So true although Brady was slow in seeing him over there too. You can never get over plays which would have won you a SB (very likely in that case) but if we win this week it will be a lot easier to move on from last year - it will never be forgotten though. It's a shame too because Caldwell had a pretty decent season overall.

in a game of making plays when it counts....Caldwell's drop is certainly in the top 10.

i would put it at Number....um.....One. the most unpatriot-like play i have EVER witnessed in a pressure situation. i think BB thought the same...and CUT HIM.

I have to agree with this. I wasn't psyched that he dropped that ball, but it was failure on a couple of different fronts. But think about the beauty in that loss: the Pats were one drive away from the Super Bowl - IN A REBUILDING YEAR.

Though losing doesn't feel good, it's amazing to think of it in that perspective.

He's talking about the other drop on the right sideline when the Colts had no-one at all covering him. The problem was it was so wide open, Caldwell and Brady weren't exactly sure what to do - even Belichick hadn't prepared them for the "what to do when no-one's covering you defense".

It was a team failure. I don't want to go over it again as such, but I'll just leave it at that. One guy, one drop is not the problem. One guy, one catch is not the success. It's actually a team sport and the team collapsed that day while the Colts played an outstanding game.

Since we are rehashing this old issue, a couple of things:

1.) Caldwell isn't the reason the Pats lost that game, the Pats inability to stop Dallas Clark was far more the reason. Images of Eric Alexander getting torched by Clark haunt me more than Caldwell's drops. If the Pats defense didn't collapse in the second half, Caldwell's drops would have been irrelevant.

2.) Caldwell wasn't cut because of his drops. His lack of special teams playing did. He lost his spot to Kelly Washington because Washington plays special teams and pretty much has played special teams exclusively. If we didn't get one of Moss, Stallworth, or Welker during the offseason, odds were fairly good that Caldwell would have made the final 53 man roster.

I agree. Football is the ultimate team sport and Caldwell had little responsibility in the Pats giving up a 15 point halftime lead or allowing the Colts to score 32 points in the second half. There was plenty of blame to go around in that game.

I agree with that. With a Super Bowl win, the strategy would definitely had changed especially since people feel that Adalius Thomas was signed specifically because Dallas Clark torched us so bad.

Which one? How about the one where Kelvin Hayden mauled him and no call was made? Also, as others have pointed out, Brady was late getting Caldwell the ball and there was a defender on his way and would have easily stopped Caldwell from getting to the goal line.

If you believe that Caldwell was the reason for the Pats losing the game last year, you are a bandwagoner who knows nothing about the game.
