Club seat and luxury box holders should be PROHIBITED from scalping SB tix!

As a 14-year season ticket holder, I've been shut out in the Super Bowl ticket lottery each time so far (five chances). Reports persist that no regular season ticket holders hit the lottery this time, and that some club seat/luxury box holders are scalping their Super Bowl tickets at outrageous prices. Does this represent a double standard by the Krafts? If a season ticket holder is caught peddling tickets on eBay, he's in danger of losing his season ticket privileges. Similar controls should be in place for tickets to the one game most regular season ticket holders really want to attend. The corporate mucky mucks should either use the damn things (half of them don't really care about football) or put them back in the lottery. HELLO BOB! You're taking a PR hit on this issue. NEVER has the team explained how the lottery works or how many tickets are put in the hopper. Ron Borges told me in an e-mail that the team put 20 tickets in the lottery for SB 39, which at the time I found hard to believe. Now, I'm not doubting it.

Ive had season tickets for 13 years and havent been picked yet. I really want to get them this year since I have a place to stay in AZ. Just cant justify $4000 for 2 tickets right now. For the GB/Pats superbowl I scored 2 tickets for $1800. If that was the price, I would be there.

Believe it or not, PSLs would be a GOOD thing. They're like money in the bank, appreciating in value over time. You can sell them at a profit if you want, and they also keep ticket prices down. As a PSL holder you also can re-sell your tickets without penalty. I wish Kraft had gone that route initially, they would've been a worthwhile investment.

I remember for either the 03 or 04 Super Bowl (or maybe both), in addition to shutting out most of the non-club/luxury season ticket holders, the Patriots also offered really expensive Super Bowl packages w/tickets on their website. Since we know they hook up the club/luxury seat holders this means the Patriots pulled tickets out of the lottery pool and resold them for way beyond face value as part of a travel package. I'm guessing something similar happens this time around. Nothing any of us can do about it, but it sucks.

Not going to happen, the fact of the matter is many club seat and luxury box holder tickets are not owned so the owner can watch the game. They are owned by corporations that give the tickets away to curry favor with huge customers. Some times those same customers give then give the tickets to their biggest customers to curry favor. If that person thens sells the ticket you would stop the original owner from buying club seat tickets the next year?

If club and luxury box holder were held to the same standard then Kraft would have an empty club house and luxury boxes.

That is the economic reality.

If you are pissed off enough about the policy you have only one real recourse. Don't buy tickets next year. The wait list will thank you for your protest and boycott.

Yea I do not know one season ticket holder that won this year in the "lottery" but I will tell you I was just offered 2 tickets to the super bowl from a club seat holder,take a guess how much??? 4 GRAND apiece what a loser,I still say if you win or get them you should BE reguired to pick them up at the venue,that would prevent the "pigs" from gouging the faithful,sb 39 we got our 4 seats from ebay and paid 1700 apiece which believe it or not I considered fair market value and would be happy to do the same this year but give me a break 4 K each.Check out this in today's herald

Where are you seeing tickets for $2,000? That's a good deal on the secondary market. The last time I looked the least expensive seats were $3,100.

Thanks for the wonderful economics lesson. It pretty much goes without saying that the process you describe is current reality. I don't know what remedy might be possible, but Kraft could at least advise as a matter of team policy that scalping of any tickets -- including Super Bowl tickets -- is frowned upon by the organization, and may be grounds for "penalty" of some sort. Obviously some creative thought would have to be applied to what really is an untenable situation.

I've been watching on ebay today and prices are dropping pretty severely. It's down to about $4600 for "get in" upper end zones and $6000 for lower level end zones. The more reliable the seller, the greater the price. Also, those who actually have tickets in hand and ready to ship get a premium. But here's the latest contested bid (as opposed to buy it now) auction to close for "get in" seats:

Tickets were in excess of $6,000 for a pair jut a couple of days ago, so the trend right now is clearly down.

I hope this doesn't violate this forum's rules. It's a completed auction, so it's no longer for sale. And, to be clear, I don't have anything to do with any of these auctions and I'm just posting this for information purposes. Buyer beware for super bowl tix -- there are lots of reports of unscrupulous stuff.

Even if you had to pick them up at the event it wouldn't be possible to keep them from selling them. You can't force people to pick them up right before the game, because of the logistics involved, so at a minimum they would be able to pick them up days before the event. Sell them on Ebay fly to Phoenix pick up the tickets and meet the buyer, get your money and fly home. Don't you think they would fly to Phoenix for a day, if it meant a $7000 profit off of the tickets?

It's the way of the football world unfortunately. I figure the money I'd spend (assuming I won the lottery for tix) going out there, eating, lodging, flight etc., I can afford about 2 years worth of my season tix. That plus with my luck I'd be sitting next to some ahole Giants fan, get in a fight and miss the damn game anyway . Now I can go to a SB party get in a fight and miss the damn game without spending all the money.

It is something called supply and demand. There are not a lot of hotels in the area. There are a lot of rich people wanting hotel space.
