I sent the letter below directly to MacMullan at the Globe after Reading her article in today's Globe:

Ms. MacMullan,

I was extremely disappointed in your article, "New Tricks for Old Underdogs". Specifically, your comments;

"Get used to it. Even if New England runs the table at 19-0 and handily wins the Super Bowl, this issue isn't going away. There are too many football people, including coaches, general managers, players, and fans, who believe the Patriots are cheaters. With that comes a stubborn resolve never to acknowledge the accomplishments of this franchise.

That's on Belichick's head. He may be a brilliant tactician, but he grossly misjudged the effect of his arrogance on his own legacy, and that of his team."

The bolded statement was clearly just YOUR opinion which is so far from the truth, it's a LIE. You make me believe all that has been discussed and revealed never sunk through your thick skull. Most of the interviews with coaches told us that they felt this was going on forever & no big deal. Could you publish a list of coaches, general managers and players who believe the Patriots are Cheaters? If not, you should keep your opinions to yourself. Do you know who your audience is? Do you have a clue?

I know most Patriots fans are not bothered by spygate. We feel it just wasn't a big deal since there were no competitive advantages gained. Contrary to your statement, the issue has been going away...and it will go away. It has not tainted any of the Patriots accomplishments since the rule was not in place when they were achieved. I will be perfectly blunt with you Ms. MacMullan, your comments reflect your ignorance and blatant stupidity regarding the facts. We barely hear a word of spygate on televised media but we hear praises and accolades everyday.

Why would a reporter who writes for a newspaper whose readers LOVE their Patriots, write such ignorant comments regarding their team and the coach they love? Why did you not write of how much Belichik is loved by his players, fans and those close to him. You SHOULD want this to go away, yet your comments seem to reveal you desire that it does not. Can you explain this?

Why are the Patriots constantly being discussed as one of the best teams ever without a word of spygate on ESPN and the NFL network, yet YOU feel it was necessary to make comments with no facts to back you up.

You're as much of a jerk today and the day you were hired by the Globe. I suggest you start writing about figure skating or field hockey. Maybe you'll be more factual.

I ******* hated her after she kept whining and b**ching about Belichick being classless during last years playoffs. She purposely brought this crap up two days before the biggest game of the year.

I also sent her an email in response to her s*it last year during the playoffs. In return she had nothing good to say so she called me names.

Good letter by the way.

Would like to hear what she said??

Excellent letter. I'm sure it represents what most true Pats fans feel and believe.

C'mon dude, take it easy.

Jackie might be expressing her own opinion (that there are a lot of people who think the Patriots are cheaters), but it's not exactly a controversial one. I know plenty of people who feel that way. Most of those people are either biased or uninformed but they still feel that way.

Those people will never admit how great this team is. That sucks for everybody. Personally, I don't label BB a cheater, but it's hard to argue that this whole thing hasn't detracted from what has been otherwise an amazing season.

Another note, when you make comments like that field hockey jab you just come off as being sexist. I can't imagine that it's easy being the only notable female sportswriter in Boston. Still, I like her stuff better than Ryan, Shaughnessy or the other Globe guys.

I don't get how some fellow Pats fans get upset when someone says something negative about Pats. Who cares what they think, if you love the PAts thats all that matters. If someone said something bad about my wife, would I give a crap? No, I'd be like "I love my wife, why would I care about what someone said who doesn't even know her". Get it?

Well, this explains all the programming this week not to mention all the COTY awards Bill continues to garner...

The stubborn resolve to never acknowledge the accomplishments of this franchise is rooted primarily in a local media that skewered the national perception of both it's talent level since 2001 and it's HC's persona since he pissed off their peers in Cleveland by axing their binky and then did the same to their binky while also refusing to kiss their self important asses. Jackie's peers and mentors at the Globe and Herald, who labled Bill a liar and disingenuous pond scum before he ever set foot on the field as NE's HC, and who created the myth of the scheme trumping talent and players here, including a HOF QB, being products of the system.

Whatever, who cares what other teams fans or jealous insecure players, coaches and GM's, primarily failures in their own right, or mediots think. All that matters is what these players and this organization and it's fans think. And how many Lombardi's they can point to when ignorant idiots spew their crap... :blahblah: :blahblah:

Jeezus, I thought at least the long awaited resurgance of the Celtics would occupy Jackie for a while...she must be lobbying for Borgie's Boston HOF voting card if anyone can wrest it away from him...

Thank you PatriotsReign, I support your letter and your sentiments but you know there are plenty of posters on here who do not like you putting down someone who craps on our team, and will defend any of them from Mercury "drug dealer" Morris to Earl "lights off" Campbell In addition to the Email you should have sent her a coupon for some shampoo.

I fell in love with the Pats during the late 80s/early 90s, aside from a personal tie to NH, precisely because they were the objects of scorn. When they gradually became very popular and 'glamorous' I began to feel a bit lost, frankly - I've got to have that whole "outsider/misfit" thing going. Now that they are universally reviled (or at least portrayed as being such), I feel as if they are MY team again! Bring on the hate, the more the better!!!! Like food to a starving man...:singing:

Well the tone of the letter is a bit over the top, but I think McMullen should chew on it a bit and consider the feedback she is getting from her readers. The writer SHOULD consider the audience. This higher than thou morality is getting to be a tired schtick. Perhaps she would be happier and better off moving to Indy to cover "Saint" Dungy instead. :p

As Pitino said truthfully - The negativity in this town sucks and it stinks.

First, I am sexist when it comes to football and I'm fine with that. I'd never want to hear a woman be the lead announcer of a big game...it just doesn't work for me.

Secondly, you DON'T say the things she said when you write for the #1 newspaper in New England. She makes it obvious she has personal issues regarding BB and that just doesn't belong in her article.

I actually toned the letter down before I sent it:D

this issue is totally taken the wrong way by Pats fans. it is inarguable that we cheated.

here are the contents of the memo the letter the NFL sent in 2006:

"Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines"

then the Pats did exactly that. they cheated by breaking a rule the NFL made crystal clear. here is what Goodeel said:

""This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field," Goodell said in a letter to the Patriots. "

but guess what? everyone cheats. just learn to be ok with that, and you'll be more at peace with the team

but dont act like ***** and complain when you were caught cheating. do the crime, do the time

the fact is that 100% of observers SHOULD say that we cheated, b/c that is exactly what happened. but it's not that big of deal

dude, just stop. Why are you trolling on a site of a team your supposedly a fan of? You already argued this to a standstill in several other threads and now your trying to bump this to get another reaction. We get it "Make my way homer, I like this team less than I like pandering to the national mob in the hopes that they'll see me as reasonable and above the rest of my stupid fan base." Problem is you picked the wrong issue to take your stand, and are just as much of an uncritical media sheep as those who won't question anything Pats.

no, other Pats fans should stop. just embrace the fact that we got caught doing something similar to what other teams do, and you'll be happier.

I'm not making any "argument". I'm simply stating what happened. if that's trolling to you, then you should just stop.

I've been trying to figure out why you don't mind making a fool out of yourself for weeks on end. Can you help us out and explain yourself? Being a loyal Patriots fan like yourself, don't you love Bill Belichik?

No one is doing that or talking about it.

Why are you stating it here and now? Answer: you want attention. Congrats.
