Kid has officially surpassed Wilson in sub packages. Wilson was inactive last week..wasnt on the injury report. Today..active but wasnt on defense from what I saw.

Meriweather on other hand was in quiet a bit. I think Sanders or Harrison got a breather early 2nd half and Meriweather was playing with the 1s in the 3-4. He had a nice hit on Chambers i think when he caught it inside of Hobbs(lookedl ike a zone D where the LBs didnt get enough depth). Hes a big part of our ST..plays a lot of deep coverage in sub packages when Harrison plays LB. Also when we had 3 Safeties lined up (wouldnt call it deep 3 because it was the regular 11 yards off). Also played up close faking a blitz

Hes been in a LOT as of late and like Maroney..starting to prove people wrong. Also forgot to mention..good tackle on Sproles preventing first down near sideline when he caught it and got ready to turn up.

From the get-go, Bill told us that you earn your playing time,” Meriweather said. “I came in not expecting to have anything handed to me. I expected to come out here and just do what I had to do to help the team win.”
Bill didnt lie..neither did Meriweather. He earned himself the playing time :)

He was into cover sproles or when ever they brought sproles.I thought he saved a big 3rd down when he covered some space fast to tackle him in space.

Put a vicious hit on VJack.

I agree - Meriweather has kept his head down and worked hard all year and its really starting to show - one play that really stood out to me was when he stoned Sproles on a short third down where the chargers needed like 2-3 yards - that was a heads-up play by him. He rarely gets caught out of position these days and i really like the way he punishes whoever he hits.

ya he had a hard hit, can't remember who on. the kid has proved he belongs out there and will get alot better IMO as he get more comfortable. he allows rodney to come and play at the LOS in nickel.

Re: Meriweather Thread..again

and i know sometimes this isn't a good thing to be proud of a rookie for but..i like his attitude. he gets in your face (not this week) after big plays. hes a fiery player and we need those kind of guys like Rodney..Junior..Rosie. He also communicates well when hes in there and does a lot of different things.

huge improvement from preseason when we saw him a bit out of position against Giants trying to play against the big boys(Shockey)

now hes in position. His tackling earlier was questionable because he didnt knock people back or with force. Now hes making big hits everyweek..hes not holding back or being hesitant like he was against Ravens .. against Redskins.

That play stood out to me as well. He has seen more and more time the last few weeks and you can see that he is just more comfortable and confident with the defense. I am glad to see young players like Meriweather work hard and develop within this system.

I love his attitude - I loved that article about him at mid-season where he said something along the lines of "I'm really inexperienced and have a lot of learning yet to do but i'm going to work like hell to figure it out" (it wasnt quite in those words, i'm paraphrasing.) But he clearly has a desire to just be a great player and it seems like he approaches the game the right way.

every pats championship team has had a fiery player..... Bryan Cox, Rodney Harrison, and maybe now Merriwether.... those are the nasty player candidates that are always angry and ready to snap. maybe BM will be in that category. the rest of the pats are fiery but more of the we aren't gonna back down and take your garbage category.

Now if only Chad Jackson would step up.

as long as he doesnt act like a punk and make a bad reputation for himself, im all for him getting in offense's face after big plays. and as long as he controls it (unlike Rodney few weeks ago ) kids gonna be a leader of this defense in a few years when Rodney is done.

Re: Meriweather Thread..again

I like most thought Gino was going to be special. Nice knowing you have a good time as a Jets reserve.

Meriweather has really come on. Between Sanders and Meriweather the future looks bright for when Rodney retires.

Re: Meriweather Thread..again

how would you guys feel if next season our starting safeties were sanders and merriweather? theres some nice youth...

i'd be fine with it but i dont expect it because Rodney is playing very well even at this point in his career. unless Meriweather shows up at training camp like a 6 year veteran reaching his full potential ..i dont see him starting but i think we will throw in the rotation like we were supposed to with Wilson

Wilson will start elsewhere..but not be as good as we once thought

He has his best game of the season imo. He seems more of a Strong Safety then a FS/CB. I can't wait to see him reach his potential after he figures out his hand woes.

Rodney is still playing well for his age, but to be honest I think he's starting to slip a little in coverage - he's still a great hitter and brings the blitz like nobody else, but coverage (which was never his strongest point) is starting to get a little more questionable - At this point he's still pretty reliable but after another off-season, he's another half a year older and maybe a step slower? I really hope he's still the starter next year cause i love the guy, but i wouldnt be surprised to see him become the more rotational guy, with sanders playing SS most of the time, and meriweather handling a lot of the minutes at FS

why would u say SS? Sure hes a good tackler and can blitz but i like utilizing his range and cover skills at Free Safety

when Sanders-Meriweather become the starting duo..Sanders will be at his natural strong spot and playing closer to line when we need it. Meriweather is a 4.4 guy with fluid hips to cover the slot or play deep and cover ground. He was the best cover Safety in draft after all(said scouts and draft analysts)

He played well overall, but did get burnt really bad one one Turner run where he should have made a tackle before the sticks and he ended up getting an extra ten yards. I think he is improving, but I am still not sold on him yet as a starter.

i'd say the Jaguars game was his best. lots of tackles and a near pick.
