Someone please post either the vid or the pics.
Here are some pics I quickly made. Sorry about the poor formatting but I am not going to bother aligning everything.

I am not bashing anyone here just calling things as I see 'em... IMHO there's no shame in admitting there should have been a flag on the play...

Thanks for posting the clip Obi Wan.

I don't think it's a reach to say that looked incidental.
Mike fell in to a forward slide and his legs were going that way.

BTW I thought it was pretty impressive of Rivers in the first place.
He faked Mike out when he stepped up.
That's why Mike fell.

Did Rivers even fall on the play?

If you watch the video of the overhead view, you'll see it doesn't look accidental. Looked like a kick. And yes, Rivers ended up on his stomach.

does it matter that vrabel was on the ground? Or doesn't it matter.

The only thing that would influence this non-call would be if someone blocked Vrabel in a manner that spun him around and his leg naturally spun into Rivers. If he was blocked into Rivers, Vrabel does NOT have to take action to keep his leg from hitting Rivers either. Basically, if his leg being extended hits Rivers due to the block on him, he is not required to take action to prevent his leg from hitting Rivers legs. If there was no intentional act on Vrabel's part, there is no penalty, period.

Therefore, the ref's would have to prove intent on Vrabels part and we all know this is impossible.

I saw "vrabel trip" and I thought "YEAH! CANCUN, CHICKS, DISTRACTION......GIANTS VICTORY". ...no dice.

I thought Charles Bronson was the last guy to use "No dice" and mean it. :D

It's illegal to trip the ball carrier? I guess you learn something every day.

Its illegal to use a LEG WHIP to try and bring down the ball carrier, in this case, the QB. Also, Rivers was in the act of throwing, not running.

umm, vrabel fell down and grabbed rivers leg with his hand, and tripped him...

which made rivers not throw such a good ball, which ended up in asante's hands...

vrabel defenetely affected the play, but it was legal as well...u can try and sack the QB any way u want...even tripping....and it was with the hands form wut i recall...

Wrong play man.

Someone please post either the vid or the pics. My Tivo deleted the recording. I know a lot of people on the charger forum was wondering why no one was talking about it so I want to know what all the fuss was about. Plus, the Pats have had some bad calls against them in the past but it goes to another level as a Charger fan. Did anyone see the Indy game? god, the refs wanted Indy to win that game so bad! We kept fighting and were the better team. Overall, I seen some missed calls but I thought it was a fairly called game. i just wanna see this leg whip some are talking about.

I actually mentioned it in the Game thread when it happened.

Yeah, I know. I just missed the actual leg-whip part when I watched the game.

One possible reason it wasn't called is because the motion of the blocker as he spun pushed him towards Rivers. So he was partially blocked into Rivers. But he definitely extended his leg into Rivers as he went by.

Sorry, but that's homerish garbage. I'm a huge Pats fan and even I know that's not what happened. Vrabel went down and threw his leg out there in an attempt to take Rivers down. Its a clear leg whip and totally illegal.

Whatever it was, I didn't like it. I hope Vrabel didn't do it intentionally, but if he did, he deserves a fine.

I still like him.. anyone can have a bad moment. It is not exclusive to one team or another.

Vrabel got away with a trip that may or may not have affected how Rivers threw and whether it was going to be intercepted or not (in my opinion he may not have thrown an INT if not for the trip). That's it. What are we supposed to do about it now? We would have most likely won the game anyway. Every game has a bunch of plays that the refs miss, this one included. Rivers didn't fall down so I think it was just missed as were a few calls against the Chargers. The officiating in this game was clearly going to be hands off from the start, and I don't think either team got the brunt of more bad or non-calls than the other.

He was blocked into Rivers, so that in itself makes the act questionable.

common he clearly stuck his leg out when he was on the ground. Let's not kid ourselves. Wilfork was blocked into J.P. Losman though.

Watch the replay (nfl.com highlights). Rivers does fall down.

IMO, it was an intentional leg whip.

I hope we can all agree that a hands-off game from the officials is so much better than what happened in so many big games this year.

As said, in games like that, things will be missed.

sometimes. I felt that it hurt us until the end of the game in the Ravens game though because they were mugging our receivers.

I said it was intentional, but I don't remember Rivers falling down afterwards.

Vrabel is a Hall of Famer. I don't care if he just made his first Pro Bowl. NE players never get the stats. He is a monster pass rusher and then the next play he is deep in coverage....not to mention all the TDs...and a handful of rings...

If he tripped anyone, it must have been accidental or legal.

Let's hear it for Mike!!!
