Last year Del Rio said someone should spear Brady. Nothing like advocating a potential spinal injury. Belichick's comments were great: "Considering Tom's great games over the years against Jack Del Rio's defenses, you can understand the frustration ... I'm all for supporting your players, but it was a little surprising to hear he said that."

Anyway, my prediction is the Jags lose BIG. Beyond the grudge match, this is a team that's badly outmatched. Despite people think Del Rio's job is safe, I think he gets fired at the end of the season. His job security has been in question all year, and a humiliating loss will show the organization that this is still a second or third tier team. Pats will run it up, and rightfully so.

Huh? He's going to get fired b/c he lost to perhaps the greatest team of all time? Don't hold your breath.

No, he will be fired because the organization has felt this is team has Super Bowl talent for awhile. They lost twice to the Colts, have a ton of talent, and will show again that are outclassed in the coaching department.

if he spent the same amount of talking time to prepare his team well, his team would not loose. His team is going to loose on Sat. Talk all you want and you go home with nothing.

somebody don't want to shut up and put up.

I don't think his job status is in doubt, he did a good job with the team after taking a huge leap of faith in Gerrard and canning the Black Drew Bledsloe. However, he still has a lot to learn. I was thrilled seeing him leading the cheerleading squad in the first half, knowing full well that he still doesn't quite get what the playoffs are all about.

I don't know which I have a harder time believing: 1. You have inside knowledge of the Jax personnel department's self-evaluations, or 2. The Jax personnel dept. believes that the team has had "Super Bowl talent for a while."

We will see when all is said and done. profootballtalk.com is certainly full of unfounded rumors, but they also have a lot of stuff that is true. Multiple times this year they have talked about Jacksonville having big expectations and Del Rio's job being in jeopardy. Lots of coaches have made it into the playoffs- sometimes deep into the playoffs- and still gotten fired. We'll see. My guess is a Patriot blowout and he goes. Anyone with a brain knows how talented that Jags team is... do you really think Jack Del Rio is going to win a Super Bowl?

You must be out of your mind. Del Rio's job is very secure here in Jacksonville, and absent a certain 16-0 team, he might have had a serious case for coach of the year. Also, Jack didn't advocate injuring Brady's spine, it's just the old adage: "the quarterback most go down, and go down hard." I think even patriot fans would agree that the best chance to beat the pats is to pressure Brady. If you give him time, we all know he'll make you pay for it.

There's a difference between pressuring and spearing. Spearing is against the rules. Pressuring, hitting hard, and tackling properly are not illegal.

I don't understand what's so hard to grasp. Del Rio even specifically used the word "spear".

He said the quote was taken out of context, maybe it was, and maybe it wasn't. I'm not here to stir things up, just wanted to talk a little football w/ the Pats fans.

Okay, well, I've read the whole quote and I don't see another way of taking it. However, I'm used to the BB school of reporter-talk, so I'm not used to hearing a professional NFL coach say something so ridiculous.

As for talking football, excellent! Come over here and do some JAX analysis: http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/showthread.php?t=73083
We could use some!

I think this is obviously out of context and the word 'spearing' wasn't used to advocate a specific maneuver.

The Jag player let up and it cost their team something. I'm sure Del Rio meant that the Jag player should have hit Brady instead of anticipating the slide and easing off. Makes sense to me.

Since Belichick commented on it, though I'm guessing this will actually carry a little weight as bulletin board material unlike some of the other stuff that the media tries to blow out of proportion.

Wow you pats fans like bringing up the past dont you? Discussing a hit (which wasnt fined) from over a year ago. Also Paul Spicer's comments from the start of the season..

Maybe us jag fans should whine and cry about the fumble call at the end of last years game on our would have been game winning drive...it looked awfully like the famous Tom Brady tuck rule...Or how about we just discuss the merits of the upcoming game and not cry about the past?

Well the media has to make their story if there isn't one, so ESPN took the liberty of unearthing Paul Spicer's comments about, "spygate" from several months ago. I can admit it, the Jags aren't a sexy team, and it's probably a network's worst nightmate to watch us continue in the playoffs, but either way I'll be watching.

Discuss the upcoming game here: http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/showthread.php?t=73083

Discuss the tuck rule with your favorite NFL rulebook.

They may not be a sexy team in terms of the product on the field but they are the sexy pick right now. You should enjoy it.

From 2001-2004 the Patriots were the team that were typically not sexy on the field but won games in whatever way they could and there's something to be said for that.

and it's probably a network's worst nightmate to watch us continue in the playoffs, but either way I'll be watching.

Nah, all but 2 teams in the NFC and Titans were the networks' worst nightmare.

It is painful to watch Vince, "Uncle Rico," Young throw the ball.
