Interesting quote from an article where Burress favorably compares the Giants WRs to the Pats. His reason why the Giants receivers don't have to take a back seat to Moss, Welker, Stallwroth and Gaffney?

" But there's an easy explanation, Burress says, for the perception the Patriots' receivers are a cut above the rest.

"They've got Tom Brady," Burress said. "

well duh Plexico.

It's true, but probably not the thing you want to be saying in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.

Could you imagine Troy Brown heading into SB 36 against the Rams trying to defend his receiving corp as second best in the game by stating that Bruce, Holt and Co. appear to be better because they have league MVP Kurt Warner as QB?

Or Beion Branch saying that Branch/Givens would be just as good as Harrison/Wayne if the Pats only had Peyton Manning? :D

Plex is a big time player and the Steeelers are kicking themselves for not keeping him. However Toomer is a drop machine and they have no one like Welker. We have not even gotten into Gaffney or the other 2 that get no playing time. If the Pats even went a true 5 wide there is no way the Giants could cover everybody

Moss
Stallworth
Welker
Gaffney
Washington/Jackson

The Giants 3rd best reciever stats wise is on the IR (Shockey) there 4th best has 225 yards. These guys offensive wise remind me alot of us 2 or 3 years ago. The problem for them is their defense is not as good as any of our previous SB teams. Not even close as a matter of fact with the exception of their pass rush the Pats are better in every category. As for the comparison between us and the Rams, 2 things, 1)we came up from a hardnosed team and grew into a high flying high scoring machine we still know how to crank the screws when necessary, 2)The Rams had Kurt Warner we have Tom Brady...Big Difference, huge.

Disagree. Didn't the Steelers win the SB without him? At that time, I thought Plex should be kicking himself for wanting out of the Steelers.

true but they turned out to be care takers and will not compete long term without a big play threat. Hines is a great possesion wr but thats it. Maybe they have something in their young 2nd year wr but time will tell. I just dont think you give up 6'5" 225lbs 4.4 40yd without a fight.

Really, how do you feel about both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick saying that Ed Reed is better than anybody on the Patriots secondary in the days leading up to the Ravens game? Or Bill Belichick implying Cromatie is far better corner then anybody on the Patriots squad in the days leading up the the AFCCG?

Brady is a better QB than Eli. If he had said otherwise there would be a thread about how the Giants are trash talking the Patriots.

he's also said in the past that the Phins are a great team that just hasn't caught any breaks:rofl:

Are you calling Bill Belichick a lier? Dolphins are much better team than their record.

My point being, there is nothing wrong with Burress being honest about Brady vs. Eli. If you can't honestly assess the other teams strengths and your own teams weaknesses then you can properly prepare for a game.

Patriots win games because, unlike the fans, Belichick recognizes the strengths of teams like the Dolphins and game plans around them.

You're missing the point. Neither BB or TB would ever say that Ed Reed creates the perception that the Ravens defense looks better than ours when that isn't necessarily the case. Plex is saying that the Giants WR are every bit as good as the Patriots, only they have Eli to contend with while our guys benefit from Tom. I don't think that's the case because, in fact, Eli may have been better than his WR's (and TE) have led folks to perceive for sometime now...

Not to say Eli is or will ever be in Tom's league, in part because he has lingering issues vs. pressure that can be exploited, but he's a pretty good thrower and game manager when his receivers make the right reads and adjustments, stay out of his ear, and catch the damn ball.

I don't think Burress was intending to compliment the Pats OR assess their strengths. He was defending how good he thought his corp of Wide Receivers were in comparison to the Pats group. In doing so he inadvertently blames his QB for the success and/or failings of his group.

This Just In... :D

Brady is the best QB in the game. I'm quite sure Manning understands that being considered less of a QB than Brady, or his brother for that matter, is not an insult, even if people here don't.

Actually he said it while impersonating Lloyd Benson's voice,

"Eli, I played against Tom Brady, I know Tom Brady, Tom Brady is a friend of mine. Eli, you are no Tom Brady."

Why not? Butter him up a little bit (prepare him for a fall).

Smith, their rookie WR, is awful. I hope he gets a lot of playing time next week.

Are you calling Bill Belichick a lier? /QUOTE]

Belichick isn't a liar, but I think these two situations are completely different.

Belichick is good at what he does. He says all the right things about the opponent to ensure there is no bulletin board material for the other side. When you look at the words on paper, there is simply nothing you can use on the other side for motivation.

At the same time, he is very careful to make sure he doesn't say anything in a way that would hurt his team's confidence. He walks a very fine line between saying words that sound like "praise" of the opposition, in a way that will ensure his team takes them seriously, while also making it clear he doesn't believe it's a serious problem.

Essentially the way he does this is to let everyone know that he knows they know he's full of sh*t. He does this all the time. Part of the reason that he praises the opposition before every game -- even when it's the Dolphins -- is precisely so that it's understood whenever he does it that he's just going through the motions.

Basically, he's found many creative ways of saying absolutely nothing.

I think Burress comments are a bit different. They're a weird thing to say before the game. Sounds to me as though he got a bit defensive and then he said something that perhaps he shouldn't have. It's one thing to praise Tom Brady. It's another can of corn to implicitly compare him to your own quarterback.

They (Cowher and Wisenhut) gave him up because he and Ben were working on their own clandestine gunslinger offense and Cowher knew that is not what Steeler football is supposed to be about. What they need is not another tall target for Meathead, they need a 2 headed RB monster and a QB willing to manage the offense his coaches install.

Ben is a big time Brady wannabe. Problem is he doesn't get what Tom is.
