Rivers to start according to NFL Network

Hmm.. Interesting. I was watching NFL Network and they said that Rivers was a game time decision. That he'd TRY to go, but that the decision hadn't been made yet.

i think its all gamesmanship. Who knows , maybe rivers practiced all week just not in front of the media. Norv is just playing games with all this. He knew all along rivers was going to start.

Ridiculous. He has never been this close to a Superbowl and who knows if he ever will again. It's in no way selfish when he is risking it all to help his team try to get to a Superbowl.

Actually, its very selfish for him to think about playing because its clear that he's not even close to 60% never mind 100%. The best chance San Diego has is for Volek to start.

I don't think Norv has said anything yet, Rivers is the one who said he'll start. Norv will probably wait until Rivers gets a chance to warmup and run around the field a little before he announces anything.

not sure how much say norv has. Their GM said yesterday it was rivers's call.

if he chose to sit we'd call him a baby
exactly...good to see a pats fan who realizes an opposing player can't win regardless of what they do

we still got indy fans who weren't impressed by rivers last week, and those were the same people saying they had the best pass defense in the nfl

Exactly. And we will call him a baby when he leaves the game early, while Brady would play even if his lips fell off.

Along the same lines, on ESPN's open they said Gates' toe was a lot more painful this week than last so I'm expecting Rivers and Tomlinson to play but Gates not to.

i think an oldschool player or fan would laugh his ass off at your concern

that may not be so bad, gives manu a shot to show what he can do (we all like manu, he's been very dependable since we picked him up last year)

the part where this will hurt is obviously when we go two TE, no idea how chandler is at blocking, manu's a better blocker than gates, he's just obviously not the down the field playmaker.

most non sd fans aren't aware that gates has been playing hurt for a couple months now (bad back), he's been dropping alot of passes and his play forced rivers to go away from him as the #1 receiving option, which like eli with shockey, has allowed PR to open up his game more.

i'd rather see Rivers playing, injured or not.

Seeing Volek playing in a Championship game just doesn't seem right.

The downfield passing game improved immediately in the Tennessee game when Gates went out - but TE are notoriously a good matchup against our defense, I'd much prefer the Chargers to have to look a little deeper and more to the outside.

It's annoying that San Diego thinks they are being sneaky and fooling everyone hiding Rivers' injury.

What the hell has this guy ever done for them to act like this?

That's like playing the same game with Jeff Garcia, except a less successful Jeff Garcia.

i'm looking for the guys like legedu and manu to maybe cause problems but we'll see , the main thing for sd is how we cope with NE's passrush

that's always the main thing for sd's offense

if NE can get to PR often, we're dead , that's been the way san diego loses , when their oline doesn't do their job

but that goes for any team really, it's all about the trenches

I don't think who SD starts as QB is going to make any difference in this game.

regardless of who plays its their defense and its pressure which is the most concerning for us. if our offense can manage that than that will help negate their offense.

well i could see doing it against indy, i don't see why they'd hide anything against NE, NE's going to prepare for all 53 guys anyway.

as for rivers, he's just always been a winner and a big game player

you guys saw how he showed up even last playoffs but his wrs dropped 7 passes, and his safety got troy brown'd

rivers did his part to win that game along with LT, the wrs and defense, no so much

This is great news..........

#1 - I'm not terribly impressed with a healthy Rivers, so a banged up one in a brace is even less impressive.

#2 - If Norvo-the-clown is letting Rivers play a week after an injury that caused him to be listed as doubtful, it's an automatic indication of just how confident the Chargers are in Volek (not very).

My guess is Big Vince sits Rivers down on the second series and Volek comes in, to the sound of a toilet flushing, and the flushing away of any chance of an upset.

I've been hoping Rivers was gonna "give it a go".

same thing indy said

teams have been selling rivers short for a long time

maybe you guys will be right in the end, but rivers has done some nice work this playoffs

If he is faking a limp and comes out and plays lights out, my estimation of him will improve greatly.

Can our pass rush get to him? The Charger's line has been protecting pretty well lately and did a great job last week.

Maybe they'll have good games but that's like me being interested in what Chad Jackson could do if Moss were out.
