I cannot give Garrard credit

Does anyone have an explanation for the secondary last night? the linebackers and linemen, and the offense played an awesome game, but the DBs did not show up last night. ive heard a lot of people say its a credit to david, but i call bs on that. if garrard was threading the needle like brady all night, i wouldnt have a problem with it, as there is no defense against something like that. however, there were recievers wide open on a constistant basis.

i understand that we only gave up twenty points, and the second half was only 6 points. but the secondary could not cover last night. and dont try to tell me that its because we committed to the run. when you commit to the run, you still have the capability to not leave guys 10 yards open on third and fourth downs all game

i dont think i have ever seen the pats dbs cover so terribly. asante looked like a rookie, gay looked like he was a ******, and the rest of them were chickens running around with their heads cut off.

now i'm not saying that this has been a reoccurring thing, or that i think that it will happen next week. i have confidence that bill will fix whatever it was. im just looking for an explanation, a reason, something. because i know our secondary is better than that.

I think we have to acknowledge that no secondary is going to shut down a good offense to the satisfaction of fans. Yes, at times they got tooled. But no, not in the second half, and I think you don't realize how good they were to shut down that offense in that half.

I also think it's totally ungenerous of you to tear down Garrard in any way whatsoever. He made great throws, he's indestructible in the pocket, and he is very smart, very accurate, very cool under pressure. What the HELL are you demanding of a QB that you did not see last night? This is insanity. We have one of the best teams in the history of the league and you can find one bad thing to say about Garrard?

Who are his receivers?

You don't understand the game or you wouldn't be removing the credit from Garrard's performance. Garrard was beaten, eventually, by a defense that is far better than you suspect.

Well, if Asante didn't have such a stinker of a game, it wouldn't have been that close.

All the credit in the world goes to Garrard. He made some big-time plays in that game.

i agree the secondary was attrocious last night and guys were wide open alot.

but garrard is still the truth. he made some great throws last night. the 2nd td pass with jarvis green in his face. the shouldve been 3rd td pass which was dropped, under heavy pressure and he hit his man right in stride. the first td pass when he was being dragged down. some of his moves in the pocket to avoid the rush. and the list goes on. he was fantastic last night

Also, him buying time and then throwing completions is all him. He ran around, broke tackles and made plays, if that isn't his doing, then I don't know what is.

You shouldn't take anything away from Garrard. A number of those receivers were "wide open" due to him avoiding the rush, and forcing the DBs to cover for far too long.

however, i dont think you understood me when i said "i cannot give garrard credit." it did not mean that he was a toolbag, it was meant to say that his greatness last night shouldnt have been great, but average. the point of the thread was not to rip garrard.
as for you saying the defense that is far better than i suspect, didnt i say "because i know our secondary is better than that"? did you read my post, or did you just read the thread title?

He had a great game. At the same time, he was throwing lobs under pressure for completions and I kept waiting for asante, thomas, harrison to pick off a couple of inaccurate lobs; although it never happenned as none of them were inaccurate(until the very end); I'd say a combination of luck & skill on Garrards part; I doubt he'd be able to consistently bring that kind of accuracy under pressure; but its a definite credit to him that he was able to step up under the spotlight (just like brady had a great game, stepped it up, and won't consistently have games with 140 qb ratings)

I give garrard credit in that he did a good job until the pats opened a lead and forced him into some rookie style mistakes. yes the coverage was horrible most of the time which made his life easier but he still got the ball off under some situations where the pocket was totally collapsed around him - including the TD pass I'm not sure should have counted (haven't reviewed it enough and not sure I care to).

I agree completely. Everyone all year just wants to talk about how he is just a "game mannager" and can't make the big throws downfield and then when he does they just make excuses about it. This is not a shot at anyone here just more a shot at the people at ESPN. He has all the ability to be a big time QB and he showed it last night. He wasn't quite as good as Brady, but no one is so thats not anything to get down about. The Jags do need to pony up the $ to extend him and get him a few weapons and then no one will be able to question if he is elite.

Garrard's 2 TD throws were really well done. no question. I agree the guy should be given bigtime kudos

I agree that Garrard played very well.

The 2nd TD pass was thrown to the perfect spot. No chance for the defender and with enough room for the WR to catch it in bounds.

On the 4th down play early that was a long throw, he could have scrambled for a 1st, thrown for a short gain first down or hit the long ball and he made the best decision. He deserves a lot of credit for playing very well.

Jacksonsville finally has a very solid competent QB. Maybe Jack DelRio will now get some of the credit he deserves. I believe he is one of the better coaches in the league. Jacksonville looks poised to be one of the better teams in the AFC again next year. It will be interesting to see the Colts/Jaguars games next year.

I haven't gone back to look at the whole game in detail, but I know that on the one Jaguars TD on the left side of the end zone that it was Asante's coverage and he got totally turned around and was no where near the receiver when the ball got there. Interesting when you spend $8M or so for a corner and he gets TDs thrown against him like that. Some team is in for a big surprise next year when they spend huge dollars and think they are getting a shut down corner.

I think he looked pretty darn good.

Only problem, he was facing the best QB that ever played the game. I am ready to say that now. Montana always in my mind, but you know what, Brady is just over the top good.

That takes NOTHING away from Garrard. He played one heck of a game. As well as the Jags.

Just met up with the wrong team at the wrong time.
