E-W Shrine Game

If you're bored this Saturday, the East-West Shrine game is on. Lots of good prospects are playing. For Example:

Those second-and-third tier QBs that could turn out to be the next diamond in the rough. My favorite is Sam Kellar, but also playing are Anthony Morelli, Paul Smith, Kevin O'Connell, and Josh Johnson.

Other players we've discussed...or at least I have:

Jameel McClain Syracuse 6'1" 256 (I've seen him. Best on a bad defense.)
Stanford Keglar Purdue 6'2" 247
Curtis Gatewood Vanderbilt 6'3" 245 (Interesting everybody mentions Goff. Ochmed, scouting report on Gatewood?)

And finally, TCU has a pair of undersized DLs, Chase Ortiz and Tommy Blake, that are 6'3" and 255. I'd love to see how fast and quick they move, and wonder if they couldn't be drafted in the late rounds/signed as UDFA, and be given a shot at ILB.

Gatewood

Very Very fast for such a big LB. I am guessing he runs a 4.55 or less.

When free to run to the ball, he is at his best. Not great at bringing the wood, slow to read and react, and he couldn't shed a fire hydrant, but he is very big and very fast. (Not quick, just fast)

I assume you're talking about Gatewood.
In the Pats 3-4 2 gap system, I think that shedding blockers is going to be important for our LBs. So that's probably a negative.

No, having the ability to shed blockers (consistantly) is a MUST in NE's system, so if a LB can't hold up at the point, fight through trash, or shed blocks he's going to have a hard time playing within that system. That's why I liked Rey so much, and didn't think Laurinaitis made sense.

But Maluaga isn't coming out this year. So we can talk about that until we're blue in the face, but he's not in the draft pool.

I watched a lot of the Shrine game and again I was impressed by Lowery's ball skills. He is an interception machine.

I had heard all week that TE Joe Jon Finley was a pass catching machine, but he dropped almost all the balls I saw thrown to him.

The DL guy from West Virginia was impressive and he has experience playing in a 3-3-5 defense at West Virginia.

The punter from Texas State impressed me with his distance and hang time. I think we need to upgrade the punter postion in the offseason.

I thought Goff played well in the base defense and on special teams. I would not mind seeing him on our defense next season.

Between your positive scouting reports throughout the season, and what I saw/read in the Shrine week, you've got me convinced. I'd be very cool taking Lowery in the second and not reaching for a CB at #7.

There are a lot of other quality CB's that can be had in the second and third round as well.

Trea Williams had a good Shrine game and stuck his head in on running plays a couple of times.

We will probably see a couple in the Senior bowl this weekend.

We all know the types of skills that BB prizes in his CB's so that should help narrow the list of potential draftees.

OT sort of: There was a site providing senior bowl footage last year, is there any site doing so this year?
