Unlike the "blueprint" so many people speak of in regards to beating the Patriots - which is actully just a "blueprint" on how to lose to the Pats by 3 points - there might be some common threads to take away from the Giants Six regular season losses.

Others feel free to analyze and add to this... I'm not taking a real in depth look here but I'm seeing a lot of 2nd half adjustments where good offensive teams were able to pull away.

My first gut reaction is to focus less on our defense as the difference maker... I think the Giants have the WR matchups to score some points on us - but on our offensive adjustments that will allow us to score enough points to pull away over the course of the game

Here's the recaps of the Giants Six regular season:

Week 1 - Loss to the Cowboys... 1 point game at halftime... Cowboys with big catches from TO pull away:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=270909006

Week 2 - Loss to Green Bay... another close game through 3 quarters... then the Giants Defense gives up big 4th quarter points:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=270916019

The Giants then put together a string of 6 victories against NFL Juggernauts like the Dolphins, Jets, Falcons, 49ers, Eagles and Redskins... then, following the bye week with two weeks to prepare they faced...

Week 10 - Loss to the Cowboys...once again, tied at halftime... with the Cowboys riding their big WR to pull away in the 2nd half:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=271111019

Week 12 - Blowout loss to the Vikings 41-17 (and it wasn't as close as the score makes it look)... 4 INTs for Manning - 3 returned for TDs... just a bad game for Manning? Or is the Vikings "disguising of their pressure packages" mixing zone and man blitz do the trick?:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=271125019

Week 15 - Loss to the Redskins 22-10, again not as close as the score indicates.... but in very windy conditions, the thing I take away from this game is that if one eliminates Burress as a factor, the Giants have a very tough time:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=271216019

And of course Week 16.... I'll let you draw your own conclusions... vanilla offense? A rope a dope not to give away playoff insights? 2nd half adjustments are once again. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=271229019

Interested in the thoughts of others.... but it seems to me that all the better opponents of the Giants are able to make significant 2nd half adjustments to secure a win... whereas the Giants themselves don't seem to be able to adjust to those adjustments.

I can see us using the same medicine on Plastico as others are using on Moss. Use press coverage, and over the top Safety help to have Rodney knock his ass evertime he catches something.

1. Shut the run,
2. double Plasticoand make fELIne find other targets to beat us..........who is left ? Stone hands Toomer ? Ahmad Bradshaw ? The problem has been that fELIne has had a run game and dumbed down passing gameplan which allows for him to make safe passes.
3. Mix it up....Go 3-4, and 4-3 to disguise coverages.
4. Force the issue to make him pass, and on a big stage like SB, he is bound to make mistakes.
5. PASS RUSH.

I could see us employing similar D as we did against Jacksonville

BB mantra is pretty simple on D........take away what you do best, and make you force the issue. On offense he will want it to be a shootout. We have the horses to attack via longball or middle(via Welker & Watson), swing/screens with Faulk or run with Lomo, and they have basically Jacobs and Plastico.

My 2 cents

Just bumping this up as it got bumped down by the threads of the 14 year old troll who visited us this evening...

Very useful ... helpful ... reprise.

Lucky for the Jints that BB would never stoop to
"disguising their pressure packages ... mixing zone and man blitz."
Otherwise they might falter again.

Then again, the Patriots simply may not be as good as the Vikings.

"Or is the Vikings "disguising of their pressure packages" mixing zone and man blitz do the trick?:"

I think you're hitting on a point I believe to be a key to this up coming game.
I believe PATs will get a lot more pressure on Manning this time. He just had
too much time in week 16. How is the question.
With much of the work done I think BB will spend extra time to find
ways to get to him. Week 16 tape should be very helpful. I don't see
Giants changing their offense much. Too risky at this late date. There will
be some plays for the SB but I bet they don't risk making major changes
on Offense.

Well I think the key is getting pressure on Manning while still having a CB and S on Plastico.

That can certainly be done - it's just that the focus will be more on flustering and confusing him and putting pressure on him even though it might not result in sacks, it can still force him to make mistakes.

Right.

But the REAL key is doing all that while being stout against the run. So it comes down to the push from the center of the DL. That does double-duty against run and pass.

I don't think the 4-3 is the answer. Seymour, Wilfork, and Warren just have to play big.

I agree but I think mixing it up (switching to a 4-3) can only help keep Manning 'off balance/ guessing' as to what's coming: blitz / zone blitz / safety in box / etc...

but I'm not Coach B!
