One of the great joys of this incredible year for me has been the knowledge & feeling that no matter what any opposing fans think or how BAD they've wanted to see us lose, we just keep winning.

I can't put into words how deeply satisfying I've found this to be as a Patriots fan who has had to listen to all the BS from fans & media across the country.

I'd love to hear others thoughts on this. How good does it feel to you that the Patriots are still standing tall despite all the negativity, adversity & attacks? Is anyone else like me and feel that with every victory, we are one step closer to the ultimate (dare I say it) Eff You to all those who HATE the Patriots?

I almost feel shameful admitting I feel this way.;)

A lot of opposing fans are rooting for us this Sunday but want us to lose the the Pack.

I don't really care what they think. I love this team and everytime they win it feels great. Watching people get angrier as the weeks pass and the Pats keep winning make me feel like a kid in a candy store. They shout about spygate and cheaters and Brady and Moss and Belichick and it feels that much sweeter to know that that's all they have because they can't claim my team is bad. Envy to the highest degree.

I love this team being hated because they are the best.

At some point I stopped trying to defend the Patriots and stopped caring that people hated them so much and I've started to just enjoy it, same as you. Embracing that my team is the 'bad guys' made it all fun, especially considering that they have been winning so much. :)

Nice to read your comments fnordcircle...I appreciate the humility you show by posting on this thread. The internet is perhaps not the best place to understand and appreciate one another and often difficult for us to allow our personalities to shine. I'd even venture to say that I allow my worst traits to escape here as there is little price to pay. However, I will genuinely try to appreciate your individuality more than I have in the RM threads.;)

Enjoy the game Sunday!

Opposing fans are so passionate about pulling against the Pats it's like they are pulling for a team that's gone 0-17 this year. Every week they come away disappointed :D

Dunno about this my bro in law is a Minnesota fan who loves the Pats, my best friend is a Miami fan who tolerates the pats and enjoys what they are doing.. not sure I find a lot of hate.. most people enjoying the ride. Even the marginal fans love the pats, so I think there is a minority, but overall it is all good.

Just the other day, I was talking to a colleague of mine about the Pats. She is a big time fan of the Steelers. All she wanted was some body else other than the Pats to win the Super Bowl. Although she didn't want Dallas to win either because they are tied for the super bowl totals.

She went on to say that Pats shouldn't win because they cheated. Then I explained to her that video taping was allowed, but only in certain areas and the Pats were in the wrong place. If they had the camera about 20 yards away, there would have been no problem. Then she asks me why were they fined and had their draft pick taken away? I told her that the new commissioner wanted to show that there was a new sheriff in town.

Her reaction was.. "Oh! That's it? So you are allowed to video tape? But any ways, I'm tired of hearing about the Patriots. All you hear about is that the Patriots are great. I just don't want them to win. I'm sick of Tom Brady. Tom Brady this.. Tom Brady that. He has won enough. ."

You know how the rest goes...

So people who don't like the Pats will see/hear what they want but ignore what contradicts their opinions.

Like the Theory of Evolution. I know a lot of people who don't believe in it or who believe that all life on earth was through evolution except for man. Man was created separately (by God). It's not that they don't know better. It's just that they choose not believe science because it conflicts with what they were taught growing up. That's perfectly alright with me. Gotta believe in something.. I guess.

A few weeks ago, ESPN or the NFL netword had a poll that asked if fans wanted to see the Patriots go undefeated. The results showed an overwhelming majority did NOT want to see that.

It doesn't really upset me, because I know it's just jealousy. Opposing fans spout righteousness about spygate or running up the score, but those are just excuses. Jealousy's a natural (if ugly) human reaction to the success of someone else, particularly when it comes at the expense of your own team. If the Jets had won 3 superbowls this decade, and were 17-0, most of us would probably exaggerate every little fault as well.

People hate New England sports in general right now because they're on such a run of success. It can get annoying sometimes, and I catch grief for it from friends and coworkers, but I'm 100% sure any one of them would trade places with me as a fan in a minute.

My side of the family is all from Massachusetts and we all live here still. Nothing but Pats fans. The Wife's not from here (but she's convoited) and my outlaws are all fans of other teams like Jets, Bills and Iggles. They won't even speak to me about the Pats, probably because they know I can beat them over the head with this team and they have nothing to come back with.
I love it!

:yeahthat:

It might have been different with the Colts, but the Chargers are a pretty unlikable team in their own right, and a Chargers-Packers/Giants Superbowl just doesn't have a lot of sheen to it. I'd bet that most neutral fans would rather have the excitement of the Brady-led Pats gunning for perfection against Lord Farve's Pack. That would be the most crowd-pleasing matchup in years.

The REAL football fans, opposing or not understand what we have here and admire it. But the vast majority of homers (opposing) hate us with all they have because we are special and would love nothing more than for us to lose and maybe get crippled in the process, to those people I say :horn:who cares! But there are plenty out there that want us to lose!!
GO PATS!

You reminded me of a co-worker of mine from Minnesota. He's almost at the point where it's painful for him to say the word "Patriots". And it is because he makes his hatred so obvious that I relish the fact we've been so dominant & I bring it up constantly when we talk.

The more someone makes their hatred of the Pats obvious, the more I want to rub it in. I think that's as natural as when someone shows their envy & disdain for you, the more it makes you smile in their face.:D

whenever someone complains about the overwhelmingly lopsided media coverage of the pats, I just ask them 'and who's fault is that? Tom Brady's? BB's?' They have nothing to do with it. Espn keeps feeding it, and everyone keeps eating it. Go write them a dirty letter.

Word has it that Kraft constantly calls the major media outlets asking for additional coverage:rolleyes:

Well, not that anyone here cares for it, but here's my 2 cents. I don't hate the Pats players; if given a choice, I would want just about every one of them on my team. Harrison is the only one who is easily unlikable.

I don't even hate BB; I read that ESPN article "under the hoodie", or whatever it was, & it really shed some light on who he is. He hates the media, which is why he generally comes across poorly in the public eye, but I have huge respect for him.

The fans -well, they've become somewhat intolerable. It used to be easy to root for Boston sports, because many fans of both the Sox & Patriots were as long-suffering as anyone. Now, there is a sense of entitlement among the younger fans in particular that is reminiscent of Yankee fans & Cowboy fans, and it's a challenge for opposing fans to want to see that continue.

In general, I want the Pats to lose because - when my team isn't in it - I root for the underdog (just as I was happy when the Pats beat the Rams all those years ago). Plus, the whole Pats/Colts reign over the AFC is just getting boring, and it would be nice to see a more competitive league emerge over the next few years.

Interesting post because all year, there has been alot of piling on. Nobody likes a team to dominate like this, except the fans of that team.

However, I must have talked to a dozen "haters" this week, who throughout the year wanted my team to lose, but for this game said something like "I can't stand the Chargers....trash talking punks".

This is the first game we're getting some love. Weird.

I love it when I bring up their team (insert losers here) and fake interest in their team like, "Jeez, what are the Jets going to do for quarterback this week?" or "Wow, Joe...the Eagles came real close to beating the Pats, huh? Got a hell of a running back in Westbrook..."
They just look at me and my sh-t eatin grin and turn away. Been doin it for years now.

Living in Northern Virginia, I went to a local bar to watch the game. There were about 200 people there, 20 Pats fans and no Jaguars fans.

Everytime the Jags did something "positive" the place went crazy like we were in the middle of Jacksonville. Every time the Pats did something, most of the place just remained quiet or somebody would yell obscentities out about Brady.

Absolutely terrible. I even commented to a guy if he was from Jacksonville - and his reply was no, he admitted he just hated the Pats because they were so good.
