TJ Simers at the LA Times defines the Chargers

Phillip Rivers is probably my least favorite player in the NFL right now but what should the Chargers have done at the end of the game? Shuffle their feet and say 'aw shucks sorry you didn't have your guys?'

It was the franchise's first playoff win in over a decade, of course they should be happy.

I loved how at the end of the game last weekend LT had this glowing look on his face. I kept waiting for the music from when Homer Simpson uses his lucky bat at softball games to kick in. That guy is such a loser. Come on man, you beat the Titans. They were horrible. It's not much of an accomplishment. Hey, I guess if that's what success tastes like....

At his postgame interview he said "I told coach i'm jumping high I told the team I am jumping, I knew I had to jump high and I knew that I could jump high" he kept going on about how high he had to jump ignoring the fact that he got stopped when he went high and at last moment he mentioned that he stuck the ball over just in case. Arrogant SOB nice second effort play against the sixth. I just pray that half of the Colts get pnumonia and the Chargers get lucky so that Pats could CRUSH them.

The Chargers rub me wrong too, but in all fairness the guy has played 7 years in the NFL and just won the first playoff game of his life. Who wouldn't glow a little?

Heh,

I'd be jumping for joy too if I won a game where my team had been held scoreless for the first 2/3 of it.....

I'd love to see SD come to Foxboro. Please... oh please make it so.

Sure they should be happy but i bet if we were in the same situation brady or BB would say we should have done better.

happy with the win? Yes. Pleased by the way they played? No

Be careful what you wish for.

Be careful what you wish for.

Why?

Oh, is it because you think that, if by some miracle (for which I, too will be hoping) SD beats Indy, they have better than a puncher's chance of beating the NEP in MA?

Sorry. Not gonna happen. In fact, I fear an Indy blowout of the SuperClasslessers will leave the dolts healthy and rested for the AFCC.

P.S.: Could you please let Merrimoid know that if he "takes out" Payaton on Sunday, Roger Clemens will leave an unused box of "Vitamin B-12" at a PO box of his choosing? Thanks.

No need, Rodney supplied him earlier in the year.

its okay, after the Jags run all over the Pats D and control the clock the Pats are gonna be crying their perfect season is over.

then all the Bandwagon media and fans can jump back off, and then all we'll hear is how they are just like the Colts, best record in years and couldn't get the job done.

o and 1 more thing....classless would be being up by 20 and 30 something vs the bills in field goal range and going for it on 4th and 1 (2 times), yay go Pats! This is the NFL not college you don't get bcs points for running up the score.

It's called playing 60 minutes of football.

His exact quote was: "I can jump high, and I'm classy. I guess you could say I'm a classy, high jumper, who is very, very classy, and can touch the sky, because I jump so high.............., and am classy. Nobody is going to outjump me, and nobody is going to outclass me, because I'm a classy, high jumping SOB, who can really jump.........in a classy way." :)

LOL This columnist not only has the Spanos pegged, not to mention classy's teamates, he's got the fanbase pegged.

"When Spanos bought the Chargers in 1984, as he recounted in his book, "Sharing the Wealth," he wrote, "we'll spend whatever it takes for productive personnel, and, within five years, deliver a Super Bowl to Chargers fans."

Now 24 years later the Goofs' father/son quest for a Lombardi Trophy continues -- the Chargers compiling an overall mark of 177-206 under their leadership.

Marty Schottenheimer became an NFL head coach the same year Spanos bought the Chargers, and working three less seasons while in between jobs, Schottenheimer is 200-126.

Schottenheimer, the poster coach for flopping in the postseason, has more playoff wins than all the teams mismanaged by the Goofs.

The Chargers were 14-2 under Schottenheimer, the No. 1 seeding with home-field advantage until the Super Bowl, but gagged in a divisional playoff game against New England. Someone obviously goofed, so Schottenheimer was fired.

The Chargers are much better off this season, we're now being told, finishing 11-5 and knocking off the mighty Titans.

The small-town fans, given a forum by the San Diego Union-Tribune, are once again giddy and ripe for a major letdown."

1) I'm sure that we'll be hearing from you on Sunday if this happens. Just make sure to show up if it doesn't, too.

2) If I'm in FG range (or even just inside the 50) and it's 4th and 1, I'll go for the 1st down, every time. It keeps not only the clock moving, but also our AARP LBs off the field.

Actually, it's because his teammate pushed him from behind that allowed him to lean forward and then reach the ball over the goalline. It's against the rules but hardly every called...
