Patriots Red Zone Defense

Not just the red zone defense... the entire defense. SD didn't get anywhere near the red zone in the 2nd half.

They have been great all year.
Not all year. When the Patriots were super-hot at the start of the year, their biggest flaw was giving up something like 6 TDs in the opponents' first 6 red zone appearances.

Yes they were great this game.

Unbelievable job. We've taken pride in our red zone offense for the past 4 years now, in fact we've called it the gold zone. LT sitting hurt us but you guys just shut us down.

Dojo--

First off, let me give the Chargers props for a tough-fought game.

That said, one of the basic reasons the Pats have won so many games these last few years is that when players have gone down, their backups have filled in and made the contributions necessary for the Pats to win. Turner and Sproles did a lot, but it just wasn't enough this time. As much as it pains me to say it, though, it might be next time.

Well said. My biggest fear going into the playoffs was that Rivers is not a Red Zone QB. His wind-up takes too damn long and he doesn't have a gun to zip it into tight spots like Farve, Brady, Manning, Romo, etc... That being said, the Pats red zone D has been one of the constants during your Super Bowl Era and they stepped up again today.
