I don't think there has ever been a greater LB performance in Patriots history than what McGinest did against the Jaguars in the playoff game on January 7th 2006

8 Tackles,6 Solo - 4.5 Sacks and the unmentioned pressure he constantly put on Gerrard and Leftwich in that game.

It was just a found memory of one of the greatest performances at the LB position I had ever witnessed in 1 game for New England.

When looking back at that game,I do miss Willie on the team in the playoffs and hope one of our 2007 roster LBs can have this type of game.

Complete game Stats from that memorable performance...

broke the playoff single game sack record
and playoff career sack record
in one game
i miss you Willie!

I was thinking about Willie when Colvin went down several weeks ago. He was quick off the line and one of the smartest OLBs I've ever seen. Not only did he dismantle the Jags, but he was a bona-fide Colt killer! What a treat to watch this guy play on our team!

his most underrated attribute was his contain against the run

his best attribute was his ability to completely control his blocker, and do whatever he wanted with him

Yeah I know Willie did say a few harsh words about the Patriots once he left,or at least the media said he did but I will always love big #55.

You could always count on him being in at the right time and place when the big games came around .

I certainly hope Adalius Thomas plays the OLB position at least 1/2 the man McGinest was at the OLB position in the playoffs - Willie was the best playoff LB in a Patriots uniform ever IMO - And that includes being even better at LB in the playoffs than the immortal Andre Tippett

i still dont understand how he was an 8 seed in that bracket by the herald, thats absolute horse *%$(

Willie # 55 Mc Ginest ? one of my favourite ever players in Pats history; no doubt

I'm glad somebody dragged up that great game performance. It was almost too good to be true.

That was one of those LB performances that makes me wonder what credit should also be given the guys up front. After all, in our system the guys up front are not necessarily the penetrators, but more often the guys who each tie up two guys. Willie may owe them the way that Tom owes his OL.

Whatever, Willie certainly made the most of it. NFL history was in the making.

I was at that game. He couldnt be stopped. Leftwitch held the ball way too long. McGinnest just powered through everyone. Ben Watson's rumblin, stumblin TD on 3rd down too. Someguy in front of us was drunk and texting, and I was like "Yo its 3rd down, get up." Just in time for the play. Then I said something like "Arent you glad I said that."

Some guy also predicted the Play Action to David Givens for a TD. That was cool.

The guy had some awesome clutch plays and whole clutch games.

Regarding the "extra gear" thread -- there sure was an extra gear when Willie was here.

the godfather (as rodney calls him) was the best of the best when the game was on the line. i think this is vrabel's year to make our eyes pop

True. Before this year, Vrabel was very McGinest-like in his ability to step up, all the way back to the first Super Bowl win, and even before at the Pats' expense when he was a Steeler.

This year, by way of contrast, he's just been awesome all the way through. :)

another memory
Ben Watson catch and run shrugging off defenders..out running them..bouncing off. it was an amazing play. also Asante pick 6. Wilson had a big hit that game ..Faulk was unstoppable

Don't forget Watson's fumble that André Davis recovered on the 3 yard line that led to a TD.
