Used to playing on an island...very confident...sound footwork...nice change of direction and burst coming out of cuts...good route reader who closes quickly...good at reading the QB's eyes...nicely times his jumps...good hand placement in press...nice second gear when tracking and locates the ball well...aggressive...fills hard against the run...good hands...dangerous with the ball in his hands....physical....mentally tough...has shown good progression throughout his college career and should continue to improve. He was also a member of Arizona's track and field team, where he participated in both the 200 meter and sprint relays.

Really, he's the perfect Zone CB, and NE happens to play a zone heavy scheme.

How is he against the run? Can he shed blocks well? The newer TE and WR coming out of college are very big.

I wonder why he couldnt run the 100m on his track team? Does he have swivel hips. He also has to be good with man to man coverage or else WR will just shake him and break on another route and he wont be able to recover and QBs like Peyton Manning will just dink and dunk on him and he wont have the chance to make an int.

I think the patriots want a DB that is not only good at covering a route but also has the agility to compete for the ball.

A lot of good DBs suck because all they do is cover well and let the WR catch the ball. Is he a fearless DB, does he allow the WR to get behind him only so he can get into a better spot to either reach and tip for the ball or one handed it like Cromartie against the colts? Other DBS will stick close to the WR but the WR is athletic and the QB is good so most of the time the WR catches the ball and then the DB tackles him.

he is the best zone CB in the class. He doesnt make false steps in zone and makes great reads. Wont amaze you in terms of athletic ability but hes no slouch.

Hes the safest pick @ CB for us while guys like McKelvin and maybe Cromartie have the biggest upside

I have Cason on my watch list, too. I like the fact that he's been productive for so long-- that's something BB will value. Experienced.

Thing is, #7 is too high for him, and #64 is way too low. Not sure how we position ourselves to land him.

who knows whats too and too low now a days. 40 yard dashes make first the pick it seems and who knows..guys like Donte Whitner magically went up to Buffalo in top 10. Darnell Bing who was supposed to be a first rounder went like 4th..same with Ko Simpson. Its too early to predict whos going where even though we think we have general idea.

the CB class is tight..and its gonna come down to attitude and the combine to determine who the top 3 CBs REALLY are (between McKelvin, Jenkins, Cason, Cromartie, Lee, Talib)

a CB i really want later on is Jack Ikegwonu . Hes the 1 that blew out a knee while training so getting him later and letting him learn from a year off cant hurt. Low risk high reward type of deal if he makes it to 5th round or even worse.

I'd read he was more of a 3rd round type anyway, as he was more athlete than player last year. I believe he had a particularly bad knee blowout with both the ACL and MCL so I think we could get him with our late 5th or later.

Fair enough. I remember wanting Whitner for the Pats and giving up on Bing and Simpson, pre-draft... in the same way we're speculating about Ellis, Ghoulston, Cason and Philips.

I can see Cason rising from a third round prospect to something in the early 2nd, late 1st... maybe mid-1st... but still not #7 overall. There are too many interesting CBs with better measurables for him to rise into the top-10.

We have four picks to find a corner or two, a second, two thirds and a fourth. That's where we have gotten our corners in the past. And we have occasional surprises even later. Finally, we ahve often filled one of the corner positions through free agency. I see no reason for this year to be any different.

You do realize that if you had actually READ Sebman's post, it would have answered your questioned, right?

As for the "newer TEs and WRs" coming out of college, that's funny because most of the ones coming out are still pretty one dimensional.

I'm responding to the portion highlighted, and giving a little detail concerning his movement/physical ability. Cason changes direction quickly, has good knee bend, opens his hips quickly, and has a good second gear. I think he's the best Zone CB in the draft, but don't get my saying that confused with my saying he's not good in man. I just think he's even better in Zone, and NE's Defensive scheme should fit his ability.

well Drew is his agent and his agent hears from Jack, his family and doctors. The reporters are just guessing he'll miss season because of early judgment on the injury (oh its an ACL so he must be out)

Drew is the same 1 that said McGahee would be ready..he was right .

This is an added plus that I should have mentioned. I did say he's dangerous with the ball in his hands, but should have gone into more detail. He's been a good returner on special teams, and if he gets an interception he's a danger to take it the distance. I know I was impressed watching him take that 42 yarder back against the Ducks, and some members of the board might not realize he scored 4 TD's his senior season (two punt returns for TD's & and two INT returns for TD's).

He's also just got that football pedigree. His father played for the Falcons, his brother was a track and field athlete, and both Ken-yon Rambo and Aveion Cason are his cousins.

When you take everything into consideration, you've got to think he's going in the first round.

Most DB in the league can cover, a route. Especially if they play like 7 yards aways from the WR. I want a DB that will compete for the ball. A DB is only a shutdown corner if the QB knows that the DB will have the athletic ability to compete for the ball. If the QB knows the DB doesnt have the instinct to compete for the ball then he will throw against him all day long.
