In this morning's top stories:

  • The sun rose
  • We're still in Iraq
  • Oil and water still don't mix and ...
  • Mercury Morris is still a classless bowel movement
Did anyone hear him on Mike and Mike in the Morning just now? This was his first appearance on the show since the infamous, "don't call me when they're in my town" comment.

Now he says that IF the Patriots win the Super Bowl and go undefeated, he will "welcome them to his neighborhood as the SECOND best team in NFL history."

Sheesh. What a clod.

That's funny, because he was on the PFW online radio show (patriots.com) and seemed much more gracious (crazy-talkative, but gracious). He made a funny comment keeping up the "neighborhood" metaphor about the Pats coming to his house and him offering a plate of cookies that he'd kept inhis freezer for 35 years, but they were still good.

Guess it depends on whom he talks to. I'd be happy if I were him: two more weeks of interviews. Plus, if the Pats can win, he can horn in on what it was like to be the first undefeated champion. Otherwise, I think fans might lose interest in Miami's story, no matter what his ego tells him.

Mercury Morris Announces namechange

He has officially announced that if the Pats finish SB 19-0 he will change his name to URANUS Morris.

Less than 2 weeks until him and his nursing home residing "boyz" from '72 Doofins are made irrelevant.

It will be the Patriot Dynasty that will be the benchmark for success for future NFL teams

Finally, a funny Pats fan:D

He's desperately trying to cling to his fading fame.

I don't know what people expect from him. Do you really think he's going to just start calling this Patriots team the best ever? If you do, you're high. Just as the Patriots won't automatically concede the 'best ever' title to a team that wins one more game in the near future if/when the league adds a 17th regular season game to the schedule.

Let's see, how about:

"If the Patriots go undefeated, I will congratulate them on their amazing accomplishment and welcome them to the undefeated club. I think it is probably even more difficult to go undefeated in this era then when we did it, due to the longer season, free agency and the salary cap. I know that something which hasn't been done in 35 years is an amazing accomplishment, just as it was when we did it. In any case, the Patriots deserve congratulations."

There is no need for him to continue to insist that it is a record which can never be broken, only tied (debatable), that they are a better team because they did it first, and that free agency helped the Patriots because they got Randy Moss and Wes Welker via it (not only false, but irrelevant - there is general agreement that it is much harder to build a dominant team in this era.)

Mercury: The calls are coming from inside your house! Run!

The undefeated '72 Miami Dolphins are rightfully proud of their status and consider themselves the greatest team in NFL history, and they'll defend that belief. Unlike fans who have nothing better to do than complain about every perceived slight, these players have a legitimate stake in this. They actually played the games.

I may not agree with Morris, but I understand his position. Take off the homer glasses and the artificial chip on your shoulder and you'll understand his position too.

* Mercury Morris. **Neighborhood *** cookies

*Denotes heavy crack coccaine use,

** Denotes ramshackled sheds made up of old tires, milk crates, and bits of flotsum and jetsum.

*** I don't think so. ( one to many "o"s)

Awesome! Good thing I wasn't drinking my coffee when I read that. I'm still laughing at that.

Can you not make an argument without adopting the infantile tactic of attempting ridicule the other party? "homer glasses"? "artificial chip on your shoulder"? In your previous post you claimed that "anybody who [thinks that] is high". Grow up.

Now back to the actual debate - where did I ever say the 72 Dolphins shouldn't be proud of what they did? Do you not think it is possible to be proud of an accomplishment without diminishing someone else's? Actually, you probably do believe that - it seems to fit your maturity level.

I don't think the Pats will be moving into the 1972 Dolphins' neighborhood. The assisted-living apartments are too small and they all smell like cat pee. I heard that the weekly Wii bowling tournaments are quite a hoot though.

Don't sleep on Wii bowling. It's freakin' awesome.

P.S. Morris is insane.

He is a moron. What the hell is 1000%? Is it more than 100%? He needs to be on a methadone plan. Then go back to school and learn math.

3 minutes and 30 seconds.... all that is left of Mercury Morris's 15 minutes of fame

Pot/kettle...

Couldn't you have made an argument without calling Mercury Morris a clod? How's life over on hypocrisy lane, oh arbiter of maturity?

As for the debate, how does his saying New England would be the second best team in NFL history diminish New England's accomplishments? Even if New England wins the Super Bowl, there will be people who will honestly argue that the Bears were better, there will be those who argue that the 49ers were better, and there will be those who'll argue that the Dolphins were better. Your insult of Morris was undeserved based upon the quote you were commenting on, and, to use your choice of words, seems to fit your maturity level. Grow up, yourself.

You don't see the difference between making an editorial comment about a public figure and directly attacking someone you are speaking with? Of course you don't. Too subtle. Who are you anyway, Mercury Morris's pusher?

Ahhh.... and more of that 'maturity' you were talking about comes to light.

I do see a difference. I had the balls to call you out knowing that you could respond. You called out someone who's not going to be defending himself, and you called him out on something that was not even wrong of him to say. Nobody is required to bow at the altar of 19-0, just as people haven't been required to concede the 'best ever' title to the Dolphins up until now just because they went 17-0. New England is striving to become the second undefeated team in NFL history. That doesn't automatically make them the best team ever.

Your post that started the thread was a silly attack without any legitimate provocation. You got called on it. That's what message boards are for. And, by the way, the last time I checked, Homer wasn't exactly a word on the 'cuss' list.
