Okay, first of all, they all just seemed like these anticlimactic exercises in picking a "caretaker" team when NE wasn't in them. That Steelers super bowl was just like, ehhhh whatever, you know this won't last. The Colts super bowl was like, okay well at least now Peyton has a ring. Whoopdedoo.

But of course, that's just homerism, and the gravitas of a dynasty being involved rather than a flash-in-the-pan, one-and-done team.

But regardless of your team, you have to admit, it is WAY more fun following the story lines leading up to XLII.

I mean, we're the Evil Empire, and people HATE us! They're already complaining in New York about how dirty we are, and of course, NY is the City That Never Sleeps Because They Stay Up All Night Hating Boston, these days. Think about the comparison: how many people through the league were saying "Anybody but those damn Colts?" or, "I'm watching that game just to see the damn Steelers lose?" Nobody, that's who.

There's a general meanness in the air this year that I think really goes with football. I know, I know, there are going to be Dungy types out there who want to hold hand with the other team in a circle after the game, yadda yadda yadda. Well nothing wrong with that, until it turns into the sanitized "If you ain't prayin' you ain't playin'" bullcrap we've gotten used to.

Here's to a mean football game with bad attitudes and no love lost. Like it's SUPPOSED to be.

So true - I am a sports radio fanatic and for the next two weeks it's Patriots (or Giants) 24/7!! Other years when the Pats are out I have to switch back to the 70's on FM radio by this time. Gotta love it!!

The Steelers super bowl sucked-- Everyone was hoping for the Steelers to win the SB, because they beat the Colts.. Not me, being from Pa..

The Colts one hurt, because of obvious reasons- This week that we were in now, last yr, was the most depressing week , Ive had in a long time.. The Denver loss, I got over faster..

Thank god we dont have to talk about that this time.. Best 2 weeks if your a pats fan, in football..

I'm not one for making predictions but I think this one will be like the Carolina SB. That remains my favorite SB. I think this one will be a defensive battle and whoever gets the ball last will win the game...

Then again, Eli might poop his pants under the pressure as he's done in the past and it might be a laugher. I'm hoping for a good, intense game with the Pats coming out on top.

P.S.- Keep talking Giants. Please keep talking. ;)

Totally agree, it is nice to actually care about the Super Bowl this year. Last year I was so distraught about the Colts being in it, I didn't even realize when the game actually started. I showed up at a friends house at 8PM to notice that it was almost halftime. God knows it won't happen this year since my eyes and ears will be absorbing all things Super Bowl.

Prior to the 2005 SB, I was indifferent, but ok with a Steeler's win, especially after seeing them almost get jobbed in Indy.
Then I saw the gifts they got to keep Seattle from winning, and I was shocked.

In 2006, I was disgusted all around. I felt the someone had ensured Peyton would have his chance after watching the afccg, but I couldn't see a Rex Grossman led team beating anyone. The race and religion overtones of last year's SB were lame.

This year, I'm glad to see a team put up with the Colt's favoritism and still win, glad to see the Pats going for something unprecedented, and while the Packers matchup would have been preferred, the Giants have done something impressive and being from NY will ensure this SB is rated highly.

I just hope it's a 14+ point blowout. I've lost too much of my sanity, and my heart's health over the past few months.

This is the best two weeks of the year, if you are a Pats fan. Last year, I had to turn sports radio off for these weeks, and I didn't do much surfing for NFL news. Why bother, my Pats weren't in it.

It does seem like this might be a highly watched super bowl. And the Pats are very polarizing. Football fans either want to see us get to 19-0, or they want to see us come crashing down. In my area, it seems to be the latter more than the former.

I'd much rather be talking about this, than the top topics seen on the Ravens board yesterday; Greatest sports movies, Worst sports movies, Heath Ledger, New Ravens Coaches will bring the team back........OMG, just shoot me.......

This is shaping up like yet another Super Bowl letdown, it seems to me. Not for Pats fans, but for much of the nation.

We're playing a 10-6 team folks.

What's that line that Parcells used to say?

"You are what you are."

In terms of the Patriots Super Bowl opponents over the years, I rank them like so:

1. 86 Bears
2. 01 Rams
3. 03 Panthers
4. 96 Packers
5. 07 Giants
6. 04 Eagles

Why no love for the '04 Eagles? Donovan McNabb, TO, Freddie Mitchell.

Freddie obviously a joke.

you must've really been out of it. The Super Bowl starts at 6:30'ish every year

four straight conference championship game appearances (1 victory)

They were a perennial contender and should be given a little love at least.

I know it's been awhile so we tend to forget, but the 1996 Packers were ranked #1 in offense and defense, so they should be at least #2 on your list.

I believe the 01 Rams were the same that year. They were much better on defense that year than they usually were.

I was just going by which team I would rather face in a game next week.

The Packers were a lot more vulnerable than the Rams IMO.
