My Thoughts on the NE/SD AFCCG Matchup

Bottomline we have Tom Brady....you don't. That's where it starts and thats where it ends for you chumps. Our O cannot be stopped. I don;t care if your D is the second coming of the '85 Bears.

We faced Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, Ravens pass rush and I'd say handled their pressure pretty well.
you must be new to this whole "football" thing huh?

Bottom line ---- Our defense is getting better while yours is slowing down.

Whether or not the Bolts can bring consistent pressure against Brady is the only question and the answer is it remains to be seen.

I keep hearing about our defense is slowing down and are being old, which brings up my question. How come our defense owns the fourth quarter?

what happened, cat got your tongue when slapped with reality

So your reality is that your offense CAN'T be stopped? Same thing that was said about the "greatest show on turf" and the Colts offense and they were stopped by the Pats. And thats only recent memory. There's always ways to stop offenses, or at least slow them down. Click on the link that I provided a few posts back and you'll see my ideas. I'm not scared of Maroney, Moss, your TE's, or your OLine, it's Faulk out of the backfield and Welker on 3rd downs that is the biggest threat to us. Well, of course Brady.

because the Pats are usually up by 10+ and that forces the other team to pass. It's really easy to pass rush and disguise coverages to create TO's when you KNOW a team is going to pass.

For some reason the number 35-24 keeps jumping out at me. I don't particularly like it because I can't see NE scoring a TD every time they score, but I'm going to run with it anyway.

You know, 35 = 7 + 7 + 3 + 7 + 3 + 8. :)

The only thing I would add is for Merriman and/or Phillips to rush inside more often and more than occassionaly blitz up the middle with a safety.

So, you're saying a Ted Cottrell led D can come up with a scheme similar to the ultimate Defensive scheme that BB created vs Rams ? You ignorance is sealed with that one.

Yea....there's ways to stop offenses....except This offense only scored the greatest # of points in the histroy of the NFL.

People make names for themselves in different ways. Cottrell has been in this league for a long time and has built some very very good defenses and has the ability to create a defense that could slow down your offense, most definitely. So how many points do you honestly think it's going to take to beat this Charger team? homer aside, I really want to know.

Here's
a little bit of my "analysis" on the Patriots offense. Just in case you wanted to know.

I read this.
Your obsession with "Maroney staring at the sky" needs to stop.
I have no idea who you're watching, but it's not Maroney.

I know you guys love him but he was declared the starter before the season and he had his carries taken away by a lifelong backup, Sammy Morris, who was more effective than he was. He runs really high kneed and he can't break a tackle from anyone bigger than he is. I see him being arm tackled running off tackle a lot. That's why the only time the Patriots give him the ball is when they're ahead comfortably. He's there to keep the defense honest, not to win the game, they have Brady for that. But bottom line is that the Patriots don't trust him to put the game on his shoulders and win the game the same way the Chargers trust LT, the Chiefs trust Johnson, and the Steelers trust Parker.

Perhaps because recently it is your offense mostly playing in the fourth quarter successfully scoring more points than your defense has already given up?

Pats will put 42 on your Dolts (homer aside). I see Dolts getting 13-17 pts. If you think Cromartie can cover Moss one-on-one all day, then that will be fun to watch.

Our O line has faced many pass rushing/blitzing teams in '07 and neutralized them quite well.....Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, Ravens, Steelers, Colts. I don;t care what pressure Cottrell tries to dial up. FYI, Cottrell was D coordinator for Jets, and our coaches knows his scheme pretty well. Lastly, your teams plays a 3-4 base D, something Brady knows very well how to attack since that is the D BB has schemed here.

Your team is in for a long day since our running game is now picking up steam as well. Pick your poison

you could see it's a c gap run that bouced off tackle and the whole time he's standing just as tall as the OLinemen. Where's the center of gravity? He runs a lot like how Lawrence Phillips ran and that was his eventual downfall after he lost his bits of speed. It'll be Maroneys downfall too if he doesn't learn to lower down a little bit.

I suppose 122 yds rushing (+40 rec) vs Jax were by someone else named Laurence Maroney....another ****** posting w/o a clue

I'll submit you haven't watched him since the Colts game then.
Maroney has adjusted to the Patriots style of running game (much different than the Minnesota Gophers' style); and has had several 100-yd performances in the back half of the season, including 122 yds on 22 carries last week against the "vaunted" Jacksonville rushing defense.

He's running differently, and has fit into the system. When the Patriots' game plan includes focus on the run; Maroney has been very good.

This is from someone who hated the Maroney draft pick and was pushing for Morris to be the starter from the preseason. Morris' running style fits perfectly into the Patriots system. Maroney was taught to be patient and find the hole. He's evolved into a one cut and go runner, and the proof has been in the pudding.

Go back and watch the Jacksonville game. No one got him with an arm tackle; and almost all of his yards were after contact.

Accuracy folks, It's all I ask.

I'm really not too sure you know much about the Chargers, honestly. Plus, I never said Cro on Moss one on one all day because I'm not that stupid. Cro matches up evenly with Moss physically but if moss wins 50% of the routes then we'll get destroyed, even though Cro won 50% of his coverages. I just said Cro on Moss all day. If you even read it I even said that he needed safety help over top and it should be a great matchup. Plus, Jammer has had an unbelievable track record on covering Moss.

HE HAD A WIDE OPEN HOLE! HE WASN'T TOUCHED!

Why would you lower your head if you weren't going to take contact?

here's my feelings in a nutshell:

The Patriots have proven they know how to win. Then win when they have to win and they win when they don't have to. They've won in blow-outs, squeakers and have come from behind in the 4th quarter on 4 different occasions.

The Chargers appear to be a team that is truly peaking in January, except they are hurt bad...let's not kid ourselves. But I'd say the same thing if they were 100% healthy.

Any who is predicting a Chargers victory is:

-Engaging in wishful thinking
-Hoping they can be the one who says, "I told you so"
-An Idiot

Now this is my opinion of course. But having said all the above, I STILL know the Chargers can win the game. I believe that with all my heart. I'm just saying that anyone here who predicts a Chargers victory is not doing it based upon football knowledge & facts and surely not based upon what we have witnessed this year.

But that's why they'll play the game this Sunday!

As I've been saying all week is that Jax was running a nickel and dime defense for most of the game, making Maroney a huge factor wasn't hard. They stretched him a few times and matched him up one on one against a CB and safety. A RB who stands a little upright but has good size usually holds the advantage at that point because it's a lot easier to make a little cut and break the arm tackle, something he wouldn't be able to do on a LB. I've watched the game, and his running style just doesn't impress me much. Sorry. Not saying it can't be fixed because Eric ****erson had the same style but he learned to lower himself when he was closed in on and he had a hall of fame career but he struggled with health and not being able to get the hard yards early in his career.
