Should be an interesting battle considering
- LT, Rivers, Gates are all gimpy
- SD has to travel back cross country, and then travel all the way across east again. Last year we paid price for that having beaten the Bolts and then 2nd half meltdown vs Colts.

I see it as 38-14 Pats.

Wasn't that the score of the first game? I think all of their injured players will give it a go. One thing though. When you are nursing an injury and you're playing in 15 degree weather. It really hurts when you get hit on it. I can't wait til next Sunday. The Chargers are one of the original AFL teams. I don't hate em as a team. I am not crazy about how they reacted after our game last year.
I'm really happy we've played them 2x recently. Gives BB some good film to digest and take away what they like to do.

Re: Official Pats vs Bolts AFCCG Thread

Chargers have big, physical receivers, which can cause problems for our small, not so physical corners.
Chargers defense is playing much better than week 2, and are extremely opportunistic. Luckily, the Pats have the least amount of giveaways in the NFL.
The Colt's got deep in Charger territory 3 times, only to come away empty handed. 1 out of 3 on those trips, and the Colts win.
Brady & co need to stay efficient in there.

The Chargers front 7 can bring as much pressure as the NYG did, but they do it with their lb's, so the short game will be as imperative as it was in the Jax game.
The Chargers lay wood in the secondary, so our guys need to be on their toes, and secure the ball at all times.

The Chargers use of Sproles & Turner was very effective, especially considering LdT hasn't been effective against the Colts in a while.

This same team throttled the Pats in Foxboro last season, so the talent is there. Luckily, the Pats are healthier, and much more potent.

I agree the extra travel will not help them, and the Pats will have an extra day to prepare. In reality it become 2 days, as the Chargers will have to spend a half day traveling back to NE.
Chargers: Fly home, get in late tonight.
Mostly off tomorrow, and assess injuries.
Practice Tue-Friday.
Travel to NE Saturday, walk throughs.

Pats, probably got today off, get to work Mon-Fri, light work Saturday.

Tom Brady will have no problems, no need to worry. I think the only team the Pats have to worry about is the Packers............. LOL I'm just kidding. The only team that can beat the Pats is the Pats. Good luck the rest of the way.

Three things that stood out in today's game, though... the Chargers have a passing game, they have depth, and they hit hard. If they beat us those three things will be keys.

Nominally their running game is their strength but taking that away may not be enough. But the passing game depends on whether Rivers can handle the pressure or whether he cracks... he has yet to show he can handle it but if he does he can do a lot of damage.

i would be more nervous with volek considering our performance in the past with backup QB's.

Also statistically the chargers have been very good on defense in the past few weeks as compared to the pats as espn points out

While Patriots fans may be excited at the prospect of playing the Chargers instead of the Colts in the AFC Championship Game, they may want to think twice. Over the last part of the season, San Diego has arguably been a better team, especially on defense.
Chargers Patriots
W-L 8-0 7-0
PPG 28.5 29.9
Opp PPG 13.1 19.6
Opp rush YPG 84.8 108.4
Takeaways 24 11

hey guys, should be a good game as long as rivers starts. the bolts will be huge underdogs again, hopefully they make it a game. :)

Re: Official Pats vs Bolts AFCCG Thread

The 15 point spread is absolutely tempting. San Diego's defense is as physical as anybody, they force turnovers and can get to the Q-B. What happened in Week 2 was ages ago, under pristine conditions.

That defense is too good to lose by 15, unless Volek and Turner are starters.

Conference playoff games are almost never blow outs. A 15 point spread should be tempting.

Re: Official Pats vs Bolts AFCCG Thread

Well I watched their games last week and this week and didn't see a team that should be beating the Patriots. If we hold onto the ball we should win going away.

Now we get to listen to the idiot charger fans all week... can't wait

I'd take it. Like I said on the Colts board last week, the Pats SHOULD win, but it won't be a blowout. If you think it'll be a blowout, you're living in la-la land.

NE will shut the run down and put the game in either Rivers or Volek's hands... I think they may get a couple of scores in the game.. However, they will be playing catch up as TB and co march up and down the field...

Considering our average win this year is 19 points and the 7 wins we have over playoff teams is 17.8, I'm not sure I'd call it la-la land.

doesn't matter if it's a blowout or not.

only matters that we win, and we will.

of that, you can be sure.

You know what would help make this game a comfortable win for the Pats? Asante Samuel playing at the level he hopes to be paid at lol. He didnt have a great game against the Jags, which has already been covered, but if he comes out with a chip on his shoulder all worried about making his future money back, he could come out with a pick or two of Rivers. That way we may be able to have a nice relaxing 4th quarter with a comfortable lead haha. A scary statement given last years AFCCG but Rivers is no Manning and these Chargers are no 2006 Colts.

That was the Chargers super bowl. they blew their wad on that game. They will never get that emotional again. They will come here feeling confident that they will play as well, but they won't. They are already done and just don't know it yet.

Similar to the Jaguars in the WC round against Pittsburgh.

I'm really excited to see more of Meriweather in this game. I like the combination of speed and physical presence he brought on the field and I think he can be a tone setter if we need it.

SD is going to come out hyped as hell for this game, they'll have revenge on their mind for not only getting blown out earlier in the year but for getting bounced from the playoffs. Having someone else out there ready to lay out a tone-setting hit for some of the plays can only help.

They'll be gimped, they'll be flying all over and they'll be working on a day's less rest not to mention having played football nonstop for the last 10 or so weeks. But none of that matters if the Patriots get pushed around or out-hustled.

I already know whats going to happen when you lose next weekend. BB will turn red and cry, TB will suck his thumb after he breaks a nail. Bridgete Moynahan will be laughing. and I hope LT stomps all over midfield, and then pretends to film BB crying.

--Post Game conference--
"Congratulations on your perfect regular season record...We feel really bad for your team BB, so we are giving your team free tickets to Disneyland anyway." - Norv Turner

I hope Chargers win by a point in the most nailbiting final ever with lots of errors so you all can whine about it for a few months.

MA is full of mountain men who have never seen a razor. Ironic you play in that stadium.

Actually, you don't know. No one does.
In case you weren't aware, they haven't lost yet this season.
