who would you take for the patriots?

My first reaction is probably DE/OLB C. Long from Virginia.

How about you all?

All players are in play, and assuming we have no gains or losses from free agency?

Jake Long.

It would be a major shocker if either Long makes it to us.

I think it's at least 50-50 that J. Long is there for us. C. Long a little less but he's more player than workout guy/athlete so I could see others moving ahead of him after the combine.

Not sure who I'd like. If one of the CB grades out as top ten value I'd probably go there.

If one of the Longs fell (especially Chris Long), could you see the Pats trading up to #5 to screw the JEST?

No.
The Pats need to worry more about improving their own team than to "screw" the Jets.
That's like drafting Brohm just because he would be a potential improvement over Pennington.
It has little to no relevance for the Pats unless it makes OUR team better.

At this point I think we trade the #7 pick and move down. I think a QB will be there at #7 and someone will want to get ahead of Baltimore to get him.

I also think that Parcells is locked and loaded with C Long and any QB talk is just false signals.

However if I had my pick of players at #7, I would take J Long, since he could come in and start at ROT from day #1.

I think that would be an added bonus, rather than a reason for making the trade, to them obviously liking the player.

If I could pick anyone on the board it'd be Chris Long but I think it's about 10-90 he makes it down that far.

Chris Long would be a possibility, but I question whether he can really play OLB or whether it would be a steep learning curve for him. Of course his coach and dad are going to talk up his ability to play OLB with all of the 3-4 teams at the top of the draft.

Can we assume that Atlanta will switch to 3-4 now that they've nipped our director of college scouting? What about Cincinatti after hiring Mike Zimmer?

Gholston, DE, Ohio State

If C. Long is there him. If not, Gholston.

J Long if not him then Gholston

Gholston/Rivers/McKelvin

i dont care if 2 of them are reaches..i dont believe in that

im really hoping its either mckelvin or rivers - i think they're both gonna be beasts

Chris Long doesn't make any sense given we have Seymour, Wilfork and Warren. All three are young and people might whine about Seymour, but watching the tape - he's still getting double teamed more than Warren, and almost as much as Wilfork (which is positional).

Then you start off with somebody we have NO CHANCE of getting. C. Long is listed as a Top 3 player...we are drafting 7th. The 7th selection is not looking like a ideal Trade spot in this Draft which is really nothing special at the Top. I don't know about paying Top dollar for #7 player over a marquee FA. Those two games San Francisco won late really put a damper on our trade hopes. If we were sitting at #3 now we'll be talking at #7 we NEED alot of things to happen.

I realize Long is highly rated, but to say he could not fall to #7 is unrealistic at this point. I am not even sure if he did fall to 7, he would be the patriots pick, that is a lot of money to spend on a guy who would be making a position change. Honestly, I do not see one player I like at #7 at this point. the 2 DT's (Ellis and LSU guy) are probably the most talented, but they would be sitting and you do not pay #7 to sit on the bench. It is frustrating, I am hoping one of the CB's or LB's step up.

Gholston. If Jake Long and Gholston are gone then we should take the best QB available. Use him as trade bait. Don't even talk to anyone about trades before hand..........and then BOOM! NE Patriots select Andre Woodson from UK. Then just sit back and wait for the phone to ring.

That's what i'm saying hoping a player or two work their way up the charts. I think the Patriots are shopping that 7th pick as we speak. Our Team don't really need a whole lot and their is alot of dept at all the Positions we are NEEDY at. When there is very good dept...you don't need the cream of the crop.
