Like I said, I had to laugh at Pats fans with the nerve to moan about calls they claim the Colts and Steelers got (ESPECIALLY Super Bowl XL) because NO team has benefitted from ref charity like New England.

You all laughed and challenged me to give proof -- well there it was Sunday, in the form of the MOST OBVIOUS NON-CALL IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL.

Though I shouldn't even have to name it (being so obvious) let's just say what Vrabel got away with in full view of the refs is BEYOND ridiculous.

Some of you more honest types have even admitted Vrabel should've been nailed for tripping, but shrugged it off as "oh well that's the way it goes." Funny you didn't take that attitude with other teams -- no this place was a madhouse of moaning and indignation after certain games involving OTHER teams (ESPECIALLY Super Bowl XL). Well, boys and girls, nothing that happened in those games even comes CLOSE to the Vrabel non-call. C'mon where's all the righteous indignation and concern for the integrity of the game now? (Oh right, this time your guys benefitted, so none of that stuff really matters.)

Instead of San Diego getting an automatic first down and driving, the Pats (wrongly) get the ball on a pick and then score -- this is the single BIGGEST play of the game, and it was BOGUS. No way Vrabel should've gotten away with that kind of garbage. And I repeat, this was the single BIGGEST determination of who won this game. At the very least, that's 7 off the board for New England, and probably at least 3 for San Diego. Final score was 21-12; you do the math.

You wanted your proof? You got it. Go ahead and argue -- I dare you.

Well, if you'd do a forum search you'd find out that most of the people here thought the Vrable got away with a leg whip.

Nice try, troll.

Jake, you should have got out of the ring before the punch drunkeness kicked in

I think no team has the right to complain but we can comment on some of the calls, this isn't a Don King dictatorship yet is it?

leg whip is such a strong word....could we call it a leg flip please

Re: Like I said, Pats fans should NEVER complain about other teams getting ref charit

A Jets fan - isn't that cute. After the Indy debacles last year and this, we still have about 3 more egregious calls coming to us in our favor.

Re: Like I said, Pats fans should NEVER complain about other teams getting ref charit

We got away with one, big deal. It happens. We won, they lost.

Yes and I acknowledged the fact that some people recognized the truth -- wish you'd read more carefully -- so please, enough with the tired old "troll" ploy. The point was, even those who admitted he got away with it still shrugged it off as nothing -- quite a difference from the way you all reacted when you thought OTHER teams got the ref charity.

The bigger point -- I was challenged here to show proof of my claim that no teams gets calls like the Pats. Well hoot! there it is! For all to see (except the refs for some strange reason) this past Sunday.

ONE? Are you kidding? Ha ha ha ha!

One? Oh man.

You claim no team gets more calls than us and then give ONE example ? Do you not understand singular (one example) vs. plural (calls) ?

I GUARANTEE you the Colts get more calls than the Patriots.

It was one call, most acknowledged the Refs missed it, but it was hardly the biggest oversight in history, as you intimated. Even the best refs will miss penalties every now and then, they're human and their eyes can't be everywhere at once. Watching replays in hindsight is a lot different than seeing the game live at field level.

I think what people get more upset about (and rightly so) is when refs pull calls seemingly out of nowhere, which mostly occurs on ticky-tack contact downfield which ends up in humongous 40 yard penalties. Every team benefits from these from time to time, and the perception (fair or unfair, and probably the latter) is that the Colts are the largest beneficiary of this.

Really, you think that was a leg whip? :singing:

See you in Arizona turd.......... Oh yeah, your not going. We'll send a postcard.

I GUARANTEE you the Colts get more calls than the Patriots.

Listen -- I'm not singling out the Pats as the only team to ever get ref charity. My point was, Pats fans, of all fans, shouldn't be talking about other teams getting calls, because they have no room to talk.

There's a very simple way to correct this, and we'll all be done with it. Nothing big -- each and every poster here who whined about Super Bowl XL can issue an apology, or a retraction if you will. Maybe start an official "I was wrong to complain about the Steelers getting the benefit of the calls in Super Bowl XL" thread (for guys like Da Bruinz) where you admit now how silly you were back then. Then maybe throw in something about the Colts and their games too.

A simple (and easy!) solution to the whole situation. You'll feel better too.

No hyperbole there at all.

The Steelers did get the benefit of calls in Super Bowl XL. That's not really up for debate. What you're saying is that people are hypocrites because the Pats also get the benefit of questionable calls from time to time. While maybe you're right in some cases, EVERY team benefits from calls that go their way. It doesn't make the statement "The Steelers Were The Beneficiary of Bogus Calls in Super Bowl XL" any less true, does it?

It's the Colts. Of course it's fair. ;)

Seriously, though, it does seem awfully suspicious when the Colts get a lot of PI calls that go their way, and almost never get called on it themselves (remember the only time they called it @ Indy?); in fact, there was one season where their D went wire to wire without a PI call, and I don't think it's because they never interfere. . . .

Look at this part of your argument, the Pats get the ball on a pick. A PICK,
did the refs throw that ball?
Look, watch any game at any time and you'll see non calls, bad calls and the right calls.
I for one never buy into this theory that the Refs are intenionally making non or bad calls. And if you put the same amount of energy in non calls the pats get, try looking into the bogus calls thay have gotten over the season. It all equals out in the end. Refs are human (or close anyway) and if you want my opinion, they aren't always very good and they miss things.
Relax will ya Jake, your going to have a heart attack.

Re: Like I said, Pats fans should NEVER complain about other teams getting ref charit

Who is this fool?

The Patriots have been the dominant team in the league since 2001, playing over 120 games, and your example of how the Patriots get all the calls is one half hearted extended leg by Mike Vrabel? Are you friggin' kidding me?

Can somebody please post the You Tube video of this play, so we can all laugh at this clown?

If you really think this play deserved a call, in a playoff game, I'm calling you a liar.

You're right in that it's somewhat of a culture there. I remember commenting to a friend during the Bolts-Colts game about the reaction of the Colts fans when opposing DBs AREN'T flagged for PI. Every time Manning chucks it deep, if it's not caught and there was a defender in the general area, the fans there seem deeply insulted that there's no yellow on the field. However, this is true everywhere to a certain extent. The problem is that fans who are AT the games really have no idea what the correct call is, that's why they still boo when an OBVIOUS call is overturned or upheld in favor of the visitors (doesn't hurt that most stadiums only show it on the Jumbotron if it favors the hometeam). Does seem sometimes like Colts fans are worse about this though, likely because they're so used to opponents drawing flags.
