Inactive players for the Chargers today:

CB Cletis Gordon
CB Paul Oliver
LB Anthony Waters
WR Malcom Floyd
TE Scott Chandler
DT Brandon McKinney
K Dave Rayner
QB Charlie Whitehurst (3rd quarterback)

I don't know how much tougher, they have three banged-up starters playing.
 
The fact that they didn't use a roster spot for Whitehurst is a good indication they expect Rivers will be ok.

If Rivers can't go, they essentially have no back up to Volek (even for a single play) until the 4th quarter.

So, one of two things is happening here -- either they are gambling or Rivers is expected to play significantly.

IMO rivers just had a mild sprain. All the talk abt him not practicing all week is BS.he must have practiced not just in front of the media.

The Chargers feel they came out ahead when it comes to inactives, they were scared stiff of Le Kevin Smith.
 
I think that one inactive that will have a big difference is the Chargers NOT dressing Rayner. Rayner had been handling the kick-off duties in the last few games. Rayner is very good on kick-offs. Kaeding, not so much. Look for good field position for the Pats due to short kick-offs.
