I rarely post here and enjoy the banter, but I need a clarification.

Explain to me why the NFL is allowing two Washington Redskins to wear Sean Taylor's number in the Pro-bowl but yet no mention of allowing the Pats players to wear Marquise Hill's number in the game?

What about the two Denver players who died during the off-season? Shouldn't the Patriots and the Broncs feel slighted that their teammates aren't honored like Sean Taylor was just because they had the misfortune to die in the off-season?

Maybe the Patriots didn't ask?

If the Patriots asked to do this, I'm 100% sure they would be allowed. I expect we will see his number as a decal on their helmet as we have all season.

I am not 100% sure. Sean Taylor was named to the Pro Bowl, so any honoring of him there is completely justified, honoring someone else who wasn't named is much less relevant. You can make an argument that honoring Hill at the Pro Bowl is inappropriate and lessens the honor to Taylor. That may be why the Patriots apparently didn't ask.

The reality is that most of the Pats might skip the Pro Bowl or maybe they'll show up to gloat and recruit.

Honoring the death of one person lessons the honor of honoring the death of another?
Are you really trying to say that Taylors life is more worthy of being honored because he was a probowl player? Thats pretty harsh.

I think the difference is that taylor died during the season.

No, but honoring a Probowl player during the Probowl makes more sense than honoring a non-Probowl player during the Probowl.

I wouldn't read anything into it at this point. Maybe they didn't ask. Maybe they asked and the NFL said no. Maybe they asked Hill's mother and she said "he wouldn't want you to do that." etc.

I'm not sure you meant to word it this way, but I understand that's what you're saying.

If the Patriots came to the league and said "we want to wear Hill's number", then I think they would probably allow it. However, the Patriots (and I) think that the decal was sufficient, and I would expect them to wear that in the Pro Bowl as well.

Also, I do think the Taylor thing is good, and they should definitely do it. I live in DC, so I saw a lot of Sean Taylor, and definitely admire the tribute they have given him here.

alamo is right. Sean Taylor was selected to play in the Pro Bowl and his teammates wearing his number is a way of acknowledging the fans who voted him in. I just don't see how or why Marquis Hill factors into this at all.

I will agree with that. Taylor was elected to the Pro-bowl and Hill was not.

But if we hear about Taylor during the SB and not Hill, game in which the Redskins are not participating, we have reason to be pissed.

And I predict an at least a 5 min tribute to Taylor during the 6 hour pre-game show, and no mention of Hill.

Now understand. I think that Taylor's death was a tragic. He was the best safety playing in the NFL and he was still in his mid-20's. But, the tributes to him seem to over shadow everyone else. Can anyone honestly remember when four active NFL players died in one year?

Taylor's life IS more worthy of being honored AT THE PRO BOWL because he was a pro bowl player.

Taylor will be rightfully honored at an event in which he was voted to participate.

Hill has been and will be honored again in events related to him, such as the Super Bowl in which his team is participating.

What is there not to understand?

I must admit it is several years since i have actually bothered to watch that sort-of football thing called the pro-bowl.

but I thought the players wore their own helmets from their own team with a standard AFC or NFC jersey. If so and since the 91s have been on the helmets the whole season (probably schellacked there) I doubt they wont put them on. (or doubt they will take them off - as the case may be)

I think is probably just a function of Patriots one game at a time attitude. We still have a game to play. The Redskins are thinking about the pro-bowl as the highlight of their off-season.

I bet you this is a non-issue.
