How Does Laurinaitis Staying In School Effect The Pats?

How do you think this effects them on draft day? I would think this will force the pats to either go CB or trade down. I know everyone and their grandmother had the Pats picking him in their mock drafts. Thoughts?

Trade down for some later picks, 2009 first. Nothing else to take from here really. Maybe trade the pick for a decent linebacker or corner and a 2009 first.

My thoughts are that we are lucky we don't have to spend the next 3 months reading mocks that have the Pats taking Laurinaitis, a player they have no business taking at #7.

At this time, there are no players worth taking at #7. Trade the pick. Laurinaitis would have been a poor pick. Did you see him play in the national championship?

Laurinaitis to the Pats was definitely the hot pick around the web a month or so back, but if you look through the threads here I think most Pats fans had written him off as a contender at #7. So no real effect, IMO. (And not a big surprise that he'd stay in school after looking so bad in the title game.)

Personally, I've said from the beginning that the only positions I could see shelling out top-10 money for, given the strength of the team, are CB, OLB and LT. So far, I haven't seen much to change my mind.

I have C.Long going to Miami nr. 1. My fear is that the Jesters take Gholston at 6. I have the top 6 C.Long, G.Dorsey, McFadden, J.Long, M.Ryan and V.Gholston. I think someone might be willing to trade up for S.Ellis at 7. Some people have him rated ahead of G.Dorsey. He will be the last impact dl on the board until later in the 1st round. Maybe, someone will want to trade up for him before NO,Cincy or someone like that snags him. Carolina,Chicago
and Denver might be willing to move up to get him. Denver run D was atrocious. They have to fix that before anything. I just don't like any of the corners i've seen at 7. Trade down for an extra 2 and take a cb 1st. Then maybe we can move up in round 2 with the pick we acquired and get a pass-rusher like C.Ellis - Va Tech or P.Merling - Clemson.

Back to this thread. There is no way in he** we were going to draft Laurinaitis at 7. Pass-rusher or cb. Not an ilb. We can sign a veteran ilb who will be a better fit for our system. And more importantly. Someone Belichick trusts.

Trade down and take the best CB available. That's what I've seen as the plan all along.

Then take the loot from that trade, and other picks, and trade around to get an LB prospect they like. Or else a second CB. Or both.

Laurinaitis is overrated and needed the extra year to prove he could do better than he did against LSU. LSU sent a lineman after him every time and James couldn't do anything about it. You have to like his motor, but I don't think he can shake a blocker and get to the ball. He is always standing over the ball carrier, but it is 8 yards down the field.

I'm looking for the Pats to take a serious look at Spencer Larsen at Arizona. He has a ton of maturity when you consider his age. I especially love the fact that he left school for two years to go on his religious mission and came back to be a two-time second team Pac 10 in 2005 and 2006. Larsen was a first team Pac 10 in 2007. Definitely a guy you can put on special teams and allow to mature into the MLB position.
