Vrabel on 890 ESPN with Mike Felger
Mike Vrabel was on with Mike Felger this afternoon on 890 ESPN Boston, and several people have asked about the ending of the interview. Here is the last part of of the segment:

Felger: Is that your least favorite part of it? (referring to Media day during Super Bowl week)

Vrabel: Well, I’ve never liked talking to the media, you know that.

Felger: Well, you know, I’m not so sure, you know Mike, I see you on TV, I see you all over the place, I mean, I don’t know, I think you’re pretty good at it.

Vrabel: Well some of those are some of those are mandatory; I really like Greg ****erson, as a person,

Felger: Because he (won’t?) challenges you…

Vrabel: I think I like to do that little segment with Greg, because I think he’s a nice guy, I think he genuinely wants us to do well, as people and as players, and you, on the other hand, I don’t know if I can say that.

Felger: It’s unbelievable, why you guys have this impression that I don’t want you to do well.

Winter: I think you bring in on yourself there, Felgie

Felger: I don’t. I don’t. I think you want your ass kissed.

Vrabel: Who are you sitting in there with?

Felger: Kevin Winter.

Vrabel: Oh, hi Kevin. Now why can’t you let Kevin… I think you sit here for 10 minutes, you couldn’t let Kevin ask one question. It’s like “The Mike Felger Show, I have to ask all the questions.” Even though I got done talking with Kevin, been talking with Kevin for the last hour and a half, yet you can’t let him ask a question.

Felger: Go ahead Kevin.

Winter: I’m done. You asked them all!

Felger: See, he doesn’t got any.

Winter: I actually…I…

Vrabel: Kevin, that was your opportunity, I gave you an opportunity, and…

Winter: Mike, I uh, listen, my best part is any time we can go and just make fun of Felger, that’s where I actually am at my best.

Vrabel: Well, at least I can hear you ask the questions.

(Laughter)

Felger: Michael, have a good weekend, have a safe trip down there, we’ll catch you next week.

Vrabel: No, no you probably won’t. No, I think this is our finale.

Winter: Everyone is saying that…

Winter: We’re going to jump in at the hotel, we’re going to pull you guys aside, and do a little one-on-one.

Felger: It’s just not the case. Check the fine print of the contract.

Vrabel: You know, it’s been fun, it’s been real, but it hasn’t been real fun, Mike, I appreciate it.

(Laughter)

Felger: Mike Vrabel, we’ll see you

(Silence)

Winter: He’s gone!

Felger: Fine.

Winter: Everyone wants to get rid of you in a heartbeat.

Felger: Why do they all think I want the team to lose? You know?

Very nice, anyone got the audio?

That is priceless. The only reason Felger has any talent on air is because the team chose to play ball with ESPN's fledgling radio venure. And they hand select the talent that can neither be flumoxed into saying something they shouldn't by this a-hole or overcome by the urge to clock him. This year it was Vrabel and Light.

They can't stand his attitude, his smarmy grades, and they know he is looking to ferret out something that will cost them either in a game or in their own locker room (as he did our former punter). He doesn't get what real access is. Believe me, guys like Ordway or Holley get a lot more out of Belichick and his players because they have built a level of trust that Felger's small mind insists on characterizing as ass kissing.

I believe to this day that Holley getting the 2 year access book deal is what sent him over the edge. He thought he was their boy, and when someone else got that incredible opportunity (because they persued it and had the journalistic credibility to be trust worthy) he just lost it and morphed into this loudmouth jerk who antagonized his way into his own second tier multi media empire.

I watched him do a 2 minute piece with Brady after one of the playoff games and Brady's body language says it all. Very uncomfortable interview given just to fulfill an obligation. Sad thing is, they used to be actual social friends.

I don't care is Felger wants the Pats to win or lose.
I don't care that Burton jumps up and cheers on the sidelines during a big Pats play.
I don't care if Hodge picks the Giants.
I don't care if DeOssi is rooting for the Giants.

If a commentator picks against the Pats, or says anything remotely not pro-Pats, it doesn't make them or an idiot, moron or any other of the many names that they are called here.

I want them to bring something to the table other than spygate, arrogance, running up the score, and gossip. When Wrong use to talk about personalities and everything other than football, Felger talked football. That has changed. It's a sign of the Inside Edition or Hollywood Tonight-ization of sports commentary.

At one time, he was an alternative to Mannix/Borges. Now he is the "same neighborhood".

Wow. I've got to hear the audio on this. This is great stuff. I bet Vrabel wanted to say that all season but held it in till the end.

And I agree about the weei stuff. They're level of sports talk with each other and callers is pretty low (I find 890 and sometimes 1510 better to listen to); but their interviews with the Patriots, especially Bill, are great.

Felger's central failing is that
he is so full of himself
that he cannot understand how others would not be.

And Mannix's weren't?

I think it's silly when the media attempts to grade something they can't possibly understand well enough to. Even the up and down knee jerk assessments as a game ends annoy me. That said, Mannix didn't ever strike me as a wise ass, especially where players were concerned. Just more of an ass. Felger uses his grades to needle and to create talking points for his radio show. And this being their livlihood, guys really resent it.

You know, one reason we don't (or until they took it into their own hands) see our players getting their due awards and post career consideration wise is because the media in this town has a tendancy to rip them all on a game by basis. They moreso than BB created the system misperception that still to some extent permeates the national media when it comes to this team. They don't toot their own horns, but it would be nice if someone else did.

Instead the greatest dynasty of them all has continued to lag in the credit department. A year ago the idiot who now grades them was insisting that if he were starting a team from scratch in 2006-07 his QB choice would be Palmer...because he is not a homer and he sees things objectively...:blahblah:

Thank God they're not playing Green Bay.

that guy just seems like the classic piss off the fans to get listenrs guy

Good to hear Vrabel knock him down a peg.

He uses "sensationalism" to get ratings, which sucks and why he appears to want the pats to loose.

somebody has to get the link for that interview .that was great .i love vrabel telling it like it is :D

Great point. Felger's book "Tales from the Patriots sidelines" came out at around the same time as "Patriot Reign" did. Felger was routinely mocked in the media for having the inferior book, including to his face by ****erson on FSN.

LOL... GO Vrabs!! That was awesome!!

I don't care

stopped watching channel 4 just because of him. It’s a shame as I really like Burton, Lobel, DeOssi and Reiss. I just can’t get past him and now watch channel 7 which is far worse except they don’t have Felger
