so that the pats can get flu shots?

This is ridiculous.

get flu shots, and don't get sick.

take some of the money you spend on Myoplex and that other dumb crap and get flu shots. For the love of God.

Oh, please, the effectiveness of flu shots is much much lower than other vaccinations. There's an excellent chance they all had flu shots.

Agreed. My father loves to point out he got the flu shot once and then got the worst flu he has ever had. The best way to avoid the flu or a cold is to keep your hands away from your mouth and eyes and wash them as frequently as possible. This time of year especially. I wear my gloves in stores this time of year too. Door handles in public buildings, malls etc. are probably the no 1 disease spreaders.

What're you, some kind of genius? You don't think the team doctors know about flu shots? They're only partially effective.

sometimes its hard to remember these guys are human!!!! lol

the flu shot is for one type of flu there are many other strains that it doesnt cover

so what is the sense in getting it? i've never gotten a flu shot. i'm with michael.... wash your hands all the time, especially after shaing hands, take your vitamins and get enough sleep.

I'm not some kind of genius, i'm every kind of genius.

I thought maybe that nfl players getting flu shots would help prevent them from getting the flu.

I know it's a pretty crazy thought but i thought i'd throw it out there and see what happens.

I never get flu shots and i'm never sick. These guys are professional athletes, there is no excuse for them to get the flu.

Keegs, what are you not hearing? The flu shot is not 100% effective. Some years they come closer to approximating the strain that will hit, some years they're not so close.
You can get the shot and still get the flu. So your last sentence is whacked.

its all a pr scam by the drug companies to make money, because you get the flu shot doesnt mean you wont get one of the many types of flu out there

The effectiveness/ineffectiveness of flu shots doesn't even factor in that many times people who have "the flu" don't have the flu. They actually have any number of other stomach viruses that are referred to by your average person as the flu but actually have nothing to do with the flu virus and would not be prevented by a flu shot.

My mother used to get the flu shot and every time she'd get hit with flu like symptoms. What a waste of time. I never get it and never get the flu.

what players are sick now?

Same thing happened to me when the flu shot came out, it was mandatory for me when I was in the army. Haven't had the shot since, or the flu.

And futhermore it's based on last year's flu bug - not this year's... while there's a chance this year's flu will be a mutated variety of last year's, there's also a chance it will be a new strain - and the shot will be useless against that...

So for millions who get the flu shot they put a weakened virus into their body for no good reason.

Of course, chances are the Patriots players do all have the opportunity to get the flu shot well before the playoffs - but by law no one can be compelled (unless you're in the army as the above poster noted... but in the Army you don't exactly have all your rights anyway)

Lots of misinformation on this thread about the flu shot.

Fact #1. You cannot get the flu from a flu shot. The vaccination is made up of dead cells and cannot cause the flue

Fact #2. Flu shots are based on previous flu strains, normally the most prevailant from the previous year. It will protect you from that strain, but not others.

Fact #3. The best way to prevent the flu is to wash your hands regularly, particularly after being in common areas (touching doors, railings, etc) and do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if possible.

Trust me, I've been knee deep in this stuff since I am responsible for pandemic planning for my place of business.
