Seriously. Look at their roster people. I am not a HOMER by any stretch of the imagination(that's why I'm hated on this board :D ), but I am having a hard time making a case for ANYONE on the Giants that could start for the Patriots. I mean, you MIGHT be able to convince me on Strahan and Burress, but that is it. I mean, who else? Osi Umenyiora? Maybe, but I still will take Ty Warren or Richard Seymour. That's it. That is why I am having a hard time taking this Giants team serious. They just lack that BIG TIME TALENT that I think is needed to knock off this 2007 Pats team. I think a team needs SUPERHUMAN efforts by a few great players to not just stay close, but to actually WIN the game. Who on the GIANTS is a great player? Brandon Jacobs? No. Solid, not great. Eli Manning? Puhleaze. I'm sorry, but I think this game is a BAD MATCHUP for the Gmen. People think that the Giants will benefit from having already played us. I beg to differ. I think the Patriots will benefit far more from having already played the Giants, because now they know what they can and can't do against the Gmen and they have the superior talent and coaching to make the proper adjusments going into a second meeting. Having played the Pats so tough last time around may actually hurt the Giants, because they may come into this game too overconfident and think that it will be easier the 2nd time around. I just think this game has all the makings of an absolute BLOWOUT once it gets into the 2nd half.

name me two players on the Patriots 2001 squad that could have gotten a starting role on the 2001 Rams squad. in 2001.

whenever anyone reads a post such as this, us readers try very hard to find a contrarian point of view and think of more than 2 players that could/would start for the Patriots, but I don't can't think of anyone else who would start either.

You make a good point, but I would like to pose a question to you.

I don't pose this question in an attempt to downgrade your piont, but I am really curious of your answer.

How many 2001 Patriots would have been starting for the 2001 Rams?

Willie McGinest. Ty Law. Lawyer Milloy. Tedy Bruschi. Mike Vrabel. Richard Seymour. You could make a case for ALL of those players that year. Tom Brady wasn't ready at that point in time so scratch him. The Pats also had the edge in coaching and special teams that year. What edge do the Giants have in ANYTHING? Not special teams. Not coaching. Not offense. Not defense. NOTHING. Plus, NOBODY gave the Pats a shot that year. The Giants are actually being picked to WIN by some national media people and 64% of the public actually thinks the Gmen will at least cover the spread according to a popular gambling website I frequent.

Long-term I'd prefer Warren; however, I'd take Strahan right now. I'd take Burress over Stallworth any day. Sam Madison over Hobbs. Antonio Pierce over either Bruschi or Seau(They should be back-ups now)

It's hard to ignore Tuck and Osi, but it just so happens the Patriots have 3 pro-bowlers in their prime on the D-Line right now.

Ty Law
Lawyer Milloy
Willie McGinest
Tedy Bruschi

Adam Vin.... no can't finish the traitor's name
and so on....

Anyways, TALENT doesn't win football games, so the posters topic is irrelevant and I understand your point, just had to be that *******.

Osi Umenyiora over Warren.. And.. um.. I think I'd take a healthy Plaxico over Donte.. Umm.. Feagles? He's good at coffin corners, haha.

I see your point, no one is doubting that the Pats are way way better, and I think a blowout for the Pats is far more likely than a Giants win, but I'm not sure a close Pats win isn't the most likely outcome.

another good point by you

gibril wilson and plaxico burress

I remember a similiar thread in 2002 started by a Rams fan demanding the same answer. He was skewered by us for being so arrogant about his team. We have become them....I hope the results are different.

Was Mike Martz a "great" coach in 2001? No. He had ZERO titles. Bill Belichick is a proven GREAT coach with 3 titles on the mantle already. The 2001 Pats had the EDGE BIG TIME in coaching. The 2001 Pats had GREAT special teams. Troy Brown, remember him? Adam Vinatieri, remember him? The 2001 Pats had a GREAT special teams unit in 2001. The 2001 Pats offense scored 371 points, the defense gave up 271 points, and they came into the super bowl on a 8 game winning streak and 10-1 over their previous 11 games heading into the super bowl. The 2007 Giants offense scored 373 points, the defense gave up 351 points, and they have won only 3 games in a row heading into the super bowl and finished 4-4 in their final 8 regular season games. PUHLEAZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me a break with the comparisons between the 2001 Pats and 2007 Giants. There are NONE.

They are each good players but would they have beaten out the respective Ram? And if we are counting Adam V (who is not traditionally considered a starter), the Giants punter over Chris Hanson

I actually agree on all counts, except one (Bruschi over Fletcher). McGinest over Little. Law over Aeneas Williams. Milloy over Archuleta. Vrabel over...Don Davis. Seymour over Young.

If not all of the Defesne than the big majority of it. The Rams were a team All Offense, No Defense like the 2003 -2004 Colts. They couldn't play D except with a 21 point lead, and the other team having abandoned the run...

Uh, yeah!!! Who the hell on the Rams was better than Ty Law, Willie McGinest, Richard Seymour, Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, and Lawyer Milloy? People forget so quickly. Look at this Rams defense from 2001 below. Friggen Don Davis was a starter for 8 games on that squad!! Good lord!! Are you telling me Ty Law isn't better than Dexter McCleon? Richard Seymour wasn't better than the immortal Brian Young or Jeff Zgonina? Tedy Bruschi isn't on par with London Fletcher? Lawyer Milloy wasn't just as good or better than Adam Archuletta? Willie McGinest wasn't better than Tommy Polley or Mark Fields? People forget how OVERRATED that 2001 Rams defense truly was.

LDE Chidi Ahanotu
LDT Brian Young
RDT Jeff Zgonina
RDE Grant Wistrom
LLB Tommy Polley
LLB Don Davis
MLB London Fletcher
RLB Mark Fields
LCB Aeneas Williams
RCB Dexter McCleon
SS Adam Archuleta
FS Kim Herring

For those who can't remember:

2001 Rams:

DE - Leonard Little/Chidi Ahanotu
DE - Grant Wistrom
DT - Brian Young/Jeff Zgonina/Tyoka Jackson
OLB - Tommy Polley
OLB - Don Davis/Mark Fields
MLB - London Fletcher
CB - Aeneas Williams
CB - Dexter McCleon/Dre' Bly
FS - Kim Herring
SS - Adam Archuleta

2003/4 Colts:

DE - Brad Scioli/Robert Mathis/Raheem Brock
DE - Dwight Freeney/Chad Bratzke
DT - Larry Tripplett
DT - Montae Reagor/Josh Williams
OLB - Marcus Washington (03)/Cato June (young)
OLB - David Thornton
MLB - Rob Morris/Gary Brackett (young)
CB - Nick Harper
CB - Walt Harris (03)/Jason David
FS - Idrees Bashir/Bob Sanders (young)
SS - Mike Doss

Neither even come close to comparing to the 2007 Pats.

While I'm at it, I'd take Damien Woody at center over Andy McCollum too.

Umenyiora would never start at DE for the Patriots over Ty Warren.

Warren is 6'5" 300 lbs. Umenyiora is 6'4" 274 lbs... Umenyiora doesn't have even close to what you look for in a 3-4 DE... 3-4 DEs are there to take on blockers and be stout against the run, occasionally making plays behind the line of scrimmage... Umenyiora is a "pin-your-ears-back", all-out pass rusher.

Okay, sure, you're right. But if you add the qualifier "in the Patriots defensive scheme", then none of the Giants would qualify. I was more assessing relative talent in their own scheme, but in a strictly literal sense, you're right.
