In light of the recent comments from both Spicer and Delrio, do you feel that a whooping is coming down on the jagoffs. I know they are not a bad team and all, but they are certainly not a powerhouse either. Thier big, but so slow. I just can't see them going head to head with Moss and Welker and Asante. It is also in our house on a decent day for passing and no doubt a very hostile envioment due to the "spearing" comments. I'm seeing a big score here guys. Your thoughts?

Its the playoffs, it is foolish to expect anything but hard fought, tough, and close game.

I realize that, but somehow this feels different.

I don't think it will be close by the end of the game.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, the Pats had a hard time stopping Jones-Drew last year and the Pats got pretty dinged up in the process. I expect more of the same this Saturday...but with the same result. A Pats win.

i would love 3 blowouts straight.

I'm a godamn nervous wreck. I can't watch espn or nfl network b/c i don't want to hear anything about the nfl. I ignore everything until the actual games.

. Your thoughts?

I wouldn't discount a blowout because it's possible that they cannot cover, and that they won't get sufficient pressure on Brady to disrupt him. In that case, and it has to be a somewhat likely case, the Jags will get carved up.

I think most of it depends on the pressure they can create. Without Stroud and possibly other people up front, I have my doubts. The Pats are a very good offense versus the blitz too. I wouldn't hold my breath thinking that the Jags' defense can stop the Pats.

I am still not willing to bet on that. It's the playoffs, anything can happen, the bounce of the ball, the timing of penalties, the mood of the officials, the officials' angles of sight on specific plays down the field, turnovers, etc. Too many variables. I know when to say "no thanks" to a bet.

But if I were forced to pick a score it would have to be a double-digit win for the Pats. I think 10-14 points is reasonable.

I also like David Garrad as a human being, but I cannot buy into his game management style as a way to win a championship. To win a championship you need to take more risks than he does. I am not impressed with scrambling ability, in general, as it seems more a result of broken containment than anything else. The Pats generally don't break down like that so I just don't expect him to have much success on the ground.

The question is: What has he got in his tank to win a game with his arm when his team is 2-3 TDs behind? I just don't see it.

Between them and the Chargers I see a big drop off at QB between them and their opponents this weekend. Let's face it - QB does count. Let's also face it - Garrad is no Randall Cunningham with his legs, and Randall never won a championship despite being a pretty good pocket passer.

Anybody seeing a Jags' win Saturday either has a crystal ball or is suffering a dementia type thing.

Over the least few weeks, the Pats only played a solid complete game against Pitt, imho.
Miami was junk, and the 21 pt win could have been 51.

I think JDR will be outcoached, similar to Tomlin, but I think Jax's balance could result in a NYG type game.
The Pats gave up 28 to Eli and the Giants w/o Shockey.

Although, if they win by 14, I consider that a blowout in the playoffs.

I like Gerard also, but going head to head with Brady. NO F'n way he even comes close. I'm not looking to bet on the game or anything, it's just that I have this "gut" feeling that the Pats and BB are really pissed with this team now. I don't care if they win by one, but feel it's going to be much much more.

Quick: name a Jag DB..... How about a Jag receiver?
Even if Garrard has a career day it isn't enough. Brady goes through that defense like a hot knife through butter. Jags run tough but if everything goes right--and I don't think it will because I have too much confidence in the NE defense--they get 24 points. That's not gonna be nearly enough against Brady et al. Pittsburgh got 29 on 'em and Roethlisberger had 4 TOs (3 picks). Sorry but I just cannot buy the Jags as a serious threat.

Ditto! My sentiments exactly.

I could come up with several ways the Patriots will beat the Jags and some of those would be blow outs.

I can only really come up with two ways Jax can beat us:

A) We fumble, throw picks, suffer breakdowns and hand them the game - similar to the Denver playoff game.

B) They shorten the game by doing what they really do not do (even though everyone thinks they do) and that is running the ball and controlling the clock. If they can somehow limit the amount of possessions our offense has and hold us to field goals (as the Giants did for a while) then they would have an outside shot at eeking out a 3 point win.

I do not see A or B happening, as in the end talent wins football games and New England is the most talented, by far, of the two teams. Do a quick positional comparison and you won't be selecting too many Jags.

I guess you don't watch much football besides the pats. I'm pretty sure you know of Rashean Mathis, and if you don't, he'll be the guy, "covering" Moss for the game. I agree that most of our WR's are unknown, but that has alot to do w/ our running game, and the fact Garrard spreads the ball around pretty well. Reggie Williams definitely has the ability to break some long gainers if you let him and he isn't afraid to go across the middle. While I don't expect a Jags win, I seriously doubt NE will blow us out. No team has really blown us out this year besides NO and Indy which mostly was a result of DG being out of the game. Here's to a good, injury free game.

Jones-Drew had impressive numbers, but they were aided remarkably by the flukiest run you will ever see.

19 carries 131 yards 2 TDs.

Minus the 74 yard run where TBC thought he had already been tackled that is really:

18 carries
54 yards
3 ypc

He can average 3 ypc all day for all I care.

Minus the 74 yard run where TBC thought he had already been tackled that is really:

Fluke runs still count. Just like the Addai 70+ yard run in the Indy game. They need to limit that by better tackling...and certainly better tackling like in the Giants game (Rodney, I'm looking in your direction).

Rashean Mathis, Reggie Nelson... Reggie Williams, Matt Jones. Those guys (except Mathis) were all recent 1st round picks. Not that draft position means much.

Mathis is a great corner but he doesn't have the ability to step with Moss all game, especially not in single-man, and he too often goes for the big play, which will hurt against Moss who can run sluggo routes like no other, forcing Mathis to commit for an INT then taking off downfield with two, three steps on him.

FWIW, Sporting News has the Patriots winning 39-10... usually they dial their expectations down a notch (they had a close game in New York though not as close as it actually was, and a close game in Baltimore and Pittsburgh).

For all the matchup talk, I really don't think the Jaguars match up well with the Patriots at all. The run defense isn't as porous as the media wants it to be, and the Jaguars will give up big plays. If the Patriots get up early, Garrard will start to make mistakes and the Patriots will win it running away. If the Jaguars get up early, they'll need to grind the game out carefully, because the Patriots are always one play away from getting back in it.

Not for nothing, but if JDR is foolish enough to have Mathis cover Moss alone, everyone will know his name because he'll be getting smoked all day.

I do not expect a blow-out for the simple reason that the Pats have a pattern which has re-appeared since the mid-point of this year. They will play one really strong half and struggle a little in the other half. That is the way they play lesser teams and the Jags are a lesser team on paper.

I predict another game where we need to hold our breath. The main thing I don't want to see is the Pats take a lot of injuries against a dirty cheapshot team.

i'm confident of a pat's win on saturday, but i expect to be nervous during the second and much of the third quarter. JAX will definitely NOT be "just happy to be here." they remember our game last december and they had the experience of blowing a lead and then coming back to win last weekend. so, they're coming in with a workmanlike attitude and have a chip on their shoulder.

I like that analogy. Ah waiter: I'll have the Smoked Mathis please, with a side of Moss Jubalante. :D
