Meriweather Thread...again

Meriweather had some great hits today. Looking like the SS position fits him better, but he'll need more experience before he can start there. I think Sanders, Meriweather and Wilson is a nice young group of safeties for the next few years.

like i asked earlier. why do u see him as a SS? I see him as a FS because he has great range and ball hawking ability (if he g ets his hands fixed) SS would be playing closer to line more often than a FS would and i think thats Sanders and not Meriweather.

and Wilson is as good as gone. His contract is up and with his playing time so down..doubt he wants to come back at all

why would u say SS? Sure hes a good tackler and can blitz but i like utilizing his range and cover skills at Free Safety

when Sanders-Meriweather become the starting duo..Sanders will be at his natural strong spot and playing closer to line when we need it. Meriweather is a 4.4 guy with fluid hips to cover the slot or play deep and cover ground. He was the best cover Safety in draft after all(said scouts and draft analysts)

Yes, his coverage ability is very good for a Safety, and he plays the position with more intelligence than some might think.

It's nice to see these guys growing into their positions, and while Meriweather still has plenty of room to grow, he's showing us plenty of promise, and I'm happy with his progression. That stop on 3rd and two where he only gave up 1 yard was huge.

Getting to Meriweather's position. I think he's the type of player who can play both spots (as he did at Miami) and he's got one of the more complete games you'll find in a Safety (hits hard, strong in coverage, tackles well, supports the run, has a high motor, and good football intellect).

While I believe he's more than capable of playing SS, I'd rather see his coverage ability put to use more often at FS. That being said, NE could use him in both roles depending on their matchup.

Re: Meriweather Thread..again

how would you guys feel if next season our starting safeties were sanders and merriweather? theres some nice youth...

I like the idea of 3 safeties for 2 spots, to rotate and stay fresh. Wilson appears to be basically gone from the team, so Rodney, Sanders, and Merriweather could be good. You hear about rookies running out of steam before the end of the NFL's long season, but by taking long to work himself in, Merriweather is surely fresh now. He does need some time on Ben Watson's Juggs machine.

Always like Wilson. Every since that injury in the Eagles' Super Bowl. Never been the same, except that one flash against the Jets this season.

Yup funny how things change...... Wilson(2nd rd) and Asante(4th rd) came in the same draft. First couple of years Wilson was the young stud/hitter S while Asante was not much of anything. Tables surely turned now.

Injuries just got the better of Geno. Could've been real good. After SB38 he was done. Still remember how him and roney got hurt and the game became a trackmeet.

Hopefully we keep our S healthy this time

All points to the wisdom of this team, instead of putting him in when he was not ready they saved him until he was ready.. my brain is tired and cannot remember all of the plays, one thing obvious he was always around the ball and made some big hits..
