I am really surprised how much we missed Hobbs. I have always liked Gay, but he is no Hobbs! I hope he is back starting next week!

we missed hobbs huge on kickoffs. jackson does nothing on returns. could barely get past the 20.

Gay made 2 great plays in the 2nd half to help turn TDs into FGs. And we won. I agree we missed him on KRs but in the end it worked out because we ate up more clock that way.

i didnt even notice hobbs wasnt on the lineup....

but gay is NOT a starting corner, just a slot corner....

and yes, we did miss hobbs, add to that that asante played like crap in the first quarter...

Hobbs is this team's best cover DB. Without him in there tonight, the safeties had to play it straight and/or roll coverage to Gay, and couldn't stay over the top for Samuel.

The only guys in the secondary laying wood, were Merriweather & Harrison.
Gay & Samuel need to watch footage of Harris & Woodson playing today and learn how to hit.

Hopefully, Hobbs is ready to go next week.

for one thing.... Asante got burned.

the Pats defense every game plays conservative and plays coverage in the first half. they do not allow anything deep.

in the second half they start blitzing more....

we've seen this all season!!!!!!!!!

they've done this in the eagle game, in the baltimore game, in the giants game and i'm sure many other occassions i can't recall.

any corner is going to have a difficult time covering if they are asked to do so for over 4-5 seconds.

Gay did a good job. I'd like to see Hobbs back for kickoffs and as a dback but it is not the end of the world having gay in there. in fact he filled in nicely.

Hobbs came in the game in the second half.

Hobbs came in the game in the second half.

They seemed to spot him sparingly, I think out of desperation. They looked as confused in the secondary a number of times as I've seen them look since before Hobbs replaced Starks. I hope he's healthy next week because we will need him against Wayne with Harrison back.

'Sante won't be back because he's not worth $6M+. He's a very good player in a good system when it's working. He feasts on innacurate passers, and while there are a lot of those out there you don't see too many of them come playoff time.

While I agree that NE's secondary missed Hobbs, I'll also agree that Samuel could have played better. On one particular play he was about 8 yards out of position, and seemed to give up some easy receptions during the first half. He played better in the second half, and I think some of the secondaries problems came from expecting the Jags to run it more.

CB, ecspecially with Samuel gone is going to be the draft selection. Gay is solid, but only in pass packages. He's not someone who can cover one on one consistantly. We could improve at the CB play, definantly.

Desperation? The Pats were up on the scoreboard. This board is unreal at times. If Hobbs was in there then people would be bashing him. Now since Gay is out there apparently everyone is confused.

Maybe it was because they couldn't get a pass rush on Garrard and were forced to blitz.

I find it hilarious how people start blaming the secondary when the pass rushers weren't getting to Garrard.

Maybe the game was close because the Jags essentially slowed the game's tempo to snail pace. First half the Pats only had the ball 3 times.

Onc the Jags got down by two scores the game was essentially getting to be over and they were moving towards desperation.

Garrard did a good job of managing the game, but couldn't win it like Brady has done in the Colt and Giants game or even Baltimore.

Obviously I can't critique the secondary based on the little they show us on TV, but when I saw Gay all I saw was him making great plays.

What was I missing?

I'm not sure Hobbs would have done more than CJ on the kickoffs...the Jags coverage was pretty good.

that said, BB thinks Hobbs > Gay, so sure it hurts to be down a guy at one of the most important positions on the field

i agree... hobbs is a better cb than samuel.

i thought gay was ok... he missed one play that i noticed... hobbs is still our best cb, and yes, better than samuel.

anyone who thinks Hobbs > Samuel is delusional

i agree... hobbs is a better cb than samuel.

I hope you are drunk, tomorrow you can come back and re-read your post. Hobbs is better than Sameul?

Some facts
  • Samuel is better than Hobbs
  • Hobbs is better than Gay
  • Gay is better than whoever their fourth CB is.
