Of all people, Tony Dungy makes a great point

Just said on Sirius Radio that he's interested to see how the Giants play the Pats in the Super Bowl. He said in week 17 they had absolutely no pressure on them when the played the Pats tough, but now in the Super Bowl the pressure is huge.

He also said he made his decision on his future and was going to speak with Jim Irsay right after he got off the phone with Sirius. I got the feeling he's done.

Media circus will be all over Eli....and this is his first SB. Granted he's played well thus far, but now the 2 week break, the circus and all will be hard to deal with. Can easily throw you off the rhythm.

Really? He said he hadn't spoken with Irsay yet. He even went out of his way to praise Jim Caldwell, saying he was happy for him that he was going to get his chance as a head coach with the Colts. I guess that could be in 2009 and not 2008 when that chance comes.

The truth is - which Pats opponent over the past say 8-10 weeks has been playing with pressure? I would say none. That makes the 18-0 accomplishment even more incredible and impressive. Getting everyone's best game and still prevailing. The fact that the Giants played close in that last game puts expectations on them thereby increasing their pressure in the SB

It's not like he's old and he certainly didn't cover himself with glory with his "restathon" while the injured Giants showed how to make a playoff run.

Pressure is not a bad thing if it keeps you focused on a goal.
If it keeps you from partying too much and avoiding all the silly SB distractions,then it is good.

Second, even with their newfound success they are still viewed as the Washington Generals. If the Patriots lose, their will be riots in Boston. Giants lose Eli is still a hero.

Nice try, No-ones buying it. They earned the right to be there and the NY fan base will expect nothing less then them to go down there and WIN, particularly cuz it was close last time we played.

Everyone expected them to lay down last time and that they never had a chance, there WAS ZERO pressure on them last time.

Since when did Dungy get too stupid to analyze a football situation?

My advice is to listen to what Patriots fans have to say about an opposing coach, and judge him thusly. If a fan says it, it must be true. If the coach still wins a SB then that was just luck (like the '01 Patriots giving up 400 yards to Kurt Warner but managing to win the game.)

When will we learn to separate fact from fiction? Tony Dungy: SB ring coach. Fans: Opinionated and never got close to playing, let alone teaching or coaching or leading.

Right about that. Even before this, the typical Monday morning back page of the NY Post during football season is: "GIANTS WIN! -- Jets Squeak One Out". I'm not sure this ownership recognizes that. The fanbase sure does.

For the Jets fan, it's tragedy at all turns. Younger Jets fans burn white-hot about the Patriots, and migrate toward the Giants. Strongly.

Older Jets fans - myself included - can't, don't, and won't ever root for the Giants, and, truthfully, have always resented Don Shula and the Dawlpfinz ten times more than we resent the Patriots. We compartmentalize things so that we're essentially rooting for competitive football and good commercials - followed by Superman flying around the earth a dozen times fast to turn back time and make it all go away.

I do have common ground with Patriots fans on one point, though. And, I would hope that you all would push for this in a HUGE way. I suggest a sticky to remind everyone. Write to Ron Borges and coax him into spending just a little extra time on his Andre Tippett HOF nomination speech. Andre's a decent guy, and deserves it.

No question, the Giants picked a great time to get hot. With every other pro sports franchise in the NY area on the downside, the Giants have a great chance to win the hearts of a generation of little fans. Ka-ching!
