What exactly the pats were accused of during spygate? Or I guess the question could be what exactly was spygate? I'm not sure if this site is the best place to ask this as obviously there will be a biased slant, but I figure the bias will be worse anywhere else and you all probably know the exact details moreso than say... people on the jets or dolphins board lol or any other teams board for that matter.

I just hear so many different views of what the exact crime was. A lot of people say it was cheating and taints everything because we stole signals and for that the pats were punished. Then there are others that say that we were punished only because we videotaped the signals, as opposed to... I don't know drawing them on a board or something. And then there is the 3rd group that says it wasn't any of that but was because the video camera/man was located in the wrong spot and that the pats were punished on a technicality.

So what is it really? Was it because:

1. Stealing signals is bad and is against the rules. Regardless of how its done. No one with a shred of decency would ever do this (sorry sarcasm got the best of me there).

Or

2. Stealing signals is fine, but since the pats video taped the signals, that was the whole reason for the fine/loss of draft pick.

Or

3. It was just bad placement of the camera guy. He should not have been on the sidelines.

Anyhow I just hear so many different stories of what exactly the crime was. From what I've read, it seems that Goodell (Godell?) said something along the lines of it being an "unfair advantage" and that just seemed to open up the "crime" to many different interpretations. So what exactly is the deal?

Don't bring it up man, please, not now ... not now.

can somebody please delete this thread .I'm begging you .  .if you must know the pats hired old retired CIA agents .they taped all the coaches illegally with hidden audio bugs .then they put secret hidden cameras in every nfl teams coaches offices and locker rooms .then they bribed players from other teams with cash to give them signals .we cheated every game since 01 .the pats are really owned by satin himself .and patriots fans are all devil worshipers .

I'm sorry, I don't visit this board often and don't know if this has been brought up before. I just honestly wanted to know so that I know how to respond to those people that like to act "holier than thou".

tell them to go f themselves .

A camera was set up in a place it shouldn't be. End of story. Do you honestly believe signals are absent from the numerous LEGAL tapes people can use? Sure, it's not supposed to be a point of emphasis to film other peoples signals, but this is professional football - come on. Why in the hell do you think players huddle around defensive coaches and guard the signals with towels?

your a liar .the patriots and all there fans are evil and we are all doomed to burn in hell .

I'd rather have a solid argument..

Seriously though, was it just the placement of the camera? If it was, I really cannot believe that people would get into such a tizzy over it.

Is that true? You don't happen to have an article or something that says that do you? I'm surprised it's not brought up more if that is the case. Usually all I hear is that signals were stolen and that is against the rules and is construed as cheating.

that's impossible because anybody who tells you the pats and BB are cheaters and there previous SB wins are suspect is just a hater anyway .its impossible to have a rational well thought out argument with someone like that .but hey knock yourself out .nothing you say will make any differnce . your name grogans army suggest your a older pats fan. and if thats the case you should know all about spygate .i think i smell a troll .

LMAO - we did something which is legal (stealing signs) but in a manner which is illegal. We broke a rule, we did not cheat :rocker:

I'm a Cowboys fan, but...

This whole thing got WAY out of hand. It from from FILMING the opponents' defensive signals TO blowing out the opponents' audio communication at Gillette TO ??!!videotaping opponents' practices!!?? TO stealing the opponents' ??!!offensive signals!!?? TO pretty much everything you can name to everything...

Honestly-it got way out of hand to the point where it seemed like everyone was jealous of the Pats.

That was my thinking is that they are just haters, but I don't know anymore... those same people are everywhere in all the football cities, even teams that we've hardly ever played. They all seem to have the same quality: irrational hatred against the pats which I really can't understand. I travel quite a bit and wear patriots clothing and I'm always getting the dirty look or being made fun of from clients, even though it is in a nice friendly way.

If it was just teams that we've beaten constantly I would agree, but its every single team. I don't get it. I would think that a team on threshold of making history would be looked upon more positively. But its like 95% of the people I meet say it doesn't count. Very annoying.

Yes, believe it or not, the infraction was due to the placement of the cameras. Period.

That's it - the placement of the cameras. Videotaping is not against the rules, and trying to figure out the other team's signals is not against the rules.

Next time someone gives you crap, ask them how the Patriots "cheated". I have yet had one opposing fan correctly identify the rules infraction. Many have essentially asked me, "Really, that's it? I didn't know that; why is espn and the newspapers making such a big deal about it?"

In my opinion many other fans are jealous and envious of the Patriots' success. Tearing the Pats down makes them feel better about their favorite team, and therefore better about themselves. They don't want to accept that another team is better and more successful.

No sorry, not a troll. I honestly was curious. When the spygate story first came out, I pretty much turned off all televeision and radio and didn't listen and only just watched the games. I'm one of those people that doesn't like to hear anything bad about their relatives/friends/teams etc.

And yes, I suppose I am an "older" pats fan, man it hurts to admit that lol. However, even though my name is grogan'sarmy I'll confess and admit that I liked Eason better back then. I never really liked grogan all that much, he just didn't look like a QB like Tony did. But then... I was only a kid back then heh.
