Re: Jeffri Chadiha:patriots feeling weight of history they are chasing

Earlier in the season, they were beating bad teams in good weather, later in the season, they were beating good (and highly motivated) teams in bad weather. As Al Davis once said, "Just Win Baby!" That's all that counts.

O agree..and so what is his point?? That because the Giants are playing with momentum they will win?? I LOVE that the media idiots seem to think that last game was ALL teh Pats had...it was a vanilla game..no wrinkles until the end..give BB and company two weks and see what kind of plan will rip the Giants to shreds... Eki has played good...but wait till he faces some confusion on teh D and see how good he is.

He's a thoughtful fella:

"The irony here isn't just that keeping Branch would have emboldened that chemistry or given the Patriots a receiver who has produced more receptions and yards than Moss has generated over the past two seasons. It's that when you combine New England's decision to trade him to Seattle with the team's current offseason spending spree, you can imagine New England eventually suffering through the kind of disharmony that eventually undermines a team's goals."

A final thought:

"Because even now, it's still blatantly clear that the best receiver for their offense, for a number of reasons, is now catching passes in Seattle."

It's a tough game to predict.....even in hindsight.

Message to Jeffrey Chadiha: They're playing in a DOME with two weeks rest on February 3. The more you write, Jeffrey, the dumber you're going to look.

What the hell is he talking about explain to me how a guy who has battled injuries for the last 2 years is better for us than a guy who just broke the NFL single season TD. Hey JC stop smoking crack man its effecting your brain

Actually he wrote it last Spring.....and I think it's fair to ask the questions he does but he never concedes to what may happen for the Pats if things do work out.....only the negatives.

thank you for that clarification, didnt realize it was earlier this year. Yes I agree you can ask those questions. I couldnt open the link for some reason and assumed this was a new piece

Re: Jeffri Chadiha:patriots feeling weight of history they are chasing

Thing is you could recycle Jeffrey's piece to reflect the Giants feeling the weight of opportunity...maybe he will next week when he's again asked to fill space...

"There certainly aren't many reasons to question the NEP chances of beating the NYG in Super Bowl XLII.

Focus, however, should not be anywhere on that list.

It's actually hard to see the NEP losing sight of anything these days. No team has been more dialed in than the NEP over the last eighteen weeks...
The Giants, on the other hand, have won three straight playoff games on the road. You don't do EITHER unless your head is in the right place.

The NEP have beaten the odds every weekend, whether it was slaying an undeteated Dallas team that was supposedly America's team once again, an undefeated Colts team who were the defending champs and reportedly had their number, or the late surging Jacksonville Jaguars who were the team nobody wanted to face. Now that they're facing the same NYG team that they beat in the regular-season finale, the odds favor NE bringing that same single-minded mentality to Arizona for a week when the Giants will be hearing not only all about the greatness of their opponent, but what it would mean to knock them off (oh wait, they already heard that... ).

"All I can say is that we weren't scared of them the first time we lost to them," Toomer said. "And they knew that when that game was over and they still won."

The first Patriots game of the season obviously has become the genesis of everything that has gone right for NE over the last EIGHTEEN weeks.
From the moment BB opened that week of practice with a matter-of-fact proclamation -- "Just do your job FOR 60 MINUTES," he said during a team meeting that week -- the NEP adopted a sense of purpose that they haven't lost yet.

So far, that's been the major difference in NE. The PATS now approach every game with the same hunger and determination... "If we approached every practice, meeting and game with the same intensity we had that week, we knew we could get to this point." Said <fill in the Patriots player blank>.

Of course, now the Giants have to deal with a challenge that will be infinitely greater than the one New England offered back on Dec. 29. The Patriots haven't lost a Super Bowl in the three times they've reached that game under coach Bill Belichick. They also have strength in numbers. While Toomer and Strahan represent all of the Giants' Super Bowl experience, the Patriots boast 21 players who have played on a team that has advanced to that game. That's a hell of an advantage in a contest of this magnitude.

And let's also be candid here: The GIANTS haven't been winning in the same impressive fashion that had been their trademark earlier this post season when they throttled the anemic Bucs.

They literally labored to beat the self distructing Cowboys and a Packers team determined to throw their shot away, and they definitely look more like a team that is feeling the weight of the opportunity they're chasing. Meanwhile, the NEP have grown more comfortable with their undefeated status each week because it is what it is and they are finally down to winning one game at a time, which is the hallmark of their dynasty.

This is why the Patriots have become so un-intriguing... Theworst thing that happened to the NYG this year is that the NEP already had a great opportunity to see what it takes to beat the best effort of the best team in the NFC. It doesn't come down to good breaks or spectacular plays. It really amounts to attitude and execution, which are the two qualities that New England has displayed every week of this season.

So now that the we all understand that, this Super Bowl officially has a chance to be an exciting contest, or not. That's because the first time these two teams met, the Patriots were the ones who had everything to play for while the Giants had nothing to lose. But one week of practice and one closely fought game in late December has changed that for the Giants.

In other words, the Patriots should be bracing for a vastly different opponent when these two teams meet again. Although, that being the case, so too should the Giants who clearly did not experience the best the NEP have to offer and still lost..."

Have I filled my colum space yet 'cause I'm getting a headache coming up with this drivel...when we all know at the end of the day I have no real clue what I'm babbling about where either of these teams are concerned...

Re: Jeffri Chadiha:patriots feeling weight of history they are chasing

Even if they are feeling the weight of it (and I'd have to believe there must be at least a few who are), it hasn't stopped them from winning games. And not just winning games in the same way they were winning them earlier this season, but finding new ways to win them.

People started talking about an undefeated season for the Pats ridiculously early this year, earlier than I can ever remember, so in one way or another they've been dealing with it all season.

So with that in mind, I think they can handle the weight.

Re: Jeffri Chadiha:patriots feeling weight of history they are chasing

This is a very popular refrain. They won by 9, didn't beat the spread, and that is why everyone clings to this.

Here's why it is funny, if the Pats win by 16 over SD, they come in off a 3 score W and no one is saying they weren't dominating.

Why didn't they win by 16? Because they chose not to. They decided to run out the clock and not score on their last drive. There is no doubt that had the Pats wanted a TD there, SD was powerless to stop them.

Good point. Taking it further, why would BB want to score again when he could just run out the clock and keep the game close while still winning? I promise you he doesn't care about the spread, but I bet you he does love two weeks of media drivel about how the Pats are vulnerable. Maybe even some "LOOK OUT, THESE GIANTS ARE THE TEAM THAT CAN DO IT" pieces (similar to the Jags game), and let the Giants players build up some overconfidence? I'm sure if BB had planned it out, that's just how he would draw it up.

They could have easily covered the spreads in both playoff games. But smartly, Belichick took the 100% chance of winning by 9, and the 99% chance of winning by 11 against Jax, instead of pressing the issue in both games and winning by 16 and 18 (or maybe 14), but also giving those teams a small window to win.

Were it not for Welker's drop, Gosty's missed chippy, and McD's decision not to have Maroney on the field on 3rd and goal from the 2, both of those games would have looked like routs.

Re: Jeffri Chadiha:patriots feeling weight of history they are chasing

I think the players have absolutely been feeling the weight of the expectations for a while, there was an interview with one a couple of days ago where he said as much. (Can't remember the details unfortunately, I am in Pats information overload right now. :) )

But they can handle it, and the Giants no longer have "nothing to lose" like they did in week 17, so it cancels out better than it has before now.

Re: Jeffri Chadiha:patriots feeling weight of history they are chasing

In NE's last three games they had two-score leads in the 4th and the games were not in doubt. The Giants scored a late TD to make the final score closer. In the SD game NE ran out a lot of time at the end of the game with a two-score lead. I don't understand how these wins are characterized as unimpressive.

I realize they beat crappy teams by 20+ points every week early on, but these are the playoffs. Isn't winning comfortably enough?

Re: Jeffri Chadiha:patriots feeling weight of history they are chasing

Some think that Brady was guilty of record chasing in the game against the Giants - that may be so as he was often forcing passes to Moss.

Speaking of Moss - I find it interesting that the Giants did not double team him at all times - and that wound up hurting them in the end - but overall that scheme of double teaming Welker at times and Moss at others, might have some benefit.

I suspect we'll see that again - but that Brady and BB will be more than ready for it.

If this is the same article, he's obviously a Special Olympian. Nevertheless, they are carrying and dealing successfully with, a great deal of pressure.

Just saying he has a point, but he doesn't seem to knowwhat to do with it.

2 weeks off, goal in sight, no human team will stop them, IMO.

And games are very easy to predict in hindsight. Good way to bet, too.

EDIT: One good, but misinterpreted point in the first article. the branch article isn't even good for toilet paper.

Yes, they struggled under immense pressure, but they overcame it.

2 weeks off, 1 game to win. There's simply no one better in that situation.

He forced a lot in the Miami game too. Funny how he hasn't forced any in the playoffs and has had some wide open receivers and 2 wins.

26 for 28? Coincidence?
