Certainly a heart-warming story.
Heath is a feel-good story all by himself.
I admire Kawika Mitchell for telling it that way.

And i'm not trying to be either cynical or sarcastic.
But i would be very surprised if almost all such gestures
did not impart a distinct squeeze or twist to the rescued limb.

Heath was one of the main reasons we controlled the SD defense and the clock in the last 9 minutes against SD. Great blocking!

I don't know, call me cold-hearted, but I'd rather players not help the opposing team in anyway.

I remember when Ditka was coaching he had a rule that you couldn't help opposing players off the ground. I agree with this.

You figure you only have so much energy in the tank, why waste even a little of it helping a 250 lb guy off the ground?

Not to mention you lose 5-6 seconds getting back to the huddle.

In a game of inches, every second and ounce of energy count.

I think helping a player up can be beneficial in terms of head games.
If you knock down a player and stare at him, maybe he gets p!ssed and resolves to do the same to you; but, if you knock him down and then help him up, you A) take away that angry incentive and B) are telling him, "I'm helping you up just so I can put you on your back again."
It can be seen as an issue of control, like, I can put you down or pull you up, it's my choice.

I think it works better than shouting at a player or giving him a push while he's on the ground, because I just don't think NFL players get intimidated often. Besides, it engenders good sportsmanship and takes away from the possibility of cheap shots on either side.

Besides, Ditka's kind of a tool. I'll never forget him giving the Fridge a TD against the Pats when he should have gotten a SB TD for Payton.

I remember hearing about a game where a team was playing the Bills and trying to figure out how to slow down O.J. The coach devised a strategy of having his guys immediately help O.J. up after a tackle in hopes that he wouldn't have any chance of resting when on the ground. After the game (which the Bills won with O.J. having a great day running the ball), one of the defenders was asked about the strategy and he commented something like, "it may not have helped us win the game, but we sure came out looking like gentlemen!"

Personally, I prefer to play with sportsmanship. Don't need to win at all costs, you can still give your best effort while treating and respecting your opponents as people also giving their best

Evans might be a good guy and decent blockerbut I still cringe everytime he touches the ball. For a big guy I don't think I've ever seen the dude break a tackle. He constantly drops on first contact.
