At mid-season many of the nay-saying sports annalists were claiming that the reason New England would not go 16-0 is because the Patriots had assembled a warm weather or dome offense. An offense that because of the vertical passing game plays its best football in warm weather or a dome. They further predicted that the cold windy weather of New England and Baltimore, Buffalo, and New Jersey would be the teams eventual undoing.

Turns out the annalists were not far off the mark. New England's offense has struggled since the bye week when playing in cold and wind. Not enough to lose, but enough that the blowouts have stopped.

But those same nay-sayers seem to now ignore there own almost completely correct analysis. Now they are no longer saying that New England's offense is built best for warm calm climates and domes but that New England's offense has failed to execute is no longer as strong as it once was.

Very astute observation. Dr. Z, in defending his pick of the Giants to upset us, justifies it by saying the Giants are on the rise while the Pats are in decline. What a bunch of Morons. Can't wait to see what will the headlines look like AFTER the Pats blow those overhyped frauds off the field next Sunday. Most likely it will be more hating along the lines of the running up the score stuff we heard earlier this year.

The Pats just can't win in the court of public opinion.

I don't believe that. I haven't seen the same people taking both positions. It's easy to say "the same people said" but often when you actually check that's just fuzzy thinking. Let's see more than one example.

I guess you don't ever speak in generalities? I seem to remember "most" of the talking heads representing it the way the OP describes. The popular idea I heard "all over" was that Brady's numbers would come down when the weather got bad. Of course, the Pats would be in trouble then because we had no running game. By and large that is how it went except that we do indeed have a running game and although the numbers and scoring did indeed drop with the temperature we still did not lose a game. If the decline in scoring etc. WAS because of the weather, and the next game is being played in a warm wether venue, why aren't the mediots predicitng the Pats offense to revert to form? Instead, as the OP points out, "most" of them are saying this is a close game because the Pats offense isn't what it used to be.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
