Rice will always be the best. Randy needs to realize that. This is sure to attract some trolls.

"It was Jerry Rice," he said with emphasis on "was." He then claimed to be the "greatest receiver to ever lace 'em up."

Why will Jerry Rice ALWAYS be the best ??? One thing Jerry Rice will always be, part of history. Randy's having the best year of his career and by all accounts, it will continue. He's already come out and stated he wants to retire a Patriot, that's the best chance he'll have to become the best the game has ever seen.

I bet if Marvin Harison said that, nobody would get on his back.

I would definitely like to read this article I couldn’t see him saying that

Moss has more yards/reception, more yards/game, more TDs/game.

A strong case can be made for him.

Moss is the best receiver ever. If he had played with Brady the last 7 years nobody would even debate it. If he signs a contract with the Pats and plays until he's 36 (6 more years), he'll break Rice's TD record and probably win another title or 2. Game over.

I think this title is misleading.

In any case, I'm not sure anyone necessarily worked harder to perfect his craft than Jerry Rice, but I'll tell you one thing, I honestly believe Moss is probably the most naturally gifted, freakishly talented receiver to play the game. Rice was great without a doubt, but he didn't make it look so incredibly easy.

I'd be really, really happy if he proved it in a Superbowl.....

It all depends what your criteria are.

I would argue that Moss's play this season is the most spectacular ever seen by a WR. Rice never had a season filled with so many astonishing TDs as Moss did this year.

Rice was certainly a much more consistent player with a long history.

So really, all depends what you judge as being "better"... consistent, very high level of play, or a peak that's simply out of this world.

I personally like rewarding extremes over consistency, so I would say Moss is the best receiver of all time.

the questions was in there with about 300 questions...one being just as ridiculous as the next. Moss was just playing it up for the media. Look at the entire video of the Q&A and you will see it was just a fun time had by all (sorry, no link)

To the OP...as a Pats fan how could you only take out a piece of what Moss said, cmon man. Its one thing if haters do it, but dont add onto it. What Moss said was he's studied all receivers and no receiver has gotten the coverage and attention that he has gotten, so he's the only that can say that. He then went on to say that things like the TD record and his place in history aren't important to him.

Also, lets not act like Moss isnt worthy of being compared to Rice, he's great enough of a WR to say he feels he's the greatest without it being controversial.

He also said he plans to show what he's all about this Sunday. He's primed for the spotlight.

Moss might be the most-talented, but he is not the best. That's the homer in you talking. I think you need to go back and watch some NFL Films highlights.

Rice had 2 HOF Qbs throwing him passes. Moss is better. You need to put history in context.

So because I am a Pats fan, I should condone this. And what piece did I take out, that was all that was posted on the Hashmarks blog.

I'm as big a Moss fan as there is (now), but the guy needs to back away from these types of questions. This is the second time he's said something about Rice that can be percieved as a diss. Makes him look even worse in the eyes of non-Patriot fans.

I think it's a personal shot at Rice. Remember Rice made those comments about Moss "it's a slap in the face, but that's Randy Moss." They don't like each other.

You are wrong. Moss is the best receiver ever. Look at the numbers this guy put up with bums throwing to him. Rice had Montana and Young. Puhleaze.
