"...here are the American Football Conference champions, the New England Patriots!" - Pat Summerall, Super Bowl XXXVI

Gives me chills every time.

I hope the Giants have the balls to be introduced individually like it used to be done. I'm sick of teams copping the Patriots style!

Antonio Pierce will probably beg to be introduced.

Pretty much every team does it that way for the big games now, don't they?

I remember that as an absolutely striking moment for me as a Patriots fan, and I agree about the chills.

It's amazing it was ever done any other way.

Yup. I remember the following SB between the Bucs and Raiders, both teams got introduced together instead of individually. The Patriots made their mark before they even officially won their first Lombardi trophy.

I was at that SB and Me and my father were talking about leading up to the announcement. and when they did we nuts about as nuts as we did all game until it was over (we really went nuts when it was over).

At that moment I was as confident as I had been all week.

Such a great memory.

FWIW, my understanding is that the NFL liked it so much that they've forced it upon teams ever since.

botown,

do you have a video of that entrance for SB 36? I've been looking for it on youtube but couldn't find it.

I'd be surprised if this were true--do you have a source? Seems to me the league would like the chance to showcase their "stars."

I do think the Pats doing it made it virtually impossible for a team to get to introduced individually without seeming like a bunch of egotistical jerks.

Same here, still get chills, again last night as a matter of fact...

I think of that everytime I see Ray Lewis do his spastic dance when introduced.......it's about team you moron.......

I watched the replay of SB XXXVI last night on NFL network with my son, I was describing what happened before it did, and then when it came on, and we watched it together, I again got goose bumps. What a great moment.

Its funny because growing up, my friends and I would always talk about what this player or that player will do when their introduced at the super bowl or what we would do if we were do if we were introduced. I love how the Pats ripped that away from any other future kids discussions. Its great! No team will dare be viewed as "individuals" again.

Although, I could see the Ravens doing this. thats way Ray Lewis wants to be in a bowl so he can do that dance

that was one of the most amazing moments in sports history.. let alone... Ill never forget....

Heard today that the Patriots were going to be introduced individually, but something got screwed up at the last minute so while they were all standing in the tunnel, somebody said screw it! we're coming out as team!! And a tradition was born.

The story I always heard was that the Pats wanted to be introduced as a team, but the NFL tried to force them to come out individually. The Pats basically said, "We're coming out as a team whether you like it or not."

It could be a completely false story, but I like it better.

no, i was my understanding at the time is that they had been doing that all season, since a win against Miami. After that win, they just kept doing it. And yes that is my favorite patriot moment . . .

I heard that too and also, the NFL threatened to fine them . . .

I read that when the Super Bowl producers approached Belichick about the pre-game introductions, Belichick said that the Patriots wanted to be introduced as a team and not individually, as they had done all that season. The producers replied that they had introduce the players individually. Belichick responded with something like "I don't know about what you have to do, but we are all coming out as a team." And they did.

I'm sure this is archived somewhere, as I have read about it a number of times.

Actually, it started in Cincinnatti at the first game of the season. The Cinci PA announcer screwed up the intros, the team was pissed, and they said the hell with it, let's go out as a team.

I remember reading an interview with Bobby Hamilton about it.

This is correct. I was at that game :)

They lost though :(
