From all the *****ing Colt fans have done about their injuries, you would think they set a record for most games missed and most players on IR. They aren't even close. http://sportsline.com/nfl/injuries

I believe the 2003 Pats still own the record for the # of different starters.

I don't know what that link is supposed to show, it's just the IR guys and the last game. It does show the number of missed starts. I'm not sure how many the Pats had in 2003, but the number I read for the Colts was right around 90 starts missed. I'm not sure if that included the final game in that count, I read that article right around that time, but I don't know if it was just before or just after that final game.

I love the "this player doesn't contribute enough" comments

Workhorse: where did you find the #starts missed for the Colts? I can't find it for the Pats.

I find that 90 number hard to believe, given that the Colts had only ONE starter go on IR, the same as the Pats. I also think with the injuries to Neal and Kazcur, the Pats probably lost the same number of starter games as the Colts OL. The only difference was that when a Colt OLman was out, it was front page new, when the Pats OLman was out it was hardly mentioned.

As for the rest Mike Wright, Sammy Morris, David Thomas, and Chad Scott were all expected to be key contributors before they went down to injury. I didn't recognize a single name from the Colt IR list except McFarland and Freeney.

I can't be happier that the Colts are actually in better health than the Pats (thought this year has to be the best year of health the Pats have had since 2001). I don't want to hear Colt fans whine when they are knocked off in a couple of weeks....and it won't even be that close.

That's a great list. Dallas and San Diego are in the best shape as far as injuries, and the Pats also faired pretty well. I can't believe Dallas had only 2 players on IR all year. Incredible.

Jags have lost alot of manpower throughout the year.

Its no excuse, ever, to me, but when you start counting "starters" from the opening game?

Rob Morris out for the year, Freeney out for the year, Harrison what 12 games. I mean there is roughly 30 games right there, just off the top of my head.

There is tons more, I don't think the O line has been intact since week 8 maybe? With Ugoh missing a bunch, Ryan Diem multiple games, that is both of your tackles.

Raheem Brock, Robert Matias, Anthony Gonzalez, all missed multiple games. Clark, Addai, Bob Sanders all miss at least one game, if I remember right.

And you have guys who were on the team, but you don't ever think of like Morehead and Roy Hall put on IR.

I mean I don't put any stock into it and its next man up and all, but this is the worse year for the Colts I've ever seen.

Here is the snipet:

"Seventeen starters have missed a total of 88 starts. Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney is on injured reserve, as are defensive tackle Anthony "Booger" McFarland and linebacker Rob Morris. Pro Bowl wide receiver Marvin Harrison has missed 11 of the past 12 games with a knee problem."

thanks for the link, speed. I was hoping a team-reference, but at least we know for sure that it's 88. I have a feeling I'm going to have to hand-count the Pats seasons...

Anytime, glad I could help.

I've searched for quite some time, and I can't even find a list of Pats players and which weeks they missed. Time to put out the search warrant: somebody find this data!!

This is all I've got:
Through 7 games in 2003, 14 starters missed 40 games, with 3 of those lost for the season, so thats 27 more with just those additional 3 that were put on IR.
Considering that 2003 was the least injury-riddled of the record-setters (see previous posts) and this was only the beginning of the season, that's just astonishing.

Honestly? Does it matter? Up until this year the Colts never had a hangnail now the bug has bitten them. Oh well, it's a game, have good reserves. Colts fans never wanted to see injury as an excuse so I'll be damned if I'm going to listen to them use it as one (I know, not you Speed).

The Colts owned this league statistically speaking, for years. This year, BB beat them at their own game and we came in and snatched all the records. To top it off, we did it in the year where they finally won. Guess what? Nobody cared and all the attention went to the enemy, again.

All they have left is the injury crap. Let them have it. I don't think we need to join their argument and point out that we're better at being injured too. Sorry if I offended anyone, I didn't mean to.

How about we all stop whining about the whining and enjoy the playoffs.

Why does any of this matter. Last time I checked there is no award for "we would have won if it wasn't for injuries."

Although many Colt fans think COY should be that award.

I believe that the great Rich Gosselin compiles this stat annually for the Dallas Morning News. Perhaps a Google on his name might turn it up.

Part of the reason that the Colts number is so high is some of the back ups were getting hurt when they were starters. There were back ups pressed into service on the o-line that got hurt will they were starters and they missed time and Moorehead became a starter when Marvin went down, then he went on the IR.

Along with the snippet from the Star, I read an article on Sportsline (I believe) that had the number just over 90.

Good tip. Got nothing yet, but I'm still looking. Funnily enough, one of my searches turned up your post- that's FAST indexing!

As for why we care- I don't care, persay, but it's another stat to know and one less excuse for the Colts.

Actually 3, Booger McFarland, Rob Morris, Dwight Freeney

P.S. You like my asterisk?
