Read it closer. It was per week. And that was one from 5 years ago. The place where she rents currently was picured in the Herald yesterday. Looked pretty nice.

It could be because when you're very wealthy and you start helping someone out, the person starts EXPECTING it to continue. And in time, they often want more. I've been in that situation (except I'm not wealthy) and it's not easy to say no if you care about the person. No matter how much money you have, you can't subsidize your friends lives...nor should you.

Because its not his job to help her out. If you had a friend, who was always behind on their car/apartment/credit-card payments. would you keep helping them out? Maybe once or twice, you lend them money. But not repeatedly. That just lets the issue keep going. They've got to learn on their own to sink or swim.
So she had an $800/month apartment. Any able-bodied person is able to make atleast $400/week if they really try ($8/hour * 50hours/week). Where's the rest of her money going to? And she could've got a smaller apartment or got a couple of roommates so that she could start saving some money.

She's struggling to make rental payments and has even had an eviction procedure started against her by the landlord.
