How good is the Jags secondary ?

Their secondary is definetly their weakness, but this team is still pretty solid all the way around. I would state they have a rookie safety in Nelson and their linebacking core is not that experience either. The pats should be able to exploit them in the passing game.

I think CB Mathis is the best in the league. Other than that, they're thin. The short passing game ought to slice them up.

On a very decent defense, it is their liability. Jags have a good defense, but I think they have some very bad match-up issues against us. Also, part of the secondary issue is the fact that they really don't have a great pressure rusher either.

Mathis reminds me of Asante, he jumps routes similarly IMO. I think the danger comes when they rush the passer. If Brady has time to throw, it's lights out.

Thanks for the info guys,good stuff.I saw Big ben when he wasn't throwing interceptions he seemed to march down the field in the passing game.Tom Brady should have little trouble, providing the offensive lne gives him time.

Not good. After Mathis, the talent drops off severely. The Pats' 3- and 4-wide formations will force Jax deep into their nickel and dime talent where they are very thin.

He's a ballhawk, but he didn't guess too well this season. Last year he made the Pro Bowl as many corners do on the strength of double digit picks. This year he didn't, as he doubled his season total with the two against Ben on Saturday.

Reggie Nelson has impressed me in the Jag games that I have watched. As a rookie he seems to play with a lot of confidence and has produced with 5 picks.

He seems to be a ball hawk so look for Brady to try and bait him.

and look for Brady to attack Sammy Knight and Brian Williams all game because Knight is very slow and Williams wont be able to cover any fast wr really who runs good routes

He says he's going to play but he hasn't been medically cleared yet so it's kind of unlikely that he'll play a lot, if at all.

I read some posts on a jag message board about how their DB's are weak as a whole so I get the feeling this is indeed where they are soft. Just look at the team they lost to: Indy twice, New Orleans, Houston. Aside from Houston all big throwing offenses

No, Ward burned us quite a few times in the game. Our secondary is pretty suspect at times, as is to be expected when there is a rookie safety in the game. Mathis is a very good CB, but isn't playing to his pro bowl caliber of last year, that being said he is quite a ball hawk. Brian Williams is a pretty underated CB and can be pretty physical at times. Otherwise Sammy Knight is in the other free safety spot and has been pretty solid all year. Terry Cousin is our biggest liability when he is in the game, and is likely to get burnt in this game.

Ward had 100 + yards on 10 catches

Holmes was covered by Mathis and got shut down. The 37 yard TD was just a msised tackle by Mathis as soon as Holmes caught it.

No not exactly Ward had 4 catches for 80 yards in the first half

That will teach me for watching the game at the bar with 12 other people, drinking beer and eating a hamburger.

I would assume that most of those catches came in the 2nd half??
