I'm surprised this hasn't gotten much attention, but that was a miss by the refs that led to a big turnover. I understand refs miss calls here and there and things usually even out, but I thought it was illegal to trip.

Just somewhat surprised the talking heads didn't cover it during the post game analysis.

But big props to Vrabel this year, he has been crazy good on the pass rush.

I need to take a look at the play again, but I don't think vrabel's trip had a lot to do with the interception, Rivers still threw the pass on target to I think it was Chambers? who was actually in a better position to make the reception, Asante just made a really good play.

It is, and he got away with one. It didn't affect the throw but it still should have been called. Overall I'd say the refs had a "let 'em play" approach to yesterday's game; very few penalties.

I can't tell if any of the refs saw it or not, but it looked like a gray area call to me (i.e., was it intentional?). Then again, after some of the cr*p calls that have gone against NE over the years (remember the "roughing the passer" call when some QB ran into Wilfork?), I'm inclined to call it karma evening up the balance.

It's illegal to trip the ball carrier? I guess you learn something every day.

Anyone else read the thread title and think Vrabel was headed to Cabo during the off week? No, just me then?

I blame the media.

I am sure the refs saw it because someone is always watching the QB. It did have an effect on the play even if it was just Rivers knowing he was there....with his gimpy legs he was no doubt real conscience of it. To me (only one look) it looked like he got spun around and it wasn't intentional. He also didn't trip him,,,if they were to call anything it would have been a leg whip.

It absolutely had an effect on the throw. Rivers threw the ball as he was falling down, and why was he falling down? Because he was tripped.

Did I flat-out miss something? Did Vrabel leg-whip Rivers on one of the picks? Which one? I'll watch the replay tonight.

does it matter that vrabel was on the ground? Or doesn't it matter.

umm, vrabel fell down and grabbed rivers leg with his hand, and tripped him...

which made rivers not throw such a good ball, which ended up in asante's hands...

vrabel defenetely affected the play, but it was legal as well...u can try and sack the QB any way u want...even tripping....and it was with the hands form wut i recall...

it'd be helpful if someone (weswelker#83) could get some screen caps of this.

Vrabel did trip Rivers and he got away with one, but lets not forget that O Linemen try to hold the D Line when ever they can. So let's not make a big deal out of it. I'm sure the Merriman would have tried to do the samething to Brady

You may want to look at your DVR, Vrabel blew by the tackle with a spin move and lost his balance. He fell down and after he hit the ground stuck out his leg and it did imapct the throw. Totally illegal play, I agree with 'Obi-Wan' that the Pats got away with one. We have a lot of BS calls go against us in the past, I am not going to lose and sleep.

Someone please post either the vid or the pics. My Tivo deleted the recording. I know a lot of people on the charger forum was wondering why no one was talking about it so I want to know what all the fuss was about. Plus, the Pats have had some bad calls against them in the past but it goes to another level as a Charger fan. Did anyone see the Indy game? god, the refs wanted Indy to win that game so bad! We kept fighting and were the better team. Overall, I seen some missed calls but I thought it was a fairly called game. i just wanna see this leg whip some are talking about.

Sorry but that's just not true. You can't trip someone with your legs (whether or not they have the ball). I reviewed the play in question and will admit I was wrong and Vrabel did affect the throw, but he certainly did so with his legs. He looked like he was trying a soccer style slide tackle.

The video is here at the 3:08 mark (you'll have to sit through a commercial first).

One possible reason it wasn't called is because the motion of the blocker as he spun pushed him towards Rivers. So he was partially blocked into Rivers. But he definitely extended his leg into Rivers as he went by.

He was shoved down by the lineman. Where else were his legs supposed to go?
