gost really let me down with that miss from 35 out, and im sure he let the guys down who had some money on the Pats -13.5 even more
as for kaeding, the guy looked extremely nervous today vs indy, and shanked one as well

anyone have splits for gost kicking on the hashmarks, i feel like he somewhat struggles kicking from the left hashmark, but dont have the numbers to back that claim

as for their stats this regular season:
kaeding:
24/27 fgs, 46/46 xps, 11/11 (20-29 yds), 5/6 (30-39), 7/8 (40-49), 1/2 (50+), with a long of 51
cold (21-40degrees): 1/2, with a long of 25 (temp is supposed to be around 15 degrees)

gost:
21/24 fgs, 74/74 xps, 10/10 (20-29), 8/9 (30-39), 3/5 (40-49), 0/0 (50+), with a long of 45
cold (21-40 degrees): 7/9, with a long of 42 (his only miss of the 30 yard variety came here, and one miss of the 40 yard)

i think it's safe to say gost man has more experience in the cold
adam vinatieri once said the hardest kick he ever made wasnt the one in the tuck bowl game to tie it, it was the one in the coldest game ever (vs the titans in the 03 divisional round) to win it that was, because the ball felt like a rock

seeing the way kaeding looked after missing that kick, would worry me if im a chargers fan
overall, i'm giving the slight edge to gost, hopefully he wont push one this week

Gostkowski has demonstrated that he is a consistent kicker regardless of the pressure and at this point in his career (granted it is still early) he is the most accurate kicker the Patriots have ever had, statwise.

He's made big kicks in the regular season like last year's Colts game and in the playoffs.

Kaeding has demonstrated the opposite, becoming increasingly unreliable in the playoffs. I don't think the edge is that slight at all, until Kaeding can prove he can play through pressure I think you give the nod to the guy who has.

Kaeding's miss last year was from 54 yards. By the time you get out to that range you really can't fault a kicker when he misses. Isn't it interesting that when a kicker makes an XP or a FG, it's no big deal because it's just his job, yet when he misses, everyone gets on him about it? The Colts were ready to tear apart vinatieri when he missed his game-winning FG, and the Titans were ready to do the same to Bironas even after the spectacular season he gave them.

That said, it looks as though Kaeding's injury earlier in the season is affecting him a lot more than he or Norv Turner said it would. I know that when I'm watching the game on Sunday that I'll definitely be hoping that the Chargers avoid the FG situation and don't have to rely on Kaeding as much. He hasn't had to make any real "clutch" kicks in a while - hopefully next week won't create that situation either.

What about the gimme against the Jets in '05 that he shanked? No matter how you try to frame it Kaeding has proven to be a liability in the playoffs.

No but seriously, kudos to him for all those XPs.

totally forgot about that game
seriously one of the worst coaching games in the history of the nfl playoffs

Oh, no, don't get me wrong. It was Kaeding's fault we lost against the Jets. All I'm saying is that there isn't enough evidence of some sort of playoff curse around him to give him that title - mostly due to Marty Schottenheimer's playoff woes.:(

And the injured leg doesn't help either.

i forgot about the injury, what is it exactly

Perhaps Nate Kaeding read Peyton Manning's book on how to succeed in the playoffs?

A bone bruise on his left (plant) leg he suffered during the season closer against the Raiders. The whole week after he said he was fine and nailing the balls in practice, and Norv Turner did too. But it obviously affected him last week against the Titans when he missed a relatively easy field goal. Probably one of those things where it's okay if you use it but quickly worsens when you don't. Maybe if he gets 4 or 5 practice kicks in before he has to actually go for the FG... oh well, them's the breaks.

the only fg that qualifies as really clutch from nate that i can recall is at indy in 2005 (regular season), we're trailing 17-16 and he nails a long one , then turner gets the long run to totally seal the deal

nate sucks in the playoffs though

4 playoff games, 4 big misses

(the one vs NE i don't really blame him for, i blame mccree for being ******ed)

Kaeding wasn't even getting his kickoffs to the endzone in the dome, we could get some short kickoffs if he kicks last last week.
