my first trip to foxboro

Well, I'm back in frigid Winnipeg after taking in my second ever Pats game and first in Foxboro. What a great trip!

Boston is a beautiful city. My wife and I had a chance to walk around downtown on Saturday night and take it all in.

We opted to take the train to the game, which arrived there about 1/2 hour before the game. It barely gave us enough time to find our tix (we bought them on ebay) and get to our seats. By the time we got to our seats, we had missed the first 3 minutes. But it was all gravy from there.

I dont understand how people say that the stadium is quiet. I thought it was rocking! The fans around us were great and it was an awesome feeling cheering with the home crowd. There aren't alot of Pats fans up here.

I was in awe looking down and seeing Tom Brady (although it wasnt his greatest performance), Moss, Welker, etc, etc. Maroney was a complete beast and despite my concerns earlier in the year, He is transforming himself into one heck of a RB.

We wrapped up Sunday by taking in the Giants game at Cheers. There were charger fans, colts fans, packer fans and giants fans watching there as well and made for some great convesation.

The only downside was not getting much sleep on Saturday night. It sounded like someone was filming a p*rn flick in the room next to us in the hotel. Geez, some guys have some stamina. And dont need alot of sleep apparently.

What an awesome roadtrip! You guys in the New England area are a fortunate bunch.

Cool! Sounds like you had a great trip, well, sans the lack of sleep part. Compared to Winnepeg it mustn't have felt too cold.

The stadium does take on a different atmosphere come playoff time and when the weather is less than ideal. Nobody sat during the playoff games, but during the season you get a lot of folks whining when you stand, whining when you yell, whining when you throw...just kidding there. If it were a regular season game those red seaters would have been inside where it's warm.

Great story. It's a shame you didn't find a "real" bar for watching the game though. The Bull and Finch used to be a great local bar when I lived up the street on Beacon Hill, but started going tourist in the mid eighties with the popularity of the TV show. My buddies and I used to make it our "starting point" for a Friday night of bar hopping. Got "lucky" there a few times...aw, now I'm getting all nostalgic.

im glad you had a good time but the last place you want to live is in massachusetts .unless you want to pay a half a million dollars for a house .i could go on but i wont.

Run of the mill regular season games can be quiet, the one I went to in 2002 was brutally quiet. The other problem is the mikes at Gillette - watching on TV the crowd sounded really quiet but all the reports say the exact opposite.

I flew in from Tampa for the game and I forgot just how bitterly cold Boston can get. It wasn't that bad at 20 degrees, I remember a lot worse from when I grew up there. I guess my blood has turned to shyt living down here. I had enough layers on to repel most of it but my toes were still freezing even with 2 pairs of socks on, LOL.

I was amazed how everyone stood the entire game and it how loud it was. The crowd was really good, it was an amazing experience.

I took that commuter rail last time and was late to the game as well, it sucks. This time I didn't want to miss the ceremony at the end so I rented a car and drove. Even with the traffic at the end it was worth it to see the players celebrating.

I had a pair of cotton socks with Woollies over top and my toes were just fine. We were dressed for the occasion. Coming from Winnipeg, which is colder than Green Bay(we are at -9F right now, -22F with the windchill), we were prepared for it. The weather was quite pleasant actually.

For future reference I saw some Under Armour Cold Gear ski socks on the internet. They were made with something called olefin as well as wool, nylon and spandex. Do those work well? Do you need to double up on them?

I got some UA gloves that were skinny as shyt. I had a pair of leather gloves with the UA ones over them and my hands were cold. Then I put on just the UA gloves and I was fine, so I threw the leather ones out LOL.

I grabbed a pair of hand warmers, held them outside the gloves, and my hands were warm the entire game.

The best and cheapest way to do it is hand and toe warmers IMO.

Ohh by toe warmers you mean those little packets? I had some of those but I was so stiff with all the layers I couldn't find the time or space to get my shoes off and shove them in there. I just stuck them around my ankles and they did help somewhat.

I had 2 turtlenecks, a hooded sweatshirt and a windbreaker on with a bunch of crap in my pockets. I felt like on of those kids from South Park, I think if someone pushed me I would have toppled over.
