to move up a little.

I'd rather use our late 3rd and/or fourth to move up if necessary.

I disagree. At #63 and #69 we could get two players like Godfrey and Lowery, or Ezra Butler and Lowery. Any way I look at it, I think we'd be better off with the two players at 63 and 69 than we would be with any player around the low fourties that we trade up for (Cason, Talib?).

The only way we use those two picks to move up is if a Derick Harvey type slips into the middle of the second. Or if we trade our first down and add more picks from which to deal.

I can see 7 DB's going in the first round easily. Once the run starts, panic sets in and before you know it 5 are off the baord.

I can see using one of our 3rds to move up in case someone like C Long is available. But I can't see using both 3rds to move into the second round.

PS: Isn't the third round where BB usually takes huge gambles? Except for Hobbs, has BB ever had a third round pick pan out?

BB's third round picks:

J.R. Redmond
Brock Williams
Guss Scott
Ellis Hobbs
Nick Kaczur
David Thomas

So, 2 starters out of 6 picks. One of those picks (David Thomas) could still develop, and their most recent picks in the third (Hobbs, Kaczur, and Thomas) have been their best, so maybe they've improved in this area of the draft?

That's still not a good overall record in the third round though.

I had so much hope for J.R. Redmond and Guss Scott...

I think he'll be gone before thne, but if not, that'd be great for you guys.

Pats need to come away with 4 picks in the first 3 rounds. So I don’t see patriots trading up. But if they trade down in the first round, then they could be picking early in the 2. round. The way I see it, pats need to come away with player at these positions with their first 4 picks in the first 3 rounds.

1 CB who can start or at least play nickel i his first year
1 CB who can play nickel or dime in his first year and who is a solid open field tackler, so he can play on special teams
1 MLB, who can compete for the 2 down MLB spot (A. Thomas will play the 3 down MLB spot)
1 WR with deep speed, who can compete with Chad Jackson for Stallwoths role in the offence.

One scenario is that pats trade a 3. round pick to the cowboys for Bobby Carpenter and use him inside as the 2 down MLB with A. Thomas.
