Incredible last drive by the Patriots. Has to be one of the best drives of the year and we didn't even get any points on it. Great work by Laurence and Kevin with some clutch plays.

:rocker: :D

Amen. That last drive was a thing of absolute beauty.

At the 5:49 mark I was trying to explain to my wife that the Pats are trying to eat up the clock. She asked if the Chargers would get the ball back. I assumed yes, I had no idea that they had that kind of drive in them.

UNREAL!!!

No, see, the Patriots didn't score on that drive. The Chargers have the blueprint to stop them!

norv pulls a marty and punts from the other team's 37 with 9 mins to go down by 2 scores
:rocker:

Just awesome. Should add and assumed 7 to the score. 28-12..

What a drive, indeed. Huge play by Faulk and Maroney (and the O-Line) was just a beast in the 2nd half.

Maroney also put an end to the talk by some of the haters that he only had a good yard per carry because of the passing game + no one paid attention to the run, etc. The Chargers knew the Patriots were going to be running the football down their throat and there was nothing they could to do stop it. The line run blocked well and Maroney broke tackles and made sweet cut backs on play after play...then pushed foward for an extra 2-3 yards whenever he was being tackled.

I'm loving how fresh Maroney has looked compared to the rest of the backs in the playoffs. He's got an explosiveness that others don't because some of the others have twice the carries Maroney had in the regular season. Kind of funny how people complained Maroney wasn't a 250-300ish carry back this year, when we are seeing that it is a very good thing he wasn't.

I thought the same thing, at that point felt SD deserved to loose.. that is why we all love BB so much.

SD offense only had the ball for 3, that's 3 series in the 2nd half..........:rocker:  :p :singing:

The NFL has stats for everything so I’m sure there is an official answer for this question…was the Patriots drive which chewed up the final 9:13 some sort of record ? The Patriots desperately need another record and surely this drive was one ie:

* The longest scoreless last possession drive in NFL history ?
* The longest scoreless last possession drive in AFC history ?
* The longest scoreless last possession drive in play-off history ?
* The longest scoreless last possession drive in AFC play-off history ?
* The longest scoreless last possession drive in AFCG play-off history ?
* Err… The longest scoreless last possession drive in NE history ?

Come on…it must be a record…somehow :D :singing:

I seem to remember a large time consuming TD drive by the Pats that took up almost the entire 3rd quarter of the 2003 AFCCG. I will try to find the box score.

But 9:13 was incredible! Especially when you consider that they absolutely knew that the Pats were going to run it on 1st and 2nd downs, and Maroney still got yards!

Absolutely. Great points, Mankins. I think Coach didn't overuse Maroney during the season so LM would be peaking for the playoffs. And the OL has owned the 4th quarter all year. And as mentioned, we didn't have Neal, Kazur and Kyle Brady against the Giants in week 17. I think this was a deliberate move to have them playoff ready too.

LMAO.................

Let's put it this way...if Brady doesn't throw a pick in the Endzone and the Pats kick the field goal at the end.........because piling on points is what they do..........the score would have been 31 - 12.

Doesn't sound that close does it?

BB is lulling opponents into a false sense of security.......think 49ers v. Chargers...........this thing will be ugly for the Giants. (remember...the Giants only saw the 1st page of the playbook in week 17...the Pats ran NO misdirection or trick plays in that comeback. The Giants will get pages 2-299 SuperBowl Sunday).

In all fairness - if I was down by 5 points with 9:38 to go in the 4th Quarter I'd never think for a moment that it my team would never see the ball again.

I'd have to have some faith that my defense would step up - possibly benefitting from having the Pats start deep in their own territory.

That being said, agressive play should have been Turner's game plan - and punting at the 36 yard line is not agressive.

You're exactly right.

The Pats took control at the 9:13 mark of the game.

And just for fun here's Mark 9:13:
