Terrible news...

That's terrible.

I had no idea that he had family overseas.

My condolences.

That is horrible. I just don't get it. I wish they'd all just come home.

So sorry to hear that, God Bless you, Bob.

Wow. Like denverpatsfan, I didn't know he had a son stationed overseas. Really awful to hear that his son died.

That is awful news.

Quite frankly, I don't know how military families go about their lives normally. Watching Bob over the last few years, you'd think a crack or two would show.

Hideous horrible news. So sorry to Bob and the entire Ryan family.

Respects and condolences to the Ryan family.

RIP

Sad to read that...sincere condolences to Mr. Ryan and his family.

Really terrible news indeed.

I'm embarassed to admit that one of my early thoughts on this was that I was bummed that we would likely not get to read Bob Ryan on the Super Bowl. I guess that's a function of how wrapped up I am in this game, the fact that the Globe and Herald have so few solid columnists and how much I enjoyed Ryan's columns after SBs 36, 38 and 39.

And that reaction of course obscures the horrible reality facing the Ryan family. I can't imagine losing a child.

Me either. I haven't seen this anywhere else yet, maybe the reporter should have held off on the news for a bit.

Very classy...

I'm sorry...I was not trying to say anything negative (or unclassy). I was just saying that I wished our soldiers could come back home from Afghanistan and Iraq. It was not a political statement at all.

Incredibly sad regardless of the circumstances.
