Excellent Job and a good list.

I am interested to see how Forte does this week and in the game. I have to admit, I have not seen a Tulane game in quite some time so I only have scouting reports to go on.

No love for DeMario Pressley? I read somewhere that he could play any position on a 3-4 or 4-3 line. Allegedly, he was adept at 1 gap and 2 gap defense techniques. He has a nice build at 6'4" 298lbs for DE.

I really think Seymour is facing a cut or restructure question this year or next, and I'm not sure he wouldn't balk at the restructure and walk. So I'm feeling that it is increasingly likely that we'll take a DE in the first three picks.

Antoine Cason: He makes more sense than some of the other CB's on your list, yet you don't even list him as an option...

Safety: I can understand your being unwilling to waiver on Phillips at 7th overall, or maybe even in the top ten, but you don't even list him as an option. What if NE trades down, and Phillips slides?

LB: Jon Goff, did you forget him or something? In any case I can't understand this exclusion at all. With Cason or Phillips I can understand because you might not see them as good value where they're getting projected. But, Goff has been projected as a 2nd rounder, while many believe him to be among the best ILB's in this draft class. The only guy I liked more at 3-4 ILB was Maualuga, and he didn't declare. Did you watch him play, and look at his production? I'd really like to know, as I think he's among the better options at ILB.

Question for Heatster:

What do you think of Josh Barrett? Seems like a decent mid round option at SS. He's got outstanding size for the position (6'1" 225lbs), played at Arizona State, and while he's not fast, his speed isn't bad for a guy of his size (4.5 forty).

Scouting:

Strengths: Good range in zone coverage...makes plays at the LOS...has shown the ability to shed blocks quickly...good angles...high motor...always around the ball...strong open field tackler and hard hitter...good blitz timing and closing speed...tries to strip the ball carrier...has some ball hawking ability....also contributes on special teams.

Weaknesses: Can take false steps (very correctable)...can bite on play action...doesn't have the extra gear needed to recover when cought out of position...isn't fast enough to cover some slot receivers in man coverage...doesn't explode out of cuts...

His range in zone coverage, size, tackling, and attitude make him a candidate for NE's system. I also think some of his weaknesses can be corrected, and I should mention that NE doesn't seem all that worried about top level speed at SS (Harrison and Sanders say hello).

There will be people added to and subtracted to this list between now and the draft. I don't see the need for either Stewart or Mendenhall on this team, as they'd just be taking snaps away from Maroney, which I don't think is wise. Plus they figure to go in the first 40 picks or so, so it doesn't make sense to me. Same with Phillips. I don't think he's better than a lot of guys I listed, so he'd have to fall to the second day for me to consider him. I just don't get what people see in him.

I'm not really high on Cason. Just a gut. I've seen Goff play, although not nearly as much as you or Ochmed, who both seem to really like him. I don't know. I can't see him able to fight off blocks, or beat them, in the NFL. He might make it as a MLB somewhere.

Barrett's good. But it seems like there are a bunch of guys like him in every draft. He seems a little stiff, which isn't a deal breaker, but he never really stood out as being a prospect when I was watching ASU.

Quite a list, good job. I can't keep the thoughts of a trade back out of my head. It is not out of the question that Ryan or McFadden fall to 7 which would really put the Patriots in a prime trading position.

Someone you may want to remove is Josh Johnson, pretty serious charges.

Other names to think about especially in the 10-15 range, Clady, Phillips*, Connors, Rivers.

*If Phillips is an athletic as he is touted he could be used against a TE or slot receiver or as a blitzer. He could be very versatile in the Pats scheme, like a younger faster Harrison.

Where applicable, the weights are from the Senior Bowl weigh-in. For the others, they come from estimates from draft sites or the school's website.

I will have to agree. If you pre condition us by saying with the draft picks we have NOW, and that trading wouldnt happen....Trading down is a very real possibility, on another forum I have us trading down so Chicago can get a QB.....then I have us trading down from 14 to 22 with Dallas so they can get Mckelvin(picking up a 2 each time). There is ALOT more value in that, and the real value in the draft is from the bottom of the first to the mid-bottom of the 3rd. And I have to ask.... is that picture by your name of Hunter Thompson? Looks familiar.

I tried to put the list together of guys that would seem, at this point in time, to be a good value for the Patriots to draft where those players are expected to come off the board. I think McFadden and Ryan, top 12 picks at least, would represent terrible decision making for the Patriots. And so on. Other guys, like Clady and Phillips, I just don't get the attraction to, and there's guys whom I think are better that will be available much lower.

After the combine and Pro-days, I expect this list will change some. For example, with Ikeguwona's torn ACL this week, he'll come off the list.

I think he'll be a great use of a 6th or 7th round pick. Especially for a team that doesn't have a lot of room on the 53.

If Andre Caldwell is emmerging as one of the better WR's from this class...it's not saying much about the 2008 class overall. I like our chances finding somebody in FA.

He made a stupid mistake as an 18 year old. Won't be the last. Corey Dillon had a much rougher 18-20 year old period.

Plus, if he turns out to be a turd, it's no problem to cut a 6th or 7th round pick. He'll go on IR, no way in hell he's ready for TC, no matter what his agent says.

I believe his court date is shortly after the Super Bowl. I doubt he'll do jail time in any case.
