Weird time. I think everyone will largely be on board with (1) but not (2) and (3).

1) We haven't played a game that was critical to winning the Superbowl since 12/9 against Pittsburgh. That's a month ago. Sure we had to win some games to round out the season but once we beat Pittsburgh the #1 seed was a virtual lock. Sure we've played some big undefeated games but it's weird to be back to a game that matters for a possible Superbowl win.

2) God help me but I'll be OK with this season if we don't win the Superbowl. Now, winning it is humongous - it makes us the greatest team and dynasty ever (certainly since the SB started) IMO. However a 16-0 regular season has never been done before. An undefeated regular season hasn't been done in 35 years. And I'll be damned if I'll look back at this as a lost season if we lose one of the next three games.

3) Again, God help me but if the Patriots get knocked out I might root for the Colts. Certainly over Jax, Dallas, Seattle, NYG and SD. Not sure about GB. I hate the Colts, I hate Manning and going from one time winners to back to back winners would be HUGE for them. But. I've spent the last month explaining to people why they suck for hating the Patriots and Brady for being so good and telling them that they should celebrate greatness, not be jealous of it. And to be consistent with that, and I do believe it, how can I root for schmucks like Romo, Rivers, Ellie, etc, over Peyton who, while I don't like him, is clearly a championship quality QB.

Oh, can it. I expect better from you.

This is the goddang playoffs fer crissakes!!!!! Every game is all there is and this polishing the regular season trophy crap is really getting in my craw.

Stop it!!!!!!!

Most won't agree now, I'm sure, but within a couple years when some Charger troll is bragging about being 9-0 we'll tell him to stuff it and come back when he is 16-0. Everyone is saying 16-0 is meaningless, but it isn't. It is not the ultimate but not meaningless, either. It is a tremendous accomplishment.

Live in the moment. Revel in the glory of an perfect regular season. High five yourself. Stick a pin in the bum of those unable to understand the historical significance, and unable to take pleasure in life's accomplishments.

If we lose, the those constipated folks will change their tune and toot away once they understand that any team, even the best, can have a bad game.

I would (and will) root for the Colts over the Chargers, but I would root for JAX if they beat us. Superbowl? I will be on the side of the NFC team in the superbowl. Like you, though, I'll have a tough time with Green Bay.

Bottom line, not winning the superbowl will be a huge disappointment, but it will not make me think the season was a failure.

Old timers will be reminded of the 1976 season. I don't think anyone considers that season a failure, even though we didn't make it to the superbowl. Those too young or too new as fans to remember the Patriots of '76 will just have to take Ex-Lax until the truth appears to them.

Snap out of it, man! We're all a little nervous, but no need to borrow trouble. I'm going into the playoffs feeling utmost confidence in this team. As for rooting for the Polians by default: No need to root for anyone if by some act of God we don't make it. But we will, and you'll look back and laugh at this thread.

A SB win is a must. The jackals, hyenas and carrion birds are just waiting to pounce. They will descend on this team in a frightening onslaught if our boys should lose.

If the Pats lose and the Colts win, there will be serious debate by those who already hate our team, that the Colts are the true dynasty of this era, and the Pats "tainted" SBs should have been belonged to the Indy Poliannas anyway. This debate will grow and the echo will change forever the perception of the Pats past victories in football history.

For that reason, the only thing worse than the Pats not winning the SB would be the Colts winning it.

Also, I have to laugh at Pats fans who seem to have developed a strange Pavlov dog's attachment to the Poliannas.

This is the franchise whose greedy, despicable ownership (whose heir still runs the team) destroyed a generation of the best football fans in America.

This is the franchise whose manipulation of rules committees have changed the physical punishing game of football we grew up with into a ****ified arena league where even an old school die hard like BB had to change his ways to have a chance to win.

This is the franchise that ruined our chance to tie the Steelers as the only team ever to win 4 in 6, and did so under questionable circumstances.

This is the franchise whose hypocrtical Jesus complex coach called our team and coach a disgrace and suggested the Patriots were the Barry Bonds of football, jumping to kick us when we were down.

This is the franchise that believes God himself was on their righteous side in allowing them to win the SB, and announced so at the SB podium following their pathetic slog fest vs. the Chicago putzes.

I despise the Colts, and grind my teeth when Patriot fans et. al. leap to their defense like good Pavlov dogs jumping through hoops.

I'm actually with you to an extent on (2), but I'm still debating whether you should burn in hell for (3). ;)

Seriously, though, I'll be (very?) upset if the Pats don't win the Super Bowl, but that doesn't take away the fact that they accomplished something that hasn't been done in 35 years. [NFLshop.com is selling 16-0 gear--I think in and of itself, that says something.]

You know what? You reinvigorated my hate! I was one of them. Not anymore! Go Chargers! (puke) Thank you, my good man!

The undefeated season was Last year. I look at it that way ,and I'm pretty sure the players do too. Its a New season and everyone IS 0-0, that being said I expect the Pats to come out on a mission to win the SB. I also truly believe that going 16-0 is a greater accomplishment than winning the SB, how many times has it been done before we all know .......NEVER in a 16 game regular season.

When asked, most of the talking heads say that if we don't win then the whole season was a failure and I didn't disagree with them...then one said No, look at it this way, every year someone wins the SB, never has a team gone 16-0!

That said, it'll sting for at least the off season if we don't win

The only one I don't agree with is 3, and that is because if the Pats got knocked out I would cheer for the Jags.

I don't care if people think I'm a pathetic loser, if we do lose in the playoffs, I'm buying some 16-0 stuff.

Of course, I'm really saving for the massive influx of 19-0 shirts, etc.

Well said, my friend. The Colts are our mortal enemy.

Yeah, get it on sale.

Put me in the camp with those that agree with 1 and 2, but totally disagree on 3. Also, I think this thread is a sign that we're all getting a little loopy waiting 2 weeks for a game. Dear lord please let us get to Saturday quickly!

Baltimore best fans?? They weren't even selling out the stadium when they left. Despicable to leave for sure. But, let's not embellish it too much. Cleveland is the town that screwed in that deal. Lost their team when they were selling out! Good thing that happened or Belichick may have never come to New England though.

I guess when you go 2-14, 0-8 in consecutive years, trade John Elway, have the cheapest owner in the league, and have an ownership group despised around the league, you deserve sellouts. Pleeze. The Baltimore Colt fans were die hard and dedicated as any in the NFL, more so with the legacy of greatness around that franchise. The worst is, the Irsays not only stole the franchise from that city, but also its history. Unitas now belongs to Indianapolis franchise in everything but memory.

The great fans of KC, as diehard as they come, weren't even going to Chief games late this season after the debacle wrought by the Herminator. What the Irsays inflicted on Baltimore in the early 1980s was much worse. They basically tanked like the dirty owner in the Movie "Major League". Get your history straight.

BelichickFan, If you're able to read this, some bandwagon fan has hacked into your account.

If there is a computer wherever you're being held hostage, try to log in, or make a new account.

This is urgent. It's the playoffs.

Gee, did you miss the Giants game? No, it wasn't critical for a Super Bowl, but it was critical for a 16-0 season, which in turn is critical to produce a perfect 19-0 season and football immortality.

Relax, already.

IMO 16-0 is meaningless, it's icing on the cake if you will. The goal for this season and every season is to win the SB, anything short of that is failure to a certain degree. It's playoff time and if they do go on to win, you can then talk about the season as a whole with the 16-0 and all the records as bookends to the Lombardi Trophy.
