Is last 9:21 Drive a record to end a game?

Is there any source to see if the Pats last drive on Sun. v. Chargers which ate-up the final 9:21 of the game is another NFL record?

That amt. of time to end the game is unusual, because you need a combination: (1) of dumb time-outs by the opponents, (2) your drive starting deep in your own territory and ending at the other end of the field without scoring; (3) a bunch of 3rd down conversions to add to the total plays; and (4) a strong running game to overcome the fact that the opposing team knows you are going to run the ball on most plays.

I wondered the same. It's probably not a record, but it was a beaut. And it was definitely the longest clock killing drive by the Pats in a good while. Excellent execution. I'm sure the Defense was jazzed up about that one.

It was unbelievable, particularly considering there was a play that Maroney went out of bounds when I thought he should have fallen down in bounds. They didn't lose that much time because the clock started again when the ball was placed, but still.

Hopefully the last couple of drives give the offense some momentum after the early INTs.. I hope they have a great week of practice and head into the SB on all cylinders. No more INTs!

I remember the Pats had a real long drive in '04 against the Colts. It was something like 10 minutes. I don't think it was to end the game. I think we ended up scoring, but I remember after the game BB said something to the effect of "That was the best execution of a drive we've had since I've been here. The execution was absolutely perfect."

It was 9:13 and I posted a similar thread earlier in the week. As it turned out it wasn't even a Pats record as we once chewed up 9:46 in a game against Detroit

Yea, the regular season game in November. Antwain Smith fumbled going into the end zone at the end of the first half. Woulda been up 17-7.

Have to say that last drive of that game, like our last drive against SD, was quite impressive.

Thanks, groundgame for drawing attention to perhaps the most underrated aspect/stat of the AFC Championship game. For me, that 9 minute drive was the most dominating performance I've ever seen by any offensive unit at the pro level - ever!

Football is at its roots and origin a brute sport. The game evolved from soccer, first as rugby, then transitioned into the modern gridiron game it is today. Throughout it's history, Football has been about dominance. That is, imposing one's will on an intractable and formidable opponent. That is football at its essense, and the running game is the ultimate expression of said dominance.

Football emeriti often point to the glory days of football when the Packers and Lombardi football ruled. Most of us have heard of how Lombardi's Packers would destroy and demoralize teams, running the power sweep down the opposition throats and then running it again. Unstoppable!!

That's what the Pats did to the Chargers Sunday. They ran it down their throats repeatedly, daring the Chargers to man up and stop the rush. Of course they couldn't and are still crying days after the game. The Chargers folded like Marlon McCree, rolling ass over teakettle from the Patriots assault. I loved it and I'm shocked that most of the Media (Bob Ryan touched on it) have not made more of how dominant a performance that was.
